One of my friends/neighbours/ex-coworkers asked if I could water her plants while she's off on holliday and I said yes because I've done it before and it's not a gruesome task, it's quite enjoyable to go over there and look at her plants. She came sunday evening and dropped off her keys, keeping a good poker face I must say.. because this evening I got to her apartment and on her dining table were two potted plants and a note that said they were for me . She wrote that she had planted one of them for me early this spring and she had made research to make sure they weren't poisonous for cats.. I am not used to people doing this for me, rather the opposite. I am so often forgotten and overlooked that I broke down in tears.. I'm still smiling. Such a sweet thing

Recently I have been catching up with a lot of people

This weekend a former flatmate of mine from my MA time is coming to London from the US (sadly without her cat, who is a gorgeous bundle of fluff and I keep threatening to steal him) for a summer course and we're hopefully going to hang out for the first time in years. Unfortunately my other close friend from that time is stuck in Mumbai working but I have this feeling we're going to harass her via the internet anyway.

My US friend is also hoping to come to the UK again to do a PhD soon. I won't be in London when she is, unfortunately, but when I told her that, she said, "it's just a train away though, right? Rather than a plane?" Which is true...? xD.

I also found out that although I won't graduate this year (because my university only has one ceremony each year, in July, and the deadline is stupidly early for PhD students to be eligible), it seems possible that my good friend whose research interests and mine overlap is pretty much in the same position. I thought she'd probably make this year's ceremony but there's an issue that's delayed her. While that sucks, she's got it sorted now, and it means there's a good likelihood we might graduate together next year. I hope so - it will be fun as she's not in London now and I miss her

This horse! I have never seen such a beautiful horse before. With the golden evening light and the trees and everything, it truly was like a touch of heaven.

On a smile aspect...finally managed to send my Indian friend's birthday present off today It's late, but hey, that's kind of how we roll (she sent mine in May I think? I'm a Feb baby. She's a June baby. It's July xD). Better late than never, right??

Also, my American friend is in town Although it's far too hot for either of us to want to do anything right now -.-

This wonderful weather!!
It was just in time for my birthday, which was yesterday. Even though I missed my furbaby terribly, it was the best one yet. Had a great day with my mom, and my bf cooked me a wonderful steak dinner.

Got my phd formally signed in.

And finally got to hang out with my former flatmate. We also videochatted with our other friend who is working in Mumbai.

So tired now, as last night was so hot it was hard to sleep,  and the trains are a mess... but worth it anyway.

Today is the first normal day after the heatwave. I'm enjoying this so much! The curtains are open, we are drinking coffee on the couch, we can eat normal food, we are wearing normal clothes, there's no noisy fan on the table, no excessive showering, no feeling of crisis... YES!

Same. I got home from work yesterday and could enjoy a hot cup of tea! Marvelous!


Today marks the first day of the last week as acting store manager. After working fulltime, including four weekends, and being responsible for everything I am soo looking forward to go down in hours and have someone else make all the decisions. I want to be off work when I'm off work and not glued to the phone if something happens. Next Sunday I'm gonna celebrate with a yummy but expensive ice cream.
