Which streaming services do you use?

I always get Netflix sending me emails telling me what is popular in my area (by which they mean the UK as a whole, apparently).

But I honestly don't care. I like to watch a trailer and read a synopsis and then decide for myself if I like a show. I think I have a contrary personality with this, but when I have a lot of people around me telling me I *must* watch something, I kind of turn off. I figure if it's that interesting, I'll watch it later when I can do so on my own terms. But I want to make that decision myself. :/

It's not like when someone makes a casual recommendation, but when a whole lot of people start saying its a 'must watch', or it's pushed on me like one on a streaming service or whatever.

I also don't keep watching something if I don't like the first episode or two. I know some people who will battle through and watch the whole of something that's popular because it's popular and they can talk about it with people. But when I was a kid, I'd watch the popular shows that I liked and ignore the others. And I'm still kind of like that.

So I like when Netflix tells me there's a new show that is in the same vein as shows I've liked before. But I hate when they tell me what the rest of the UK is watching. It's nice for the rest of the UK, but...I'll make up my own mind.

yeah for me it's more when a show is really hyped up in the media. then i feel defiant about not watching it. and also it just feels like a chore. i guess if i got paid to watch and comment on shows it would be different. but i have a lot of trouble sitting still and focusing on a show. i don't want to spend that little time watching something just because i feel obligated. that's why i prefer to just put on stuff i've seen and then if i need to get up and do something in another room i don't miss anything.

a thoughtful recommendation from a friend who knows me well is a little different.

I struggle with finding older shows. I LOVE 'Law & Order' from the 90's but no one streams it! I have it on DVD but its not the same.

Squid Game is really good if you like gore and depressing storylines.

Squid Games is not my thing just based on what I've heard about it. 

I also don't pay much attention to what Netflix says is the most popular show but sometimes it catches my eye if there's something on there that I just watched or am planning to watch. 

I agree that recommendations from a friend are different than something that's suggested just because it's popular or it's what should be watched.

I did try to watch 13 Reasons Why at one point but stopped about halfway through because I just couldn't bring myself to keep watching.

We mostly use Netflix, Amazon, and Disney+

Disney has so much of the old throwback stuff I used to watch as a kid, while Amazon has a bit of everything (I think Buffy is still on Prime) and Netflix is... Netflix lol. Currently enjoying the Witcher on Netflix.
