The official Japanese Twitter account for Sylvanian Families announced two pony characters: Mother Serafina Manely and her daughter, Sally. (Names are in Katakana still so they may change for English... I'm guessing it will be spelled "Manely" because they're horses!) They're white with long, blonde manes, and Serafina has a purple strip in her forelock.
A salon is being released with Sally, and Serafina gets a smaller accessory set. No word from Sylvanian UK yet, and the US (Calico Critters) doesn't even have a Twitter account! So who knows when they'll be released outside of Japan or how much they'll cost. Converting Yen to USD, Serafina should be around $20 which is typical for accessory sets like this, but the salon with Sally is around $65!

What are your thoughts? I wish they looked more like ponies. They look like dogs to me, and the fact that Epoch keeps giving hoofed animals paws doesn't help. There are some pictures on the Japanese site of them from behind but their tails aren't visible. This also feels like the most trendy SF thing out right now, since SF tries to go for a more neutral, timeless aesthetic. This is very pastel, and I say "trendy" because the salon comes with a unicorn horn flower crown headband! Google "unicorn craft" and you get tons and tons and tons of images of the same looking "closed-eyes long eyelashes unicorn wearing a flower crown" type thing. Not necessarily a complaint, but it seems a bit out of character for SF.
The exterior of the salon itself is a bit lacking too in my opinion. The other Sylvanian stores have more paint and detail to them while this one is solid white with no details other than the stickers. :( The other stores are around $30-40 while this one is over $60... the amount of accessories seems about the same too, but the difference is that the salon is two-story while the others are only single-story.
There aren't any family sets announced yet and I hope they'll come out with more horses. I probably won't get the salon but I might try to get Serafina.
EDIT: I forgot to mention... "Osharena Pony"... they may not be Takaras, but hey! :silly:

oh wow, how unexpected :O Horses have been a frequently-requested species for years now, but I didn't think they'd do them since they'd previously made non-morphic Sylvanian ponies (*I* don't have a problem with having horse people and regular horses, but yeah). These are very trendy, definitely the most blatent case of jumping on a bandwagon I've seen from SFs! I'm not a fan of the increasing modernization of SFs (I prefer the timeless Beatrix Potter-esque aesthetic rather than the more 'kawaii' aesthetic, plastic facade buildings, etc) but the figures themselves are pretty cute. So much hair!!
The paws rather than hooves doesn't bother me since I think all of the hooved animal SFs have 'paws', I just see them as hands. Hooved animals are always tough to anthropomorphize.
I imagine it'll take a year for them to make it over here, that seems to be the standard these days. Not sure how the US release schedule is like though.

I'm incredibly tempted to pay int'l shipping for these...I feel like USA Calico Critters is just really boring/run of the mill bunnies, squirrels, bunnies...
I'd just get the mom, but I do wish they had some sort of hoof hands.

But I think it's their fingers that makes me --- eeehhh. It's not the thumbs, it's the other digits.. because takara have hands that can hold things, but they don't bother me...

Wow, they are super cute and those play sets rock - so detailed! But they don't look like ponies to me at all :lol: I'm not sure which feature pushes them out of being pony-like, for me. The paw-hands? I think it's something about the face but I can't put my finger on it.

For me, it's the nostrils. They're not very visible, the muzzle ends up looking like a mass of... mass. :lol: They would look better with pointier ears too.

They look like rabbits to me. Cute, but I never would have guessed they were ponies if I weren't told that they were.

Lol I saw a photo of them this morning with no caption, and I was just sitting there for the longest time, scratching my head and trying to work out what species of animal they were meant to be. I am honestly so surprised that they're meant to be horses omg. They look more like some kind of rodent haha

They look horsey to me. :shrug: Guess I'm used to Epoch's over-stylization.
I think it might have helped if they were a darker colour, I think their nostril details are getting lost because they're so light-coloured.
It's Serafina's hair stripe that I'm not sure about... everything else about them is growing on me but that hair stripe... it just seems so out of place somehow :P

i... actually kind of love it. not enough to get a bunch of plastic bits i don't want, but if they ever released another figure/family set in horsier colors i'm not sure i would be able to resist.

I would consider the hedgehog family to have brushable hair.. and the other calico critter horses had hair (but they were horse animals, and not families)

Bella Chestnut and Giselle Silver (ooh, Giselle, love that name).
Still not sure how I feel about these. They look weirdly squished/short to me.. something about the proportions bugs me, idk why. I hope they make full families for these girls.
Love the colours they picked though (Bella has the same hair colour as me :silly:) and their outfits are just darling! Like their clothes much better than the other ponies', I'm not that keen on the shiny silky clothes they've been giving SFs lately. I dunno if I'll pick them up but it's nice to see something new.
