Title: Does Pro Active acne treatment work?
Post by: Ponyfan on August 14, 2017, 04:51:24 PM
Hi,

A friend recommend Pro Active acne treatment to me today but not for acne. Does it work for other skin conditions also? Does it work at all?

What skin issues do you have?

I used to use it ten years ago when my acne was pretty bad. I didn't get bad acne until around age 21 though. It did a great job clearing me up. However if you use it for too long it can do some pretty heavy skin damage since it's potent stuff.

They have other lines like body wash and whatnot. I never tried those. Just like anything you need to remember not to use it in excess. Best policy is regular use, not over-use.

I have eczema and my friend thought it might work on eczema since it works on acne. I didn't know it could cause damage though if you used it for too long.

I wouldn't use it on eczema - not only is it a harsh treatment but it actually tends to worsen eczema.

The main ingredient in Pro Active is Benzoyl Peroxide - which is actually for killing certain types of bacteria which have nothing to do with the cause of eczema.

Eczema and acne are two REALLY different things, you could make things far worse for yourself :(

It is best to see your Dr or dermatologist or even take to a pharmacist as they can be really helpful, especially if it is really bothering you, and get the right treatment for your skin rather than try something yourself and make your skin sore and your eczema worse.

I've used Aveeno for my eczema with good results.

Nooooooooooo don't do it. My cousin used it with great success for acne back in the 90's or early 2000's so my mom bought it for me. I have eczema, too. It was A DISASTER. I absolutely do not recommend it.

Thanks everyone. :) My situation is similar to MylittEllepony in that someone who knows someone that used it for acne thought it might work for eczema since they're both skin conditions but it sounds like Pro Active doesn't work well on eczema.

I have a couple friends who used ProActiv (not sure if they still do, but maybe), and it worked really great  for their acne. Never heard of anyone trying to clear other skin conditions with it. I'd ask a dermatologist.

ProActiv made everything so much worse for me.  I have eczema and psoraisis (spelling....)  needless to say, if you enjoy peeling sheets of skin burning off your face...

Eeeeek no!

I suffer from Eczema too and I know its an external stimulus that makes me breakout. Acne is generally a biological  or internal issue.
