Restoring Seashell - need some help/advice please!
« on: February 27, 2013, 07:56:15 PM »
So, I started cleaning up Seashell today but I couldn't get these blue marks off her. I tried Magic Eraser and Aceton, but nothing. I think it might be 20 year old marker. Is there anything I can do about it? Would sun-fading help? Help?

Yikes! She looks like a corpse. I hope someone knows how to fix her.

I think she might be a lost cause   I'm pretty sure it's marker on her, as my initial is written on the bottom and it's the same colour. It's too bad - her symbols, eyes and blaze are all perfect! :(

You should try sunfading. It might work. And after all, you dont have anything to lose, she looks horrible :D

Cover everything but the blue marks and pop her in a sunny window.

Just keep an eye on her, and rotate often. She should even out eventually.

Yeah, true, got nothing to lose by sunfading her. Guess I'll put her out on the balcony with Majesty & Moondancer. It's going to take forever to sunfade them, seeing as it's winter in Alberta!  Poor thing - am planning on rehairing her, so I hope I can get the blue out, or at least fade it a little. It's silly but I really don't want to bait one of my childhood ponies - I'd feel so guilty

I agree that sunlight is probably your best bet. Try to keep us updated though! I'd love to see how she turns out!

If she doesn't recover, you can easily customize her.

I totally understand, childhood ponies are special.  :) My childhood baby cuddles is a bait, but I will not replace her with a new one, just because she is so special to me. I could never customize her either.

But yeah, keep us updated!

First, I'd sunfade until the stains are gone. She fades easily and has a lot of fading already so after you've got her to a more even tone you can dip dye her purple again. You may have to remove her mane.  but without any hair in a dye bath and she should come out at the end a nicer even purple, pop her tail back (after rust removal) and give her new locks for her mane.

Hmm hadn't thought of dying her...how do you protect symbols/eyes when dying?

Thanks FF!  Wow, it doesn't affect eye paint or symbols? I guess the pain repels it...weird! Yeah, i think I'll try that if i can get the marker to fade. She's out on the balcony now, so we'll see how long it takes.
