Update 11/27 - Hotel Info:
The Inside Scoop: Where to Stay for Pony Fair 2019
We are so very happy to share with you that Pony Fair will be back in 2019! We've been hard at work negotiating a great room block rate and special perks for our attendees.

Where should I stay?

The 2019 Pony Fair will take place on July 27th and 28th at the Double Tree Tampa Airport Hotel in Tampa, Florida.

This year's official hotel is the Double Tree Tampa Airport Hotel. We ask that attendees consider staying at the host hotel if possible to help us fill our contracted room block.

Does The Pony Fair offer a discounted group rate?

Yes. The Pony Fair has negotiated a discounted rate and added amenities for Fair attendees. In addition to a complimentary airport shuttle, and a shuttle that take guests within a 2 mile radius, we have also negotiated breakfast vouchers for those staying on property

How can I make RESERVATIONS?

Attendees may use the following link to make room reservations:

www.TampaDoubleTree.com  using the code LPF

Attendees may also call 1-800-514-3956 to make reservations. Be sure to tell them that you are part of the MY LITTLE PONY Fair group (group code: LPF).

Update 11/02 - A message from Summer:

"This year’s 2019 Pony Fair will be held on July 27th and 28th in Tampa, Florida. We are excited that our event can continue for another year thanks to the continued support of our community. We love that we can come together and share our continued love of all things Pony.

While, we’d love to bring Pony Fair to everyone’s backyard, it isn’t possible. Given our attendance numbers last year, the cost of transporting supplies, and the fact that our primary organizer is expecting a little one this spring, it makes sense financially and otherwise to keep the Fair close in Florida in 2019.

We think you will be very happy with what our 2019 venue has to offer. In addition to free shuttles to and from the Tampa airport as well as a free shuttle that travels up to 2 miles to tons of dining and shopping options, we’ve also negotiated breakfast vouchers for those staying on property and FREE wifi in the convention areas for attendees. The convention space is very large with a built in stage in the main hall as well as offering large spaces for panels, presentations, and events.

The programming for the event is slated to again have a collector centric focus and sprinkle in activities and panels that will be of interest to collectors of girl toy lines of the 80s, 90s and beyond with Ponies being at the core.

We are also pleased to offer a great group room block rate to attendees with details on the venue to be announced later this week. Please note that while the Tampa airport is the closest airport to the venue, the St. Pete-Clearwater airport is also a close option for those planning of flying in for Pony Fair. They typically have inexpensive Allegiant flights from many airports.

Please consider that the organizers of Pony Fair put in countless hours to present this event. Try to be respectful with your comments. Every year, we tend to get many from the peanut gallery who have never attended Pony Fair (and honestly probably never will) shout the loudest about the unfairness of the chosen location (no matter where it ends up being). To be completely transparent, we are quite fortunate to be able to offer a 2019 event and we hope that we can continue to offer future Fairs beyond 2019.

Thank you for your continued support, and we hope to see you at this year's Pony Fair."

I *LOVE* that they have free shuttle services to/from the airport and the surrounding area.   We may have to make this one a short trip, so getting around without having to rent a car is a really nice option.

If we do decided to stay longer, at least it's in a different part of Florida. We'll definitely visit some beaches. Even if that's not your thing, they have some nice beach front restaurants with pretty ocean views.   I'm checking out Trip Advisor and Groupon for other things to do. There seems to be a lot of different things to do and see.  The Sunken Gardens, Big Cat Rescue are a couple that caught my eye.

I highly recommend the Weeki Wachee Springs live mermaids show. You need to get to the park early in the day because when they reach capacity, they won’t let anyone else in. It has an old-time tourist attraction charm that is beyond compare.

Probably not going to make it this year, too much going on at work. But if I can swing a last minute flight like a crazy person and find a place to sleep I'll try to fly out & back home just for the weekend. Though I proooobably shouldnt spend my money that way. Maybe I'll just splurge on ponies from home via the internet and pretend I made it to the fair? Fingers crossed it continues in 2020 and I can attend then.

Also I really hope theres an option again for those who cant go to pay the "support contribution" or whatever it was called and get the exclusive merch. I def wanna support the fair whether I can go or not.

We are hoping to have tickets for sale soon. We are currently looking into alternatives to the ticketing system we used in the past (Eventbrite), so we have a few details to finalize before ticket sales can launch. ;)

Historically we only offer weekend passes during pre-sales, no single day tickets. Last year our schedule was 10 am - 5 pm on Saturday & Sunday for general admission ticket holders (with a 9 am entrance on Saturday for VIP ticket holders). While we don't have the schedule set for this year yet, it will most likely be the same time give or take an hour.

Question:   "Special edition Fair Feathers Mascot Pony Figure" in the Equestria package.   I'm assuming this one is different than the original Fair Feathers?    Also, will she be available for purchase at the event, or is it exclusive to the Equestria package?

So excited!  Just extended our visit and added Thursday night to our stay :D

Yes, the pony that comes with the VIP package is NOT the same as the one that came with all tickets in 2018. We have a VERY limited amount of these "special edition" figures, so whether or not they will be for sale separately will depend on the number of VIP tickets sold. We will have the standard 2018 Fair Feathers available for purchase at the Fair Booth.

"We are super excited to announce Stefanie Eskander as our first 2019 Pony Fair special guest!

Stefanie grew up in Southern California, and attended Brigham Young University in Utah, graduating with a BFA in Illustration. After a ten-year career as an advertising and children’s illustrator, she accepted a position as a designer at Mattel in 1984, working in the large & small dolls and plush group designing for such lines as Rainbow Brite, Popples, Lady Lovely Locks and My Child.

In 1986, Stefanie and her family moved to Rhode Island, where she was senior designer in the Doll’s group, designing for Jem, Maxie, Moondreamers, My Beautiful Doll, Sweetie Pops, Real Baby, Love-A-Bye Baby, and Dolly Surprise.

After four years, Stefanie joined the design staff at Tonka Toys in Minnesota, designing and developing dolls for the Cupcakes line, as well as the WWF Wrestling Buddies, Hush Little Baby, and others. When Tonka was bought by Hasbro at the end of 1991 and closed down, Stefanie had just had a baby, so she freelanced for six months before selling a concept to Fisher-Price. She was then offered a job as senior designer at Fisher-Price in the Buffalo, NY area.

F-P wanted Stefanie to help to revitalize their doll program, so she spent nearly three years developing a variety of dolls, including her invention Cuddle-Bye Baby, plus dolls and playsets for Puzzle Place, Smooshies, Dress & Dream, and a variety of blue sky concepts. In 1995, Mattel bought Fisher-Price, so Stefanie accepted a transfer back to Mattel in California, where she again worked in the large and small dolls group, this time, as a senior level designer for Cabbage Patch Kids, Little Miss, Polly Pocket, Chatty Cathy, and a variety of blue sky concepts.

In 1997, Stefanie left Mattel to begin a 12-year freelance career, working as a designer and developer of dolls and playsets for many toy companies large and small, including Mattel, Hasbro, MGA, Playmates, DSI, Original San Francisco Toymakers, Jakks Pacific, Radica, Play Along Toys, Spin Master and others, designing and developing dolls and toys for such lines as Barbie, Barbie Princesses, Winnie the Pooh, Disneyland, Cabbage Patch Kids, Sky Dancers, My Little Pony, Cupcakes, Holly Hobbie, Little Mommy, Polly Pocket, My Dream Baby, Shrinky Dinks, Play Along Club, and others.

In 2009, Stefanie went back to work full-time, this time for Spin Master Toys in Los Angeles, designing toys and playsets for Liv and Victorious.
In 2012, she accepted a position as design manager for Girl’s Toys at Toys R Us corporate HQ in New Jersey, and she and her husband Bruce (who were empty nesters by this time) moved cross-country to NJ, where they spent the next nearly 4 years. Stefanie designed dolls and toys for TRU’s You and Me line, as well as Journey Girls, Just Like Home, and Imaginarium.

Stefanie accepted a position as Design Director at Madame Alexander Doll Company in NYC in 2015, where she headed up the play doll division. An unexpected layoff ten months later necessitated a major move, so she and her husband left the east coast and moved to Utah in 2016 to be closer to family.

Today, Stefanie still freelances in the toy industry in addition to doing some children’s illustration, toy invention, fine art, and teaching. Stefanie is currently teaching drawing at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, in the Illustration department. She often gives lectures and presentations about the toy industry to university students and school children. She has sponsored toy design projects at the university level to Industrial Design students, and taught Introduction to Toy Design at Otis College of Art and Design for 5 semesters.

Stefanie and Bruce have 4 children, who grew up as “toy kids”- Ian 39, Amy 37, Alec 33, and Annie 27. They live in Texas, Utah, California and Idaho. They have six grandchildren, ranging in age from 3 to 14.

You can find Stefanie on Instagram at @stefdesignstoys, where she shares her life and work as a toy designer."

Last year we added a few panels on other popular toys of the 80’s & 90’s, and I think they were well received. We hope that pony fans will enjoy a deeper look into many other iconic girls’ toy lines from an accomplished toy designer’s perspective. We are very excited to welcome Stefanie as a Special Guest this year.

"Guess who is coming back to 2019 Pony Fair as a special guest?

Kirk Hindman!!

We loved having Kirk so much as a guest last year, that we invited him back for 2019!

Kirk Hindman started at Hasbro in May of 1982, joining the design department as an industrial designer even though his B.S. Degree in Fine Arts conferred absolutely no actual experience in the field. “ I figured that I could fool them for a few weeks” was his reflection of the time! One of the original sculptors of the “My Little Pony” line, Kirk is responsible for sculpting some of our favorite poses including those used for Gusty, Buttons, Bubbles, Posey, Magic Star and others. He met his future wife at Hasbro, Louise Rapoza, whom he married 1989. Retiring from Hasbro in 2013, Kirk continues to freelance with many divisions in the company."

WOW! What an incredible resume Stefanie has!   Just amazing how many different toy lines and companies she's shared her talent with. Can't wait to meet her!

And YAY for Kirk returning!   Last year was so fun because he and Bonnie were just roaming the vending area for a long time, talking to lots of people.  I love having those informal conversations with such amazing guests.

“Our 2019 Vendor booths are 75% sold. If you are wanting to be a vendor at this year's Pony Fair event, don't miss out! Not only do vendors have the opportunity to display their items for sale to our convention goers, but they also have an included "home base" where they can be in the middle of the hustle and bustle but still have a place to sit, chat, and can stash their purchases under their tables. ;) “

I was really excited to return this year because I had so much fun last year and I really wanted to attend the new Takara panel. But not only is Tampa further away, but there's not enough interesting stuff in the town to justify the travel and time off work. I really loved the Orlando location because then I also did a day at Universal and Disney Springs. The only thing I see that's in Tampa is Bush Gardens, and that might be fun, but I was really hoping on being able to tie-in a disney/universal visit with my stay. Is there any particular reason why they moved it? Any chance of it returning to Orlando next year?

Stellaluna, I hope you're able to come this year ❤  I'll try to help  answer a few of your questions and concerns, based on discussions on facebook.

As far as why Tampa was chosen, our lovely and wonderful event organizer is from Tampa and had very good reason to host it in her hometown :  she is expecting her second baby this very month!   With Baby Girl due in the middle of crucial planning months, I can't even imagine how she is managing it!   Not to mention, at the time of the event, she will certainly have her hands full with the little newborn.  Keeping the event close to home is a necessary convenience.

Secondly, there are always extra expenses in hosting an event further away (even just Orlando).  Sadly last year's Fair did not have the attendance numbers as previous years, barely covering expenses. They considered not even having one this year but decided to give it one more try, saving costs where they can, with a smaller venue closeby.

That being said, ticket sales still aren't where they need to be and recent facebook posts have indicated this year could very well be the last year as an annual formal convetion.  I encourage everyone who can attend to come, as we will all celebrate ponies no matter what, but especially if this turns out to be one last hurrah!

As far as what to do in Tampa, some suggestions were made earlier in this thread (beautiful beaches,  parks, Weeki Wachi Mermaid Show, flamenco dancing restaurant). You can also check out many more ideas and reviews on TripAdvisor.com   I use that site just about every time I travel.

One big bonus to the event location is that there's an airport shuttle that also takes you around to nearby locations. There are shopping and food choices nearby.

Please consider coming.  I've always found the time I spend with my pony friends is easy more memorable than anything else anyway.  In the 10 Fairs I've been to, my only regret is that I didn't attend the ones I missed.

We usually do not have extras made beyond what is ordered, so if you would like to get a shirt at Pony Fair this year please be sure to pre-order. ;) "

Disney is only a bit over an hour away.  I was planning to do both the fair and Disney yet again.  It's a bit expensive to get there without a car (which would be my problem as I have no desire to drive on the other side of the road being from Australia) but a US resident wouldn't have the problem, either because they drove to Tampa or rented a car for that purpose.

Is it silly that out of all the things you mentioned, the mermaid show is what really caught my attention? I've heard of it from roadside attraction shows on the Travel Channel and have always secretly wanted to see it in person. Didn't know it was in Tampa! And now after seeing that shirt design and also knowing this might be the last fair, I feel much more convinced to go!

The only thing is I won't be going with my friend this year so it might get lonely. I don't actually have any pony friends yet. Hopefully I can make some at the fair!

Hi, we have not yet sent the vendor form emails. We usually wait to send them until all of the vendor booths have sold, so that everyone gets the email at the same time.

And on that note, we still have 4 booths available if anyone is still looking to vend at the Fair. ;)

The Fair Feathers included with the VIP package is different from the one sold last year. We have a VERY limited amount of these "special edition" figures, so they probably won't be available outside of those VIP tickets. (We will have the standard 2018 Fair Feathers available for purchase at the Fair Booth for anyone who missed out last year.)

I'm pretty sure the t-shirts will be black, but I would need to double check with our staff member who handles the shirt printing. ;)

If anyone is debating coming or not based on things to do in Tampa Bay:
Tampa isn't just a city, Tampa Bay area includes a BUNCH of cities.

Clearwater Beach in Clearwater has been rated one of the best beaches in the US. Gorgeous sunsets.
St Petersburg city has the Salvador DALI art museum, giant Banyan trees, night markets.
Tarpon Springs has the famous sponge docks and greek food and Hella's bakery. (amazing pastries)

Try asking for a room buddy on the Facebook page for the fair and the Facebook event.  It is definitely worth staying in the fair hotel.  Bring able to drop off your purchases so you aren't lugging them around all day is so good.

So it seems like the fair has been hosted at this hotel previously. What sort of things are available on site and within walking distance?

This is actually the first time that Pony Fair has been in Tampa, FL. The hotel's address is 4500 West Cypress Street, Tampa, Florida, 33607 if you want to Google specific things within walking distance that may be of interest to you.

From the first page of this thread:
"We think you will be very happy with what our 2019 venue has to offer. In addition to free shuttles to and from the Tampa airport as well as a free shuttle that travels up to 2 miles to tons of dining and shopping options, we’ve also negotiated breakfast vouchers for those staying on property and FREE wifi in the convention areas for attendees. The convention space is very large with a built in stage in the main hall as well as offering large spaces for panels, presentations, and events."

From the hotel's website:
"What to do around here:
Our hotel near the Tampa airport is conveniently located in the Westshore District which offers a variety of dining, shopping and entertainment including International Shopping Plaza and Westshore Plaza Mall. Attend an event at Raymond James Stadium or Steinbrenner Field just five minutes away or experience Historic Ybor City and downtown Tampa attractions just 15 minutes from our Tampa Westshore hotel."
"The DoubleTree by Hilton Tampa Airport - Westshore hotel is close to all the Tampa Tourist attractions you're looking for in Tampa Bay. Vendor Booths are sold out!

If you are still looking for vendor space, please send a message to the Fair's Facebook inbox to be added to our "Vendor Waiting List". In the event that anyone who purchased a booth is not able to fulfill their vendor commitment for any reason, we will work through our waiting list to help you get a table. ;)

Hi, I've seen news on the tshirts but I'm curious about the Fair Feathers pony. Is there a type of supporter ticket we can buy in order to get her if we're not able to attend? If not will she ever be available in the Fair store? If anyone knows I'd really appreciate it,  thanks! :)

We are not currently selling any Fair Feathers figures online. If we have any remaining after the Fair this year, we may offer them online as a Supporter Package, but that is to be determined depending on how many are left after the Fair. ;)

I just ordered my tickets and booked a room! I have a few questions:

1) Has the email about t-shirt sizes already gone out? I want to make sure I didn't miss it.

2) Is anyone organizing a pre-fair meet and greet/swap like we've done in previous years? I'll be driving down on Friday and if one is happening I want to make sure we arrive in time.

My mom came home from dinner tonight and said, "I need to talk to you about something."  But instead of being something serious she said that she was taking me to the fair/paying for the hotel and everything as my birthday present!!! Ahhh! My birthday is less than two weeks after the fair so it works. :D

Yay! What a great birthday gift from your mom! :)

Yes, the email about the t-shirts did go out. If you send me a pm with your name & email used to purchase the ticket(s), which package you got, & your shirt size(s) I will make sure it gets added to our shirt order list. Thank you!

There was an unofficial swap meet last year after the hall of fame dinner.  If Summer and her team don't already have something in mind and the one who arranged last year's don't want to head one, I could volunteer to work out something.
And only if I have the ok from the Pony Fair team.  There would need to be some rules to be fair to official vendors who have paid to set up shop etc.

I know they prefer there not be a large trade event pre-Fair, not just for the vendors who pay for that privilege, but also the VIP ticket holders who pay for early access to the vendor hall.   There's also a certain excitement in the air when the doors open for the event, and you know the room is packed with vendors whose wares haven't been picked over yet.  It's why vendors are asked not to sell or trade till the doors open.

I absolutely love informal swaps, and I also know that not everyone can afford a table, or may not have gotten one before they were sold out.  But I lean just a bit more in the direction of supporting the Fair, it's vendors, the VIP members and those ticket holders who want the full shopping experience that day.  Maybe a swap would be more appropriate after the event, or as a separate ponymeet later.

It would be fun to meet and mingle on Friday though. There have been pool parties and unofficial restaurant dinners in the past.  Some smaller groups have met up for drinks, or just in the lobby to hang out with their favorite ponies in tow.  I don't think there's going to be a Hall of Fame dinner this year, so there would be time if someone wanted to organize a group thing that doesn't impact the Fair itself.

Exactly.  The official vendors need support first.  In organizing for non MLP events, we didn't allow swaps events etc before the official vendors had a full day of sales first.  Understandable if the Fair team would like it like that for the Fair too.

Thank you, ashlyne, for putting this so perfectly!

The only thing I'd want to add is that every year that an unofficial swap has taken place on hotel property, we have had complaints from the hotel venues. In the past we have asked that unofficial swaps & large gatherings (that could block hallways) not be held on hotel property to avoid a conflict with our hotel contract.

Is anyone interested in an Instagramers meet up at some point over the weekend?  Last year it wasn’t until after I posted my photos on Instagram that I realised so many people I follow were there and many saw me but didn’t introduce themselves and I so wish they did.

I think everyone should have a name badge with their instagram handle. I feel like I know soooo many people from that  platform!

We are a little over a month away! Is everyone hyped?!?!

Don’t forget today is the LAST DAY to place orders for our totally 80’s Pony Fair t-shirt (for both event pick up & Supporter Packages). We will also be ending sales for Ponyville & VIP Equestria ticket packages after today, so we can place the order with our shirt manufacturer. ;)

You can place your shirt order now in our Fair Store:
https://store1004005.ecwid.com

You can buy tickets to this year’s Pony Fair here:

We hope to see you all there!

I'm not an Instagram person but could it be Instagram and Arena members?
And would we need to find somewhere off-site for this like those who might plan a swap?

The off-sight request is specific to organized swaps. When people spread their trade items across the floor or other hotel property, the hotel staff & other hotel guests may have an issue which in turn becomes an issue for our event staff. Informal social meet ups that do not include large amounts of merchandise, whether they are Instagram people or otherwise, are totally encouraged. ;)

Pony Fair Vendors - You should have received an email inviting you to fill out our 2019 Vendor Form on Google Docs. We ask that you please complete this short form no later than THURSDAY JULY 4th. We will be finalizing our Vendor Room layout over the holiday weekend, so any booth location requests that miss the deadline will not be honored.

If you are unable to fulfill your commitment to vend at the Fair, please send us a message to the inbox on Facebook or message me here on the Arena. We will not honor private sales or transfers of booth spaces this year. If you are not able to attend or vend, we will attempt to match your booth with someone from our waiting list.

The Google Form can also be found here:

By chance is anyone else either going to Disney after the fair or going to/through that area of Orlando on the Monday morning?  I fully intended to book a ride there only to discover last night that I may struggle to find an Uber or Lyft driver willing to do that distance considering they may not get fares back to make it worth their time.  The internet says public transport isn’t really a viable choice. Every other car private car or shuttle service is too expensive without splitting the cost with someone else and whilst car rental is the cheapest option, I’d really rather not drive while in the US.

I just thought I would check in case someone else is looking to head that way to split the cost or even if I could get a ride with another attendee (I’ll pay you of course to cover gas, etc).

Oof! me too
and I'm in the hotel next door, so it'll be an early morning for me trying to bring my stuff in with my hand truck (as I assume no carts will be available).. I'll need to try to get it all from the car to outside the vendor room, and then, when the doors open, inside the room.

I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) the staff will be selling their items at the merchandise booth during the regular vendor marketplace hours this year instead of the night before.

So close! Is everyone packed and ready? ;D

Oh man, I still have so much to do to prepare! O_o

On the topic of Instagram meetup -- was anything decided? I'm Ringwraith10 everywhere, including IG (https://www.instagram.com/ringwraith10/), because I figure that's easier than having a different username on different sites. :P I'm planning to have my username on my badge on my lanyard -- I'll try to make it big enough for people to see! But if we're doing any sort of meet and greet that would be great! The last time I went to the fair I was walking around introducing myself to people and asking them what their usernames are... but I found that pony people are typically a pretty shy bunch offline!

Yes the Instagram meet up was added to the official schedule. It will be in the Presentation Room on Saturday starting around 4:15pm. :) A huge thank you to reddsetgogirl for this fantastic idea.

I will be there, I need to see if I can find my badge with my arena name on it (I lost alot  of stuff when we bought our new house last year)

I will also be slinking around hiding free ATCs for y'all to find. Super old art of mine that never sold or traded, but maybe will find new homes.

I hope people will still be hanging around at 5 when the vendor hall shuts down, I want to come and say hello to everyone.

I probably will be, haha. I'm always the last to leave everything.

I’ve never been to any of the pony fairs before and I had a question — how do you pay? Do the vendors take cash only or do some take credit cards?

Many accept credit cards by using a Square reader. Many accept PayPal. It all depends on the vendor.

I prefer cash ( to fling at other vendors lol) but will accept paypal “friends or family” (since it’s a “reaL life” purchase, no need for buyer protection). It seems that every year more and more sellers accept credit card payments, though. Just don’t count on it. The hotel supposedly has an atm somewhere on premises, too. :)

Thanks so much, guys! I'm coming prepared with cash and I'll also have my PayPal info handy (and credit cards, as a third choice). I'm excited!

A huge thank you to Summer and all the team at this year's Pony Fair.  You all did so much in putting this event together and deserve a great deal of thanks.   It was great to be able to once again see familiar faces and see the MLP community in action.
I'm so thankful for all you folks did in making the fair happen.

I had a great time!  Everyone there was lovely and the panels were great.  It was my first time seeing so many types of ponies!  I am going to need to do a LOT of cleaning now.

We've added a Supporting Membership package that includes our 2018 Pony Fair mascot figure, Fair Feathers, the last remaining Fabulous Hair Fair Feathers pins, and the final remaining Pony Fair logo totes to the Fair Store. https://store1004005.ecwid.com/

Also, all of the Fabulous Hair Fair Feathers pin preorders have been filled and shipped out today.

Mary is working on shipping out the remaining preordered Pony Fair event shirts, so be on the lookout for those in your mailboxes if you placed an order for one before the Fair. We do not have any additional shirt inventory and are sold out of this year's design.

Thanks so much for your support!
