Making wavy hair
« on: March 01, 2012, 06:15:30 PM »
I've seen the tutorials on how to do curls, but nothing for wavy hair. I've seen some really nice customs that do it and was wondering how you guys managed. Any suggestions?

I've done waves by braiding the hair, you could try that.

i have done gentle waves on 2 customs.
I just braid the hair in small sections, and wet it with warm/hot water. let it dry a day or two (make sure its totally dry) then take out the braids.

I just make curls, then when they are dry and set, I wash them out with cold water and let them dry again. It makes for loose curly, wavy, hair.

I asked this question on my Poison Ivy custom thread. The suggestion I went with was to put her entire mane into twists like when people do the little buns with pins in on finished pony up-do's, then I poured boiling water on her hairs, and then turned the hairdryer on her. Then i left her on a radiator for a night, and the next day she had wavy hairs when I removed all the pins and untangled the twists. However, it's crazy wavy. Worked perfectly for Ivy's wild red hair, but it might be a bit OTT for something designed to be a bit more gentle. I have a pic of her on my phone if you'd like to see I can upload it later. Wavy but kind of wiggly and really wild!

If it is crazy wavy, and you want to tone it down a bit, rinsing it with cold water and letting it dry again will help relax the curl some.

Please be careful when using a blow dryer on pony hair. It melts really easy and a blow dryer can easily turn soft pony hair brittle and melted.

I made lots of very tight but small waves in my Kimono by plaiting her hair into lots of small, thin plaits while it was wet.
Left her a couple of days to dry naturally, removed the bands and carefully ran my fingers though the plaits to loosen them.

Ta da, waves :p

I recommend braiding wet hair in sections and then leave it to dry a few days. ;)

Please be careful when using a blow dryer on pony hair. It melts really easy and a blow dryer can easily turn soft pony hair brittle and melted.

It depends on the hair you use. Dollyhair is able to be baked in the oven so using a hair dryer on it should be just fine. :)

Braiding makes the best waves I think.  Using several smaller braids all over make tighter smaller waves, larger brids make larger waves and so on.  Then pour boiling water over the braids and let dry.  Unbind the braids and style as desired.

These were made from 3 smaller braids

i did this one with a crimp iron. no heat. just wet the hair and rubber band the iron around the hair

also i did this one. wet hair then simply place small rubber bands in her hair where you want it to wave. let it dry, take the bands out then comb the hair.
