I have been wanting to show these girls off for
months - the dove was done the week I received my partner's form!
Eviecorn couldn't have assigned me a more perfect partner. Skeen's form made two references to Stevie Nicks, who is definitely on my list of music to take if I'm stuck on an island somewhere. I mean, I spent much of high school wearing flowy skirts, and was crazy excited at the Hard Rock Cafe when I was 16 and we were seated under her boots and tambourine. I figured that I'd use lyrics from a song as inspiration for the pony, and went with some of her more well-known stuff, choosing "Rhiannon" and "Edge of Seventeen".
So... on to the pony! For Rhiannon, I drew inspiration from a Fleetwood Mac song, specifically the line "She is like a cat in the dark and then she is the darkness." I wanted darkness, and moody, and night.

loginRhiannon was a LOT of experimentation on my part. She started as Twilight Sparkle and was painted black. Then I airbrushed blue gradients on her legs and face. Then I decided that I didn't like the blue, so I repainted her black again, and then added purple deep gradients to her legs and face. Later that week, I discovered that I could add stuff to make my paint pearly, and so I painted the black parts pearly black. At the same time, I discovered the sheer awesomeness of interference paints, and sponged some of that over the purple gradients on her legs. There's also some highlighting her eyes and lashes.

The moon is highlighted with a little bit of silver glitter, and she's got a smattering of Swarovsky crystals highlighting some metallic stars on either side of her.

loginRhiannon's hair was also a big under taking for me, being a true blend of four shades of Nylon: Bougainvillea, Kiss of Death, Hematite, and Black Magic. There was a lot of combing involved, and there was a lot of hair and swearing in the workshop, but this is without question my new favorite blend of shades EVER. Even my husband, who abhors purple, loved it. I've also never tried to do anything with pins before, so it was fun to try and get the spirals to lay down the way that I wanted them to, and then try and replicate the same thing a couple more times for the next set.

I remembered that I'd gotten a Fairy Tails bird in a lot that I picked up early last spring, and she'd been kicking around my bedroom for a few months. I'd actually finished her the week after I was assigned my partner.

loginShe was given some fancy plumage in the form of new Nylon hair, getting about half a hank each of Moonlight and Starlight. Since she didn't come with a stand, I sent Skeen something to put her in, repurposing a votive candle holder as a nest.
So there you have it, folks. I'm so glad Skeen liked her!
