WIP Color Mistake?

I'm wondering if I made a mistake making this pony such a bold red, when my first instinct was dark violet? I only did one layer, in case I didn't like it. What do you guys think? Would she look better purple or red?

Are you planning to keep her existing hair? If so I think purple may go better with the pink stripe. Or a a more purply-red. Will look forward to seeing it when it's finished.

Her hair has been dyed purple/green/blue if that helps? The purple mellowed to a lighter shade unfortunately.
