Oh!  You should totally add "Swamp Cooler" to the list. I see you mentioned them. These are used a lot in some of the mid west and southern states and I am curious how many people actually might have one.

Sure, why not? I didn't think of that because I usually get blank stares when I mention swamp coolers. :P

Lol, I'm from Córdoba, in the south of Spain. We are going through 40-45 º celsius in summer, but still it can be bearable with a fan... If you are used to it

I know we in Britain don't get the temperatures some of you get in the USA but even so I HATE the summer! Anything over 72F and I get VERY tetchy

For that reason we have a portable a/c unit that lives upstairs - leave the bedroom door open and it cools the whole house (just), and it's lovely and cool at bedtime too - wouldn't be without it now :)

I live in south-central US. I've seen it get up to 85 during the middle of winter. Needless to say, we have a central air-conditioning system.

I really feel like I need a window-unit, too, though. My room gets the short end of the stick, and even with our air-conditioner set to 72 degrees it's usually so warm in my room during the summer that I can't even comfortably keep a sheet over me while sleeping.

I'm the type who needs a sheet over me when I sleep... I feel nervous if I don't.

I'm almost always cold, & I can't stand the heat, so it's a good job I'm a Brit.
Even so, the last two Julys here have been brutal. I usually open a window, that works a charm. Unless the neighbour's dog is out making a racket, then I'll choose to suffer through it.
Humid nights are the worst.  :hot:

after summer starts ( July 5th for those wondering. ;) ) it can get pretty warm here though prettymuch nowhere has AC as a common commodity. We have a window AC and now a Portable AC. When I lived in FL everywhere had Central Air...I kind of miss it? but it's nice that it's not *necessary*
the other good thing about WA v MN is that when I want to hang outside, I don't get eaten alive by mosquitoes as soon as I walk outside. it takes a few more minutes for that...

It's been over 100F nearly everyday this season. We have central air but we only run it at night and then keep the house closed up. It stays cooler inside than outside but it still gets hot in the house, especially around this time of day - 4-6PM. My room gets the worst of it because the sun hits two of my walls. Sometimes I have to go somewhere else until it sets because it's unbearable sitting in here :hot:

There are ceiling and floor fans in every room and all the windows have sun blocker shades or curtains. Plus we have a huge dehumidifier that runs constantly and that helps keep it cooler and much less sticky. I think the last time the windows were opened was in February

It's just waaaaay too hot here.

eta: I just checked and our *low* for tonight is 92° :drunk:
