What made me smile today was getting to see an impromptu firework display while I washed the dishes and jammed to Fourth Moon (it's an established habit that I need music while cleaning the kitchen.) It was a very good combination!

What made me smile today was that my tin whistle has finally turned up, and I've already learned to play a tune on it! Off to a good start! :D

Received some vintage (unused new, old stock)  nibs off of ebay and managed to use them as replacements on some new fountain pens that I bought recently...

I now have two pens with flexible nibs that allow me to do pretty and swirly writing! Even better, these vintage nibs have heart-shaped vent holes and are just too cute!!

Been having fun practising my Christmas tag greetings!!

I try to not get involved in politics overseas, but from an overseas perspective, I feel like the whole world just took a breath. I feel like the US is about to lead the way in some awesome things going forward, which is where the US should be.

My happy thought for today - been watching the BBC adaptation of Malory Towers on Iplayer.
Amazed it's taken them so many years to make one, honestly.
MT was hugely influential for me when I was eight or nine. I think I was gifted the first book - maybe it was a Sunday School christmas book? - and I loved them (and St Clares, and then ended up reading Elinor Brent Dyer's Chalet School. I started writing stories about Magic Star, paradise and Cherries Jubilee at pony boarding school around the same time xD.

So yeah they've made some changes, added some twists to the story, but mostly I am ok with the things they've done. It's sad they've lost Mlle Dupont and some of the wider cast - Betty hardly exists - but mostly it feels about right. They've done a good job with the diversity aspect as well, by simply just having diversity on view, rather than trying to add characters or make a thing about it. Which makes it feel really natural and inclusive for the 21st century (even though it's still set after the war.)

And what really made me happy was seeing some kids' comments on it, saying how much they loved it and wanted a new season. I'm glad there's a new generation of kids enjoying a new version of MT so many years after I did, and even more years after it was written :)

I hope there is a second series after the pandemic. MT has 6 stories. I'm sure they can do a lot with that if they choose.

I’ve never had a heated blanket before. Costco had them cheap, so I decided to take a gamble, and I’m in love with it! It’s so cozy, it kind of feels like when you take a blanket out of the dryer, but with this it stays warm. Only problem is it makes me sleepy.

Nothing quite like a warm, cosy blanket!

Constant rain today so we all stayed indoors; I made pizza dough last week and had frozen a few batches so I took one out and let it defrost and "prove". My kid then had fun making her own pizza! (no cheese, 'cos she is fussy) but lots of freshly-sieved tomato to make a simple sauce!
Yummy!

I've spent the last 4 days helping my mom clean out the storage room.  I had some boxes of things in there as well, which I was able to go through and I found my "Adventures in Ponyland" game with the poster on the back.  It was something that I bought at a yard sale years and years ago so I never had Blue Ribbon or any of the game cards and I thought I'd lost it in one of our many moves (the perils of being a military brat).  So now I have it and can put it in a safe place so I can enjoy the lovely G1 artwork on both sides.  :)
