Title: How to get glue residue off backcards?
Post by: wystearya on January 24, 2012, 05:07:20 PM
I'm talking about the new G4 backcards.  I have a couple of them, and both of them have a ton of sticky tape residue from where I removed the tape.  Seems the glue didn't come up with the plastic part of the tape when removed.  *ugh*

I tried rubbing alcohol with limited success.   Would acetone nail polish remover be better?  Or..?

Thanks for any help!   :lovey:

That is a good question, do you have a backcard that you don't mind if it gets ruined?

If so, I would try Goof Off and see if it takes the residue off without damaging the card :)

Crafty stores, especially scrapbooking have gum erasers that remove glue residue.

Here's one:

Thank you both!

Have either of you tried the product you recommended for removing tape glue residue?  Just not sure I want to do any experimenting.   I'd love to be able to buy just one product and have it work.  ;)

The goof off should work (it gets gum out of hair and I have successfully removed tape residue off of plastic), but I would worry about using it on cardboard as it is a liquid.

The gum eraser sounds much safer as it's not a liquid though.

I have honestly never tried it! Hope you have some success!

Hmm, well I guess I will just have to pick something and try it.   Once I figure it out I will update with my results.

I've used the glue eraser on multiple paper crafting items. The only problem with this method is that you have to get the plastic part of the tape off first.

I checked with my dad since he collects stamps, and he said to use lighter fluid.  I just tried it with a spare backcard and it works great!  If you can get the plastic part of the tape off, you can just wipe the residue off with  some of the lighter fluid on a rag, but it also doesn't hurt the cardboard if you use it directly the card and let it soak in - the card I tried it on dried without a trace of the fluid.  I'll have to try it on some more of my cards now that it looks to work well, but I wanted to check it on my spare one first.
