Favorite Year for G1?

Which year of G1 ponies do you think was the best?

In my opinion, I think Year 5 (86-87) was G1's strongest. Lots of iconic lines were introduced, like the Big Brothers, Princesses, Twice As Fancy's, and Newborn Twins, and they also continued the sets from the previous year, like So Softs, Twinkle Eyes, and Flutters, with great new ponies like Mimic, Quackers, and Twilight.

As a UK person I have to say 1987. Partly because it was a big year for me Ponywise, partly because of all the gorgeous Ponies we had in the UK, partly because that's the year my fave German Ponies came out (I have the leaflet to prove it) & because of some of the gorgeous US Ponies available around that year too.

I would say year four, mostly because that was probably about the height of my pony fan years.

I love classic ponies, so years 2 and 3 have a lot of sentimental value to me (and those are the ponies I collect the most of), but year 4 is when I really got into ponies as a kid, so that also has nostalgic value to me. Honestly, this was hard to choose - so many great ponies came out every year!

Agree entirely. Princesses! Mountain boys! Newborn twins! Paradise Estate!
And so on.

I really love the early unicorns and pegasus ponies, but the UK didn't get them, so for me those years don't connect to those ponies. It would be 1987-8 in particular, to include the party ponies too. I adored those.

Year 2 is my favorite.  I love every pony from that year.  There are a lot of other ponies I adore, but that's the only year I want every pony from.

As for my answer, it's a hard choice. G1 really picks up for me starting at year 4 where they started doing what I felt were more interesting gimmicks, something I really enjoy about G1. But it's hard to choose my favorite year from G4 onwards, they're all very solid IMO. Lots of fun horses.

Gotta go with year 4 since it was the year that went along with the original cartoon, which I am a big fan of. The twinkle eyes and flutter ponies are some of my favorite sets.

I don't know? Every year has at least two sets i like,  and one set I'm not crazy about.

I feel like US Years 7-10 are underrated here! We only got Glow 'n Shows, Tropicals, Rainbow Curls, Sparkles, Candy Canes, and Merry Go Rounds among other great sets in the final years of G1. The sets from this time are not only quite monetarily valuable on average, but genuinely fun and pretty gimmicks in my opinion.
