A beauty! I love her hair colors and the way her name, symbol, and pose all work together. ^.^

Unfortunately, I don't remember which re-release that was, and with Kagri's site lost to time, I suppose I'll never know again. ^^;

the Re-releases Encyclopedia? It's on Wayback Machine:
http://web.archive.org/web/20110903093145/http://mlp.imagesofher.com/

I dunno how many of the pages got archived, though. Doesn't look like Gem Blossom's did >_< But some of them are there.

Yeah, you can still see the bare bones of what the site used to be, but next to nothing was saved database-wise. Like a lovely reference book with nothing but blank pages between its covers. Such a pity. :(

One thing I forgot to mention is that Gem Blossom has an interesting variant with naturally curly hair and darker, purpler symbol paint.

I have only one Crystal Lace, but at least three Gem Blossoms. Gem Blossom was one of those ponies that seemed to pop up in every "plus bonus ponies!!" promo that year, so even though I never purposefully bought any G3 more than once, I ended up with several of her through happenstance. I think I even ended up keeping her normal, single release MIB because there was no point in having yet another loose one around.

Wait, they were sold together? That is super bizarre! Were they sold in the same box or separate boxes taped together like some G3s were?

They weren't only sold together! ;) At the time, Walmart was sort of notorious for cello-wrapping single ponies together into "bonus" packs to move stock faster, so I wouldn't be surprised if something along those lines happened to Crystal Lace and Gem Blossom. (Or really any pony and Gem Blossom! The girl got around!) I definitely bought mine separately though, so your Jewel Blossom probably isn't missing her long-lost set mate. :)

I simply voted my personal favorites in the poll: Gingerbread, Galaxy, and Masquerade, and flipped a coin between Fizzy and Sweet Stuff for 4th place. :P

Thinking realistically, if Basic Fun follows their established pattern, we would get two ponies in an earth mold and two in a pegasus mold, with two unicorns to follow in a second wave. Galaxy and Fizzy for the unicorns is the obvious choice from both adult/nostalgia and kid/shelf-appeal standpoints, and only Masquerade and Sweet Pop share a mold for the pegasi so that's a no-brainer. For the earth ponies, it could be Gingerbread and Sky Rocket based on their colors, but Sweet Stuff is also a strong contender.

Honestly, I would love to see all nine, especially without the discoloration issues of the originals!

I do have her common version tucked away somewhere, but I'm so used to seeing my custom "Red Velvet" Cupcake that now it feels kind of weird to view her fuzzy, aqua-haired form. ^^; (Honestly though, who wants fur in their cupcakes?! :yucky:)

Here's a picture of her and Truly, celebrating the true meaning of Valentine's Day

This was fun to look through, thanks Rhaegar!

Seems like putting G3 (...and Super Soakers??) films in cinemas was even a bigger deal than I'd initially thought. All the industry hype makes me wonder even more why the project just sort of fizzled out.

This official site concept is pretty cool. I wish the real website had had even half those features! :P (Although I do remember that awful "girly bedroom" image map interface was used for a bit.) I would've loved "deep bio files" and "behind the scenes" sketches. Interesting that they were still using the term "Rump Patterns" here -- this was so early in production that the term "cutie marks" hadn't been invented yet!

I thought this little tidbit was very interesting. It seems to imply that early in development the hoof hearts/magnets would somehow interact with something to reveal the pony's name? A prescient version of the G4 zap codes? Maybe that little extra heart would've done more than we thought. :P

I love Twinkle Twirl with a bath poof for a body. Truly glorious. The poofs we ended up getting don't even compare. Also, keen eyed observers will spot Minty with her prototype green hair on the cover of A Pony's Tale. :)

This is really interesting to me. I really liked seeing how it'd display in the stores, with just its own section? Man I wish I could go back in time and visit lol. Thanks for sharing!

Alas, you would have to go back in time and then into a parallel universe, because the G3s never got a big merch section all to themselves like that. ^^; Not in US stores anyway. I don't think Hasbro put out enough G3 swag to fill a display that size even if they'd had one.

Would you Canadian folks like some of the 2nd set rainbows to be picked up? I think they're starting to warm the shelves over where I am. It's sad to hear no one is stocking them.

Are the Earth ponies easy to find still? I still need Applejack and co. I got the rainbows from US Amazon but thank you so much for offering. I know we all really appreciate it when we can't get things here.

The Earth ponies are being phased out at my Targets as well -- their shelf spot is taken up by the G3s -- but I'm also happy to keep an eye out on behalf of our international neighbours. :) I can ship up to three MIB retros for US$17.50, although I think there's a postage increase due later this month which might impact that. I don't have time to post much on the board these days, but my PMs are always open. ;)

Yay! Your sitting ponies look so cute together! We vintage ladies recognize the benefit of having a nice restful sit. ;)

Pony Corral / Re: How as anyone seen this G1 ad before?

It's an ad from Canadian Tire, a widespread department store. Despite the name, they sell a lot more things than just automotive equipment. ;)

Ah, lovely detective work... Thank you for sharing!

Interesting!  I have a US catalog that has some of the same sets / pictures (like the Summer Wing ponies) but not all of them (mine definitely doesn't have the ponywear picture).

The ponywear picture is from previous year's toy fair photoshoot, the one that gave us the vanishing Pony Friends girls. That alien landscape with the magenta sky and blue ground is a dead giveaway.

As far as I can tell, the rest of the pictures and much of the copy are identical to the Hasbro-US catalogue. Aside from a generous sprinkling of 'u's, only the twins' names are vastly improved changed.

It's a pity that the Big Brothers aren't here. There's a funny little mistake in in the American version, and I would have been interested to see what the Australian localizers did with it! Did Australia have the Mountain Boys, or were they just boy-less that year?

The TAF prototypes in the ad look really different to the actual releases. So cool!

Aren't they lovely? I never get tired of seeing Nightglider and Bonnie Bonnets in their prototype colors.

I have Baby Bouncy and that's enough for me. ;)

I don't understand why so many so-soft ponies have symbols related to the tropics or summertime. Bouncy, Shady, Scrumptious, Angel, Paradise... Who wants a thick fur coat in hot weather?? :hot:
