Soap in the Fountain
« on: September 24, 2020, 12:35:23 PM »
Hi,

This is a pic of the fountain at one of the universities in my city after someone put soap in it.  Pic isn't mine.  I got it from Facebook.

IIRC that's not a good thing.

https://www.kiro7.com/news/trending-now/florida-police-warn-pouring-dish-soap-into-30k-fountain-isn-t-a-prank-it-s-a-felony/974630370/

I didn't see in the article any explanation for why it's harmful to the fountain.  Do the bubbles cause issues with the pump?  It could be hazardous to animals that try to drink out of it once the side door down, but I doubt that is what they are considering problematic.

Someone actually did the same thing to our big fountain downtown last night.... So I'm curious

I believe it's potentially bad for either the filter or pump, and then the cost of draining it, cleaning it, and refilling it.

Also, the internet leads me to believe this is copy cat stuff from a tiktok video.

How much soap do you need for something like that?

Around 2 gallons. The fountain will stay soapy for at least a week.

There’s a fountain by my friends neighbourhood entrance and someone almost always does this! But it’s supposedly difficult to clean out though, according to the people who do the maintenance there. Funny to see though!
This. Sentence. Is. False! Dontthinkaboutitdontthinkaboutit.
