Glitter and sealant
« on: April 08, 2012, 09:11:02 AM »
The custom that I'm working on right now uses a lot of glitter.  Like... A LOT.

I glued it onto the pony with glossy Mod Podge, and it doesn't seem to flake off very much.  However, I still have more stuff to do to the pony and I don't want it to shed too much glitter during handling.  I've got some matte spray on sealer, which still leaves things with a bit of shine (I used it on Ms. Pac-Pony) but not super glossy like sealing them with Mod Podge.

Anyone have any other suggestions?

When I made Mab, I added glitter at the very end.. I deliberately did not want to seal the glitter on her, as it loses some of it's sparkle in my opnion.. So I just saved it all till the very end, then I did a layer of gloss, then glitter sprinkled, then another layer of gloss, then glitter sprinkled on top. When she was all dry, I tapped her off outside to get most of the loose glitter off.

This gal's got both glitter and flocking, and I can't do much with her once I put the flocking on as I'll have no place to hold on to her - it's all glitter or flocking at that point, so all the sealing has to be done before that.  I just worry about the brush pulling glitter off.

I think if you do the glitter in layers then, it should be ok even if the brush pulls some off. I would just mix glitter into the gloss or sealer, and paint it on in a few layers. I have done that before for pony eyes and it worked out well.
