Wool roving?
« on: January 15, 2012, 06:28:48 PM »
Hey guys! I have a huge pack of wool roving left over from making dread falls, and it's just begging me to do something with it. I know I've seen a Perfume Puff pony rerooted with what looked like some type of wool, but I was just wondering if anyone knew more specifically how it's done/if any tutorials existed (or if it's even feasible)? I checked Google and didn't find much except using it for Reborn dolls. :/

Apologies in advance if this has been asked before and I'm just being thick and missing it.  ^.^

I have done this twice, so yes, it's possible. Both of my attempts have been done with G3 McPonies.

Dye the roving first if you're going to. Once dry, tug off a section that's as long as twice your hair length (just like you would with regular nylon hair) though it'll be very wide. Slowly pull sections off that're as wide as you need them to be. Find the middle of your section and twist it so it fits in your rehairing needle better. Rehair!

I've done a couple of Red Roses customs using Alpaca Roving which is very similar to wool.
I used a rehairing tool and it was super easy. Securing the tail was a bit tricky but I managed. ;)

Oh. The tail. I did mine on Gusty just like a regular pony --- One ziptie in the middle, one a little further down. Didn't slip out. Of course, I wouldn't reccomend swinging her around over your head that way, as the fibers are likely to slip and fall apart, but... XD

And thanks for the compliments. :3 But I really like Pop's! She looks fantastic!

Ah, it was your Red Roses custom I was thinking about Pop! I love her. :)

@kiwisquirtbottle - Hahaha! I will definitely avoid swinging her around. :p
