to order "hair" or not

Well I'm thinking of ordering something that could be used as hair. The total will be 42$ for 6 hanks/colors but I don't know how many ponies I will be able to use it on. So I'm having a hard time decided. If I order hair through another well known site the same 42$ cost I would only get 5 hanks/colors, but I will know I can get 5 ponies out of that order.

How do you decided on buying something you really really want for pony making goodness.

Well, are you ordering standard MLP hanks from DH? If so, count one bag as one adult G1 pony...

From other sites, like MLC - I think you might be able to almost get 2 ponies out of the hanks that are thicker and cost about 2x more...

I love rehairing, and once I ordered my first hanks I was hooked so I think you should do it!!

Speaking for all crafting and not just pony since I have a bad habit of seeing something and then I feel like I really want to learn how to do it.  I usually wait till payday and go for it.  Otherwise the inspiration of the alternative media will gnaw at my mind.

With Dollyhair and Retrodolls US,  one hank rehairs one pony.  So unless you only got 5 hanks of hair, you can definitely get more than 5 ponies' worth out of it.

I believe Aednatia is talking about a top secret alternative media here. ^^ Post states debating whether or not to buy it as she isn't sure how many ponies she can us it on.

If she bought from a normal supplier $42 = about 5 ponies worth of hair
If she experiments with this new idea $42= ? worth of ponies rehaired

So I believe she is asking do I go with a sure thing or do I roll the dice on this experiment. (correct me if i am wrong) But I do see what ya'll are saying that is pretty steep for only 5 ponies.

Yes you are correct.. I literally counted stands of hair in a plug and then plug rows to debate. For the 6 colors I can definitely get 4 ponies with a little left over and 5 ponies if I don't lose a single strand of hair in the process (not possible). So even though I'm getting more colors I'm getting less hair. But I really want the hair. So I'm waiting till Saturday for some sales money to come in.
