I wonder if because the ponies are widely available we get a bit more picky about which one we choose to join our collection, whereas the rarer ones we accept whatever we can find?
For a long time I didn't want Cotton Candy, she was 'too pink' and 'too obvious'. Then of course one day I saw a dark pink one who looked fabulous to me and I had to get her - glad I waited for that particular pony.

Maybe wait for a retro Tickle to get on amazon to do an alt Twilight...? Her colour is pretty close
She’s on Amazon.uk Tickle but it will take her 1 to 3 weeks to come
If you are looking for a Tickle in the UK try Fivelittlediamonds (they have a website and are also on ebay) Ordered one end of last week and she arrived this morning. She's lovely - strong bright colours. I can only compare her with the original Italian pony as she's the only one I have - Repro-gal's body is more 'saturated' lilac, and she's slightly bigger - but my 80s gal may be faded/greyed out

My Sunburst came to me second-hand. His mane was on top of his streak when he arrived.
He has a pen mark on his neck (only way I could afford him). When he had a spa day I tried training his mane over the other way to hide the mark and put the streak on top. It has stayed over very easily and naturally so perhaps he can wear it both ways round?

My sister has a whole box of rescue ponies in the loft. She used to pick up every really abused pony she could find at carboot sales to rescue them. She's still a bit that way - at ponycon last year I had to talk her out of buying a bald Posey and I couldn't talk her out of adopting a brown Blossom...
I'm the same - except I doubt I'd have been talked out of a bald Posey - I've got a big gang of them that I've rehaired in all sorts of colours (she looks great with rainbow hair btw ). They look rather fab together, like a chorus line dancing along a shelf. It's great that there are so many people that will restore and love these ponies Post Merge: May 03, 2019, 01:25:17 AM Some could say, allowing a minimum wage hourly rate against how long it took to restore would work out more expensive than buying a mint pony, but here's the thing: it only costs me money for the physical materials, the time "spent" is my leisure time - which is a choice to do something arty, crafty and fun, just for li'l me, not to run a business
This is just it. The fun of doing them up isn't measured in monetary value. It's the same for so many other things in life too - making your own clothes, doing up a house, growing plants from seeds.....

Some of my absolute favourites are my 'flawed' ones - it gives them such character. I like restoring and working out how to make them the best they can be, even if it just restyling hair to hide a mark. So yes, I'll settle for a flawed pony if it's the 'right one'. It's the same for a grail or a common pony - if I like her, or she needs a good home, then home she comes (or he as I like my boys ). I've found that if I do upgrade then I want to keep the original too - which is why I have so many multiples of favourite ponies, they all look a bit different to each other.

I think they experimented but went back to their sure fire seller, rather than trying to compete. And probably, there are enough established 'horse mould' toys even now that they wouldn't see it as profitable.
I'd guess this. and plenty suitable for customising whether that be fantasy horses or models of 'real-life' horses. MLP have always had a different and iconic shape.

I'd give her a new or donor tail. The thing with the sitting ponies is that they still look good with quite short tails so perhaps a donor tail that is a bit frizzy at the ends and would be OK to shorten. I have a Bubbles and a Seashell who came without tails (and in a bit of a mess) - cleaned them up and made them both new rainbow tails - Bubbles has a shortened tail from a beat-up rainbow pony, Seashell has one made up from small hanks of different colours of left-over re-hair hair, a 'Bitza' tail . Both ponies look lovely on display.

Depends upon the child. My ponies are nearly all G1s and the ones on display are in cabinets so they look as if they are 'look but don't touch' in the same way as my collections of vintage china and horse figurines do.
I've got a few ponies in the workshop that they can have fun with as long as that doesn't include damaging them further - but I'm happy to play along to keep up some supervision.
Same as others I'd be more concerned about effects of old plastic on kids - but this is a country household with mud and animals etc hence we have very strict rules about washing hands after playing so that would be discussed with the parents.

I'm in the UK too and would be interested in the seaponies.
Clipper, could you announce here or message about availability please?
Taffeta, it costs more, but TPB have a postage option to send parcels to home addresses rather than pick-ups. I had one sent this way.

Yikes! maybe I shouldn't have done a headcount............ G1 - headcount of 201, but that includes multiples of some ponies and alternative rehairs. There's 'only' 145 different 'official' ponies from a few different countries G2 - 3 G3 - a lonesome Lulabelle G4 - none, unless a Fluttershy nightlight counts then there's 3 Anniversary ponies and 12 HQG1C as well Actually I'm rather glad I've started an inventory as I really need to make notes of what ponies have had what repairs, what colours I used for rehair and other info.

I like her, she's such a gentle looking pony. Mine is very white but has faded pink bows which I think make her look even more adorable.

I've got a Ringlets with a broken mechanism too!! Mine came with a haircut and frizzy hair as well, so her mane only reaches her fetlocks.
What I did (though it may no be the right thing to do) was to remove the mechanism in the neck, take her tail out, restore it and then replace like a regular pony tail using small cable ties instead of a washer. Then replaced the rest of the mechanism parts as a plug in her neck so the head sort of clips on. She displays fine like that but if she was going to be moved about I would put a dab of craft glue on the neck. I found a bit of iridescent ribbon that reflects the colours of her hair so she wears that around her neck - she's still a very pretty pony.

He did flub a few words, like when he said a playset was the Satan Slipper Sweet Shoppe.
Now wouldn't that be a typo-and-a-half if that was actually on the box!!!!!!

Boy ponies in the trotting pose. In dark rich jewel colours like ruby, amethyst, emerald, sapphire with paler hair with bright stripes (I love the boys' hair stripes). Representing nature/elements like ocean (deep sea-green), night sky (deep blue), mountains (deep purple), firelight (deep crimson)
