« on: May 23, 2013, 05:07:34 AM »
I get tailrust, marker spots and faded/rubbed cutimarks - but can someone explain cancer? How to make sure they dont have it?

Anything else to look for?

Cancer is a light brown spot, usually with a dark brown dot in the center; doesn't come off with regular cleaning.
The following is another link for condition reference. :o)

Age marks or cancer can be anything from an under the surface faded bruise to a deep brown central dot [sometimes surrounded by a faded out bruise and sometimes not]. Unfortunately they take a couple of different forms, the only thing similar about them is that they cannot be cured. The brown staining can be faded sometimes but ultimately the integrity of the plastic has started to breakdown so it will come back with time. So when looking for it you want to look for brown spots with dark cores and lighter edges or under the surface bruises.

The plastic has bromide based flame retardant chemicals added to it during production - these break down over time and they cause the plastic to brown/yellow. You see it with most plastics - plastic yellowing or tanning over time is common.
