The usual blotches on German Starshine?
« on: January 20, 2012, 07:44:50 PM »
I recently bought this lovely little German Starshine, but I'm afraid she has the usually occuring blotches, mainly throughout the back.
She's not actually this gray, it's just the lighting.

But I wonder, what is the best method to trying to rewhiten her? I'm trying acne cream at the moment on the bottom of her hoof as a test spot, but would sunfading have better effects? Has anyone tried Clorox Bleach Pen..? I've used Oxy Clean for light whitening, but I really don't think it would help her too much..
Thanks to anyone who can shed some light on this! I hope there's some hope for her. :(

Yeah she was fine inside, as in no major mold and the weird blotchy spots didn't seem to affect the inside. No tail rust either, but her washer was a little bit rusty and there were some flakes inside. Gonna do the usual ziptie washer replacement.
Cleaned her out with some Dawn and now the inside is okay. I'm actually trying a bleach pen right now all over but it looks like she'll have to be sunfaded. The acne cream didn't do anything and this only did a little bit on the bottom of her hooves when I tested it. >_<

the acne cream will yellow her :( i tried some on the hoof of my german starshine, remozit will also yellow her.

you could try simple sunfading ~ mummy her mane/tail and symbols up and put her on a sunny window sill, i know that helped my german starshine :)

It does look a little like regrind, odd.  I think sunfading her is your best bet.

With those sort of marks, I'm  not sure there is anything that can be done, but I think sunfading would be worth a shot.

I've heard it's just a common thing with this specific pony. Acne cream didn't yellow her, but it also did absolutely nothing anywhere. :( I took out her tail and used some foil, but am gonna go buy painter's tape instead since it'll allow me to shape around her symbol better. Thanks for the tips, I'll stick to trying this and let you guys know how it works out in a week or so.  One of the windows in this room is in absolute DIRECT sunlight every single day, so I hope it goes well.  :good:

EDIT: Also, she DOES have a bit of regrind in really really small patches, but it's bright pink. It doesn't bother me much, but I do hope I can fix these blotches. ):

EDIT2: Alright here she is ready for the window! Used a bunch of little pieces of tape for the eyes/symbol so I didn't end up covering more than needed. Here's to hoping she has beautiful results. >_<

Oh wow, thank you! Glad to know there's hope for my girl. She doesn't seem to have cancer (thought there is one questionable spot in the front >_>), but those weird blotches are actually starting to look a little lighter, and it's only been two or three days of full sun. Your Starshine looks wonderful now, even with the cancer. Lets hope it the sun keeps hanging around for a while.
How long did it take for you to get her that much whiter?

I was just thinking the same! It's so sunny for 2 days and then there's a bunch of dark gloomy days in a row.. Like right now. Poor Starshine is gonna take forever. :(

With the weather forecast being pretty terrible for a while, I will definitely take you up on that offer. Might send along baby Quackers, if that's okay with you. Sent you a PM.  ^.^
