Lost MLP Cartoon

At the end of the VHS version of Rescue from Midnight Castle, there's an advertisement for a future (future at the time anyway) My Little Pony cartoon centered around the rainbow ponies. Does anyone know why that cartoon was never produced? It's a mystery that has bugged me since I rented Rescue from Midnight Castle back in the 90's.

No known reason. Unfortunately its just one of those MLP mysteries. I have read and heard lots of speculation over the years but its no doubt probably just down to budget and Hasbro deciding that a regular series was better for the line than ongoing specials. By the time the series hit the air the rainbow ponies were off shelves and therefore there was little point in advertising a product which was no longer available.

I think that it just refers to Catrina, and they recycled the animation from the Rainbow Pony commercial since it was cheap and convenient. The animation is the same as the rare commercial, and it only mentions that there is a new adventure. If it was true that they were planning one, perhaps it morphed into Ember's Dream? I'm just skeptical that they ever had a Rainbow Pony episode in the making, since recycling animation is something that I could see happening and I am not aware of other clues.

I read somewhere that this supposed Rainbow Ponies-oriented cartoon was just a rumor, that the animation was meant to be used for commercials only. It really is a mystery.

If anything, this might have to do, with that one mysterious poster (the one with some boy riding on winged Spike) that showed up on Arena sometime back:

Given how Hasbro's pretty bad at keeping track of their properties' history, I guess we'll never know what really was going on behind the closed doors at both this company and Sunbow Productions, or the real reasons for this special's cancellation.

Whoa, this is interesting! The MLP franchise really does have a lot of hidden tidbits and secrets to it. And quite a few mysteries it seems.
