Backdrops for photos, what do you favor?
« on: March 14, 2017, 09:41:56 AM »
Outdoor photos are always lovely, but sometimes the weather just isn't agreeable to it. So what else do you like using as backdrops for your pony photos? Know some use cardstock or scrapbooking paper. For those of you who do are there certain ones you find work better (brand or otherwise)? Aware that anything can be become a backdrop. :) What are your favorite things to use for your pony pictures?

I'm a scrapbook paper girl! Around here, Hobby Lobby has an excellent selection. Michael's and Joanns have so-so sections but Michael's supply has literally not changed at all in years. I only buy single pages because the big paper books/sets have so many repeats. Whenever I buy I wait for sales for use 50% off coupons on a single piece of paper. Super cheap but it works for me haha.

I prefer the very thin (like printer paper) ones for general use. They're much easier to keep in place for a seamless curved background and you can stack white printer paper behind them if you need a bit more thickness. I also have a lot of the thicker glitter covered paper. I love it, especially for outdoor or natural light photos! You can get some really cool effects. But since its thicker it can be a pain to keep curved for a seamless background if that's your goal, especially if you don't want to have the paper permanently curved. Holographic scrapbook paper is probably what I'd recommend the least because its a paint (due to being holographic and basically a mirror) but the ones I've found have been thin so they make a great curved surface. They're a LOT of fun but they can be really annoying!

Sometimes I keep the inserts from Pony Packaging.  I have a picture on the most recent Mr. Universe post with Troubleshoes in the jungle.  The jungle backgrounds came out of Styling Size Daring Do boxes.

I've found nature calenders are a good choice. We almost never get snow here and I don't live by the beach.

I also favor printed cloth.

When I read the title I was going to say outdoors, but then I read the first post. :P

I don't take a lot of pony pictures anymore, but when I did, I liked to use my bed. The duvet creates a nice "cloud" effect. ^.^

So many wonderful ideas. :D

I never would have thought of the nature calendars. Such a fun idea. :)

I just use the top of my cabinet and the wall behind it. I have played with light effects in the past to create an evening twilight or winters day. I want to paint some backdrops based on G1 but I have some customs to finish first :)
