Wings and things
« on: December 05, 2021, 04:12:24 AM »
I have a question if I may.  I just bought my first blank HQG1C big brother.  I am trying to decide if I want to practice dyeing and make a yellow earth pony or make a white pegasus.

A few months ago I found a Basic Fun Starshine at a thrift store.  I want to take an exacto knife and cut off her wings, sand the edges where I cut (if pony plastic can be sanded?) and glue them to the big brother.

Has anyone done a wing transplant before?  Will it work or do you think it will look bad?  In my head I'm thinking it will resemble the way the wings of Starshine/Firefly mold look stuck on, instead of part of the pony like other pagasus molds.

Here are the two characters I'm trying to decide between:

I have seen people do that before. Pony plastic can be sanded, I've done it for bite marks. You can also smooth the plastic with 100% acetone though it takes some elbow grease.

You're so good at sculpting too, you could always make a better connection using polymer clay or Apoxie Sculpt if you have that. But then you'd need to paint match and matching white is tough. It can be done though. Another option is to just sculpt the wings, or make a mold out of the originals.

In either case, I don't think it will look bad :) Big Brothers have more space on the sides to work with so I'm sure you can get them to look good.

I like both of your characters :D I think you should go for the pegasus though. You can do it! :cheer:

I just ordered my hair from shimmerlocks.  I hope I can see this thru and get good results and not get frustrated and give up!
