What should I do? (Rainbow Brite related topic)
« on: March 29, 2020, 03:45:47 AM »
Hi everyone!
I got thoses as a gift, clearly for the three horses as I do not collect (or even love) dolls.

But since I got them, I'm unsure of what to do.
My first plan was to open the horses so I can play with and to sell the dolls.

But in fact I don't know values on these, as I'm quite stranger of Rainbow Brite universe. (I know thoses aren't the originals).
So would you consider a crime to part the lot? Or even opening the boxes?
What would you do? Any advices?

Ooooooo!! I've never seen those before!!! Of course, I'd keep them all myself, but I do collect dolls! :P I can't help you with value having never even seen them. Is Starlight a reboot of Rainbow Brite?

No it's not a reboot it's me who was wrong about the name of the brand
And those are supposed to be a reedition of the dolls and their horses, but it's more new dolls and new horses

Don't ever feel obligated to keep things you don't like.

There are people out there who like dolls, and don't like horses.

I remember these. I was just getting back in to original Rainbow Brite about the time these came out but I couldn't get in to them.

You shouldn't feel bad if you don't love the dolls. Sell the dolls and keep the horses.:)

Oh I don't feel like I should love them, my question is more if they are rare or sough after, will I not harm any collector byt splitting lot and opening boxes?
But thanks for your replies, you are right that I'm free to do as I want

People split up sets to sell all the time, so by all means go for it. That Starbrite is pretty.

The price of Rainbow Brite stuff in general is pretty down right now-  those are the Rainbow Brite 25th Anniversary "re-edition" dolls and ponies.  I thought they were rather cute.  I think the ponies occasionally go for like $50?  They don't come up much anymore for sale.

The outfits are perfect for Blythe FYI

They seems hard to find yes, I really wanted the ponies but the persons who gifted them to me just found this lot.
But I'm not specially here to make money, more to make room

Unlike the horses which are pretty cute- the dolls are rather poor- with no joints and weird faces. I don't think they were ever particularly expensive.  Even as a RBB fan I got them and stripped them immediately for their cute clothes...

Oh I always thought these were really sought after and expensive? Like people didn't buy a lot or something cuz I remember when I wanted to buy them online they cost an arm and a leg (although I was using eBay so who knows). Like The horses barely went up but even when they were in bad condition they were a lot of money.

That was a couple years ago, however. And like I said it was on eBay so I have no idea about now.
I'd say do whatever you want, however maybe keep the boxes around just in case? I don't want to spread around misinformation but this was just my general experience.

Thanks for your reply.
For what I know, the vintage ones are rare and really expensive to get.
But for thoses, who are reedition (like the 35th ponies by basic fun) I really don't know their sough after rate.

I've opened the ponies, very carefully (the boxes are still okay then) and the dolls are still boxed for the moment.

I have Rainbow Brite and Starlite, bought off ebay. Rainbow Brite I took out of the box. I left the pony in the box, and I'm not that keen on it. They just don't look very well made, I don't think. Like cheap and hollow looking, and the proportions are a bit weird. Do they stand well out of the box?

If you do a search on US ebay for both current and sold listings there's not much on there, and they're not selling for a lot, but the blue and pink dolls and horses are much scarcer than Rainbow Brite and Starlite.

It's your stuff, you should get what you want from it. If you are happy to leave it in the box, you like the look of it that way, leave it in the box. If you like to display it, take it out of the box.
