Sugar and spice and all things nice!

:toasty:

Being a native of Southwestern Arizona, I had my fair share of spicy Mexican food. Mmmm... boy! I'd probably answer with "medium."

I had to give up nightshades, however, when I started my autoimmune protocol elimination diet. I haven't tried reintroducing nightshades yet, as they generally give people the most problems who've been on the same diet. Even worse than wheat.  I broke out into hive for 6 hours one day, when a small drip of my daughter's chili beans got into my food. ... Anyway!

But I loved green chilies. I couldn't handle the jalapenos that well, I admit. I still remember vividly when my younger cousin offered me some spicy peanuts many many years ago.

Made my eyes water like no one's business!  It was quite the amusing joke and I still giggle at it to this day.

I have not had much exposure to Mexican food (apart from the supermarket Tex-Mex fajita/guac/salsa kits) - but here in the UK we love our curries!

I opt for a medium heat because I actually want to *taste* my food - my Dad usually goes for something hotter like a vindaloo but even he is not crazy enough to order a phaal! They are way too hot.

There is a special dish from our local take-away called their chicken-tikka-peshwari - it has ground almonds in the sweet/savoury sauce so you get a true sugar and spice hit - absolutely delicious with the chargrilled chicken and a side of pilau rice and aloo-gobi (spiced potatoes and cauli)!

Oh I am hungry - is it Friday yet?
(Friday night is curry night!)

I can't do spicy, and generally won't order anything that way.

Sometimes I don't mind a little spice, like mild hot sauce or spicy chicken sandwiches, but normally it's not my thing.

I like medium spice most of the time; the one true way to my heart is a good saag aloo - just enough heat to make a statement but it's offset really nicely with the mint. That said, I made some vegetable enchiladas a while back that had far too much spicy stuff thrown in and it was kind of like eating lava but they were really good! :D

I usually opt for medium spicy food. I enjoy a bit of heat, but like Glitterball said, I want to be able to taste the food. If all I can taste is my tongue burning (slight exaggeration), that's not enjoyable.

I used to like my food insanely hot, but unfortunately acid reflux has become an issue and now I limit my acidic foods and drinks.

Let me put it this way, I find ketchup spicy. Not some sort of exotic spiced ketchup either, just normal ketchup without something milder to even it out with.

The strange thing is before her allergy problems started my mom loved spicy things and likes adding the ginger candies she can have to her food (she also loves sour things and I hate sour); we think I take after my paternal grandmother, appearently she had a low tolerance for these things too. On the other hand I love sweet things (which my dad loved and my mom hates), have a strangely high tolerance for bitter (One time I was given a cup of plain coffee and finished half of it before being offered some dairy or sugar), and I can taste water

Medium!

For a couple examples, one of Lays' "Do Us a Flavor" chips this year is "Fried Green Tomato". It has a nice little kick to it, that'll leave a spicy sensation in your mouth for a little bit, maybe like a minute or two, and it's not very overwhelming. My nose runned a little bit while eating them but not a whole lot.

Another example, there used to be a "three cheese jalapeno" flavor of boxed Kraft mac and cheese. According to their site they claim they still have it as of 11 months ago, but I don't buy it, I haven't seen it in stores for a couple years now. In any case, it's also what I would call "medium" heat. Leaves a burning sensation for a short period of time, makes your nose run a little.

"Hot" name brand salsas (Tostitos, Pace) I would also put under the "medium" category, rather than the salsa they actually call "medium".

So that's my personal favorite spicy level. Sometimes I'll have something more spicy but I find it much harder to eat an entire serving of something much spicier. There's a chain of barbecue restaurants here in the US called Famous Dave's and they have a spicy mac and cheese you can order as a side, it has little pieces of jalapeno peppers as well as corn in it. It's very delicious, but spicy to wear I can never seem to finish the entire tiny bowl of it.

People always call me insane. I eat so many peppers and hotsauce. Food just taste better with it. If I don't have any sort of hot, I don't feel like eating.

I went with Not At All. Sometimes, depending on the dish and what is causing the heat, I can stand Very Mild, but it's rare (like a little garlic on pasta). I like flavour, but there are other things to give flavour besides black pepper and hot%spicy.

Hot! I like eye-watering hot too but in snacks, not entire meals.   :P

I live with a Sri Lankan, so spicy is a way of life here! Not that I'm a huge fan of spicy, but I've learnt to tolerate it in small doses. She's been away for 7 weeks, so I've been living without chilli or curry for all that time, but she comes back next week, so I'll probably die when we next share a meal - she's been at home in Sri Lanka, so she hasn't been accustomed to cooking for us spice sooks!

I cannot do spicy food. Really, the only food I really like is sweet or bland food. I don't know what you all are talking about. Hospital food is okay! Dad however...he has gots of pure titanium and shark teeth and a nuke. Tough stuff. But he likes the spice so it's not all heat. All heat is no good. You gotta have flavour! Mom has Crohn's disease, and she cannot handle spicy at all. It's a common saying when we get Indian food to put the loo roll in the freezer. Ever feel like a missile or rocket? Mom knows! Oh yeah! Pro tip: put the toilet paper roll in the freezer. What goes in must come out.
