Off Topic / Re: Least Favorite School Subject
« on: January 31, 2019, 02:09:27 AM »
I've put 'other' - Latin and Music, could not get on with these at all. Maybe it was the expectations behind the subjects rather than the actual subjects as I love language and have a good sense of rhythm. I'm from a very musical family so a bit of pressure there though I have always been keener on visual art. At our school we were streamed from the start and those 'expected' to try for top academic universities (Oxford/Cambridge in UK) had to take Latin. I still am a bit bitter that I had to give up subjects I really liked to take these two.

Didn't mind PE but seemed to get away with avoiding it a lot, can only really remember swimming, but I was good at that :),. Maybe the teachers just gave up as I was a bit of a rebel, and because I was getting a lot of exercise outside school with horse-riding and cycling everywhere my parents didn't care much either.

Most of the teachers were great, especially a lovely inspiring English language teacher and a super pair of biology teachers. I liked the chemistry teacher too, she had a sense of humour about detentions. If pupils were caught wearing nail varnish they would be sent to the chemistry lab to be handed acetone to wipe it off with - I was one of the worst offenders, and it got to become a bit of a game between how long I could keep the day's polish on before being spotted by a teacher :)

Pony Corral / Re: What are your pony goals for 2019?

Sort out some riser shelves for my display cabinet. Which will take a bit of thought as it's a corner cabinet and I have some ideas on grouping ponies so it might be a bespoke job.

Pony-wise I now have most of the affordable ones on my wish-list - so lucky finds of ponies in need of tlc and saving-up for grails are likely to be the pony-hunting methods this year (which could be either The Best Fun or a bit frustrating :) )

Here's wishing you all the best of pony luck this coming year.

I have the darker pink regular Cotton Candy.

I didn't set out to get her - she arrived in a lot, washed-up very pretty and I like her much much more than I thought I would.

I think it is AMAZING that the Arena has such diversity and collaboration amongst its members.  The other social media platforms, they are designed to work with your phone, you take photos and people have instant impressions of them.  It's not a long-lasting feeling.  And if you are trying to use the platform as a reference tool, it can be very difficult!

There are people who collect everything.  There are people who only collect one generation, or just one type of pony, or just an army of ONE pony.  There are even people who collect certain merchandise pieces like erasers or plushies.  There are people who really love the corporate history and manufacturing processes.  There are customizers and artists and sculptors.

And yes, Cheers to the mods and admin who keep this place working!  :D

This is what is so nice - the sheer diversity, and inspiration to enjoy your ponies in so many different ways.

Having so much information about restoration and history in one place is fabulous.

Pony Corral / Re: What pony would you like to see in 'reverse colors'?
« on: December 23, 2018, 07:46:43 AM »
What about Seashell?  A seagreen pony with a lavender mane and tail would be very pretty and unique.

She would be gorgeous.

I'd like a reverse Daddy Sweet Celebrations - body in that deep sea-green with lighter hair

Pony Corral / Re: Who Did You Get in 2018 and Your Favorites?
« on: December 23, 2018, 02:56:25 AM »
I've had a busy pony year and lots have joined our not-quite-so-little-now herd :)

Out of all the new ponies I do have some favourites - a handsome Lightning to join my other beloved Mountain Boys, the most adorable Lemondrop and my first dip into Nirvanas thanks to some Italians (I think that others may join them in the future ;) )!
Also two more Poseys with no hair who have both now had a makeover and live with 5 other sisters (all different, either variations or rehairs).

Off Topic / Re: How do you wrap your gifts?
« on: December 15, 2018, 12:38:47 PM »
I love wrapping gifts, it's part of the fun.

Most of the wrapping materials we use are re-cycled. I save bubble-wrap and tissue-paper - they are great for disguising the shape of things. Also hang onto any ribbon, pretty paper or little decorative things that can be tied on to decorate the parcel.

Have her.
Love the wingers, they have such pretty little faces, though they look quite mischievous.

Flurry and Glow are my two favourites.

In case it's still of interest to you, I have checked and compared two different italian Blossoms I have here with the Dollyhair colors Wisteria, Amethyst, Brambleberry, Twilight and Hyacinth and felt a 100% match only with Wisteria. This said, one of my Blossoms has a light blue body color while the other one is darker with her body color being purple. The first one is faded I guess, and her hair is a tiniest bit lighter as well. The 100% match would be achieved for the darker, probably unfaded one.

Thank you so much for the information Tiara.

I haven't been able to get hold of Wisteria hair so for now I have rehaired her with Kiwi hair 'Dahlia' so at least she's got some hair, and can go on display with some friends.

I will keep my eyes open for Wisteria hair, and she can always have a further make-over if I can find it (her hair isn't glued in)

I've taken some pictures, she still looks a bit wild-haired as I want the hair to settle a bit before styling it.

So how do I get them to show here (computer-illiterate type instructions please;) )

I have this trouble with upgrades - I get an upgraded one, then can't bear to part with the first pony.
This is how I end up with multiples of the same pony - though of course they are not the 'same' pony because they have their own character :)

Selling ponies on obtaining upgrades is a deep taboo in our household too. And even if I wanted to do it, my sister would probably disown me xD.

I have this problem sometimes with wanting to sell something and then second guessing myself. But I have a bigger problem with motivation to do selling in general because of all the things that I need to do to get the pony in my room to a new home somewhere.

The last one I sold was actually the upgrade! (yep, go figure!!)
When it came to 'shove' I couldn't let the old one go as I worried about her being baited, even though she's thoroughly charming if a little worn.

I get even more concerned if it's a sought-after pony, which sounds daft as they are more likely to go to someone who will love them - I suppose because it would be more tragic if they were not.

Pony Corral / Re: What do you love about the 35th anniversary ponies?
« on: November 25, 2018, 01:42:17 AM »
I have Minty, Snuzzle and Blossom - they are just so pretty and have such gentle faces. The colours are vibrant without being too much. It was lovely actually picking them up in the shop and carrying them home.
Mine are still in their boxes as the packaging is gorgeous. They are displayed like that and they make me smile every time I look at them.

Pony Corral / Re: Issues with 35th Anniversary Ponies

Taffeta, I agree.

It was lovely to get some of the CP ponies, in boxes, with accessories (mine are on display still in their boxes because they look so attractive - as far as I know they are fine).

The original 80s ponies were never the cheapest toys in the shop - I think the equivalent prices today would probably be more than $10.
With regard to the price point, I know it's not a direct comparison, but I'd venture that it is difficult to find an original pony with accessories that's near mint for $10, at least here in the UK - there is likely to be some flaw.  And it's for each of us to decide what we can live with and what we can't (I don't mind the odd flaw, it gives the pony character, and some of my favourites certainly have some flaws!) ETA - thinking of my own collection here, a near-mint Butterscotch with accs, a near-mint Windy without, and a Minty who's near-mint but who needed a darn good clean, were all more than $10 each

I'm pleased that the retros are about - hope the uni/peg set comes here soon, I'd like some of them :)

I have the Italian, Eva.
Mine is pretty beaten-up, she's faded almost to white and has the tip of her horn missing but she's one of my very favourites.
