Title: Rainbow Brite
Post by: lalalei2001 on June 19, 2019, 01:11:58 PM
The old thread was closed, so here's a new one! Discuss all Rainbow Brite stuff here!

I recently bought the DVD set from Hallmark, and they have a few RB dolls and plushies on there, including Rainbow Brite, Tickled Pink, Starlite, and Sunriser. There's also a RB comic book from Dynamite that ran for 5 issues and is being collected into a TPB, and its sales can determine whether more issues are made.

I know 80s villains didn't often get toys but I'd have loved a Dark Princess doll or action figure. She was cool!

She is such a cute character.  It's hard not to be happy when you see her.  Her star horse is my favorite.

I really wanted a Twink plushie as a kid, and I still do! Looking for a vintage one in all flea markets I visit!

My RBB stuff is in storage now- so I am trying not to get anything new-  but the recent Hallmark goodies were pretty irresistable.  I got most of those little beanie guys and their sprites- although I may have given a few to my son to play with....   I wish I had grabbed the Murky and Lurky when they were available, they are so cute...

Awesome! Love the pictures  Although there are a lot of stuff there I don’t remember from the 80’s! The early 2000- dolls look like they have a very different design. Was the storyline changed as well, or only the design?

I really want a sprite... I remember only the plushies with the “curvy line mouth”. So adorable!

There was a very cringe-worthy "cartoon" with the 2002 reboot-  I think it was only online.  It was so stupid.  The more recent reboot was a little cuter- but still no comparison to the original.

The second picture are "dress up dolls" mostly really hard to find stuff.  The last picture are just prototypes of things that didn't make it to production-   (I got lucky and got them all from one of the Mattel sample makers in one swoop)

I love the original RB. I have an 80s Twink plushie in great condition, I just love the design. RB has a cuteness that was similar to Strawberry Shortcake.
I am a little sad the reboots so far have all been bad/bombed.

There is a comicbook out right now and I was interested because the cover arts looked beautiful but then the in-book art wasn't all that so I haven't read it yet. Also that new Twink design is... something.

Here is what I mean. It's especially jarring with Starlite:

Apparently if the comic's TPB does well they may continue the series. It was only 5 issue so it was easy to collect.

You have an amazing collection, Galactica <3

I love Rainbow Brite, trying hard though not to "fall into collecting" again XD Well... just bought two 12inch dolls two days ago, so much for keeping that promise lol... I sold my collection off years ago (had most of the dolls, the horse, the ship and some random things) and now Im missing them! The dolls I bought are Sabine Sonnenschein (Thats her german name, no idea whats her english name is. Its the yellow doll!) and Katrin Kleeblatt (again, german name, the green doll). And found Starlite on a fleamarket a few weeks ago!
I guess what got me into buying again was the doll of my friend Steffi (she passed away in 2018). I kept the doll, Bubi Blauschuh (the blue doll) and kinda found he wasnt looking good sitting there alone on the shelf. Tehehe they are just too cute!

Dont like the reboots much to me honest.

I have a decent- sized Rainbow Brite collection, but they’re all in storage ATM. This is making me want to get them out again!

Also, I MUST read that comic!

Galactica, your collection is really spectacular! You even have all the little sprites! *o*

Oh I was very curious about that comic-  agree about the jarring art. The covers look very nice but the illustrations inside are much different...

I love Rainbow Brite! I spent the last 2 years trying to complete my vintage collection. Just missing Murky, Puppy and Kitty Brite, some clothing items and many sprites. Sadly I had most of the spites as a child but they are missing now. Oh and I don't have the medium dolls, just the 20" and 9" plus Baby Brite. For Rare dolls I have Tickled Pink and Moonglow. I'l have to get a photo to share.

Wow $10.49 for a comic! Prices sure have gone up  ;)

It's 5 issues packed into one plus bonus covers. Most new TPBs are about that price; regular comics are about 2 dollars, sometimes 3.

Oh well in that case a much better deal-  I am curious but maybe not curious enough to order until I've heard how good it is...  US based comics are always so short...

It is pretty short XD; According to RainbowBrite.net it was written for the trade as a miniseries, with future adventure dependent on trade sales. Given how obscure RB was and continues to be I dunno if it'll sell well enough for Dynamite to continue the series, but there's always hope!

I got the comic! It ends pretty abruptly on a cliffhanger, but the story is neat and the art is very cute, especially the covers!
