What are these
« on: June 10, 2021, 03:21:34 PM »
I have owned these g3 figures of rainbow dash and pinkie pie for really long time. I don’t really know much about them. They were something someone gave to me and i don’t know if these figures had a name or where they were sold or their prices. I tried looking at the my little wiki for information and I couldn’t find anything. https://www.deviantart.com/ponyprincess2021/art/My-little-pony-g3-figures-882239255

I think these are cake toppers, but I can't seem to find them very well. I'll keep searching.

[Edit] Strawberryreef seems to classify these as Cake Toppers, indeed. (Scroll down to Pinkie Pie, there are two cake toppers in the same pose as yours and your Rainbow Dash. https://strawberryreef.com/Index/Name/p.html )

[Edit 2] The sitting one seems to come from the cake decorating brand "Decopac" and dating from 2004.

I feel like the rainbow dash is probably made from somewhere else because of how different the style of pinkie pie looks next to her.

Aw, it's such a shame. :c But it's okay. I did all I could. I hope you'll find someone knowing more about her. ^^

Maybe the rainbow dash isn’t a cake topper but I could be wrong because I’m having a hard time looking for them. For some reason I don’t get many results when looking up cake toppers.

I *believe* the standing Rainbow Dash was part of a set of three party favors/cake toppers.  I love party favors, and buy them whenever I see them.  I recall a set of three like that I got at Kmart back when G3 was new.  From what I remember, what you see is what you get.  It’s just a plastic pony.  I think the other two ponies were Sunny Daze and Pinkie Pie, but I could be wrong.  They were packaged on a card in a sort of diagonal line. I think they were somewhere around $3-$4 for the set.  A quick search yielded no results sadly, but I’ll keep looking.  I still have them I’m sure, but they’re probably buried with the rest of my G3 merch.

Those are cake toppers. I have three of them in the standing pose: Rainbow Dash, Sunny Daze and Pinkie Pie. These came from decorated birthday cakes that you would buy from a bakery or from a bakery inside of grocery stores. The three I have were all on the same cake from the early 2000's. The figures are completely unmarked.

Since I have a summer birthday (July), we often bought my birthday cake as it would be too hot to make one (often over 100F in middle of July and my parents do not have AC), so I used to look at the store sample cake decorating books in the grocery store bakery quite a lot. The sitting figures also were cake decorations from another style cake design, but I do not have any of those.

Cake toppers can be difficult to identify sometimes because of how they are intended to be sold as part of a finished product (the cake). Typically these are products that are sold to bakeries, so they are not made/packaged for public sale and often just come in plain bags as a set with little to no markings. If you were to go into a store that specialized in cake decorating products and supplies you would find the cartoon character figures (and other items also) packaged in very plain bags. This is because bakeries are buying them in large amounts and the packaging is just for shipping purposes. The cake designs/figurines typically change every few years and the products are switched out.
