Styling Italian Hair...
« on: December 05, 2013, 10:44:27 AM »
Hi all!

I was wondering about styling the tails of Italian ponies - does it affect their value, if you don't use any damaging products or heat in the process?

I know myself when I see a regular pony all styled up on evil bay that I can't resist them - but I figure maybe for slightly rarer ponies like Italians (though they're only barely Nirvana given how common they are) maybe it would affect their value/generally be not recommended to tamper with them in this way?

Just wondering what the general decorum is with it! Kinda wanna style my girls tails, but won't if people think it's bold.

I have styled my Italians without issue- including flat ironing them and given them ringlet curls so I don't see why not unless you wanted to cut there hair- which is pretty much a no-no on any pony.

Oh lord no I would never cut hair!! I wouldn't do anything irreversible or damaging to the hair. Thanks for replying, I feel a lot better about doing it now!

well, i thought styling them is part of thier purpose as a toy? ;)
better leave it if they have original curls or such, but if they look rather "wild", why not? go for it!

True, but I don't think of them as toys, I think of them as collectible items and the general rule is don't tamper - better safe than sorry, so I thought I'd ask! No original curls, just lovely long Italian hair so I'm going to practise my curling on my regular ponies (haven't done it in a long time) and then have a bash at prettying up those girls over the weekend!

If you are styling them in such a way that whatever you do can be washed out or restyled back to the original, then I would not worry at all. :) At the end of the day if you did wish to sell them you could simply restore their hair to original!

Yes, ponies in original condition have more value than one which has been restyled. But thats the same no matter whether nirvana or regular; why a Sugarberry with gorgeous original curl often goes for even a little more money than a Sugarberry with her hair brushed all out.

If they are in your collection and you are not styling them to a point they could not be restored, then I say go for whatever makes you happy!

Thanks Hathorcat! It's only a few curls in their tails, they'll fall out anyway after a while and can easily be restored to their original smoothness :)

You can easily style Italian pony hair :)

I tend to just wrap the tail round the leg and that's it!
