Best way of selling a blind bag collection....
« on: August 02, 2016, 04:41:50 PM »
I've decided to part with my blind bag collection, as I have something I am saving for. I haven't bought any of the recent releases. Mine are the earlier releases.

I also have some of the ones from wave 2 (I think) that were never released in the US. Would it be best to list them individually or in lots? Or do the Chinese sellers list so much of them that I won't make much? They've been sitting on my floor in a box not displayed for like.....2 years now. I figured I may as well get rid of them. Or should I just list all of them in one big lot? I'm not familiar with listing them. With eBay fees and Paypal fees, I want to get the most I can. Or do you think I'd be best off trying the Arena first?

I listed a bunch of blind bags individually, for $2 to $4, and did sell most of them.  (I was doing Buy It Nows.)  It took a while, but I got much more than I would have selling them as a group.

Make sure to say you are taking pictures of the ACTUAL FIGURE the buyer will receive; that will give you an advantage over the China sellers, who use stock images.  Also try to take really good, close up pictures.

I wouldn't worry about china for wave 2; their inventory tends to draw from the most recent few waves. From time to time they find something in the back of an office or whatever, so there was one nice time I got a few Feathermays for $3 each and turned them around for a good bit more, but mostly your wave 2s should be about as rare as ever they were.

Wave 2 was very hard to find in Europe too, I would advise to try over here first individually to check the interest. Other waves are good for selling in a lot.

Thank you guys for your help! :)  I'll go with individual, in this case. I have a bunch so it's gonna take me forever to list them all. I don't even remember their names LOL.

Does anyone know a site that lists them all?  I think strawberry reef does but I can't access it at work.

That site is immensely helpful! Thank you so much!

I just counted my blind bag ponies......I have 126 auctions to list. I'm scared.

You know, I was looking at lots versus individual and I am wondering if I should just sell mine in one lot except for my wave 2's. Someone sold a lot for over $200 and selling individually with all the fees and such, you think the lot may be better. Not trying to question the advice I am getting.

Maybe I'm just trying to find an excuse to list it in a lot because I'm really lazy and don't want to list 126 auctions, LOL.

Selling in a lot is definitely less time consuming!  :)  Just make sure you put it up for the very minimum price you'd be willing to sell at.  Because I've noticed that it's really hard to get multiple bidders driving up the price these days.  Basically, a lot of times an auction will sell for its starting bid--even if the starting bid is way low.

Or you could just do a lot as a BIN.  The nice thing about that is you can have it up for an entire month like that.

I'm kind of in a rush to sell these. There is zero interest in my lot. For 125 blind bags, all early releases and some Euro, is $120 starting price with no reserve too much? No watchers or anything.

I know I'm being impatient. It could take a month to sell these or more. I was just hoping to get them gone fast since I saw some other lots have sold recently for even more.

I personally think thats the right decision DazzleKitty. The volume of these that are now in collector hands (and those popping up second hand due to fast moving fads) not to mention the sheer number available via ebay and Chinese sites, makes very few blind bags very hard to find any more.* I think also the postage for one can put people off and make them feel expensive.

If you dont do one big lot, I would certainly stick with lots of reasonable quantities (10-20) in order to make postage feel worth while to your buyer.

*Exception of many of those wave 2 of course.

You could also just take a picture of the ones you have, post them here, and offer choice for $5. After the good ones are gone, knock the price down. At the end, just sell the lot for cheap- you'll know that whatever is left isn't the good stuff, so you could even get away with donating them at that point.

It's a little harder than ebay, but there are no fees.
Thanks so much to Calico_Star for her beautiful work on my Avatar!

I'm in the process of trying to sell my collection of 200 bbs. Tried listing them individually here first and had no interest whatsoever. Posted them on eBay in lots by wave. Have a few watchers but no bids yet. Think I might just hang on to them if none of the lots sell. :/
