Help, which is the plumsweet variant
« on: December 31, 2012, 07:33:08 PM »
Hi everyone,

I have two Plumsweets, One has very pink hair, then light pink, followed by red. The other has a purplish first hair color then light pink and then red.
I'd really like to find out which is more common.

I hope these photos aren't too blurry.

According to this old post, the purplish hair was the new variant in colour. I can't say which one would be more common (if the wiki was up, the information might be there...) But if other people have the purplish colour, it might have replaced the red and become more common?

Technically the purple-pink is the variant because the original release was the red-pink. :)

With the sheer numbers of these ponies which were produced its not surprising there was the odd change. It will probably have been as simple as the factory running out of one colour or more likely ordering/receiving a different shade of hair for this pony. Production is no where near as strict re colours as it used to be for earlier generations - you can see that in quality control alone. However the factories probably have a little leeway if they need to dial up or down a few shades in production.

It's kind of hard to answer these rarity/value type of questions while G4 is still in production.

Taobao orders are being churned out for "variant" and "alternate" colors on a consistent basis right now.  Until they stop making "ponies-to-order", we can't really get a good idea of how many color variations exist and how many there are of them, or how much they are worth.

Wait, Taobao will now make you a mutant pony to order instead of it being a random run off the belt? Oh joy, bang goes more collecting fun out of that line.

It's difficult to tell anything with the G4s at this stage, I'm wary to open anything or tag anything as a variation because it might just be their quality control going out of whack!

That old post is probably mine, though it doesn't seem to want to load for me right now so I can't check.

I preordered a case of this wave of ponies from BBTS and received it weeks before anyone found them in stores. All the ponies in that box had the pink version (the one on the right). The purple version I found later after she turned up in stores. So my assumption is/was that the pink version was the original one. However, I don't think we can say for sure. There might not even be an "original" version--As mentioned by others, it's possible that different batches made around the same time used different hair colors, just like how accessories for these sets often vary in color.
Thanks to Calico Star for my siggy! <3 (deleted cause photobucket)

Yup the post I linked to is yours Ren Ren. There have been a few threads here and elsewhere on Plumsweet and to date everyone purchased the red-pink hair version first before coming across the purple-pink hair version.

@LBS - these arent Taobao variants though - as per the OP's post they are store bought versions of the same pony :)

Light pink and then the darker pink? Wow...a store purchased version. Do you have a picture that would be amazing to see.
