SHOW AND TELLHave a neat pony to share? Rare pony? Pony from your childhood? Nirvana? Bring it and tell us about it! It is okay if you have brought it to prior meets!

CRAFTY TIME

CUSTOM CONTESTS

I'd love to plan to go next year. It's a bit of a drive but since I've got time to plan ahead maybe I can work it out. I'd have my girls in tow. I'm sure they'd love it. How many people usually attend out of curiosity. I've never been to one and tend to shy away from groups of people I don't know but a pony meet seems like it would be fun. Plus I'd love to see some of the talented artists work firsthand.
Also is there a brag or pic thread from this years meet so I can peek through and see how it went?

Post by: Galactica on September 30, 2015, 09:11:32 AM
It would be great if you could come Jenny! Attendance varies- usually between about 12 and 20-something, this year was on the low end of attendance.  It's never too crazy, more like a friendly gathering, we swap ponies, do some crafts, visit and eat food :D

I didn't think to bring my camera this last time so I don't have photos!  But here is an album from our first year to give you an idea:   https://picasaweb.google.com/troellchen66/PonyS

I think there's actually a pretty good range of ages! Some of us bring our kiddos too.  And let's be honest, we're really all about 10 at heart. ;)

I'm sure you wouldn't feel out of place Ponyshoes. I've not been to a meet but everything I've heard of pony people says they're all very welcoming and accepting of all ages. The meet seems like a very laid back friendly environment.

Definitely a huge range of ages- you are not going to feel out of place- it is a very informal fun event, in fact people often bring their moms, friends, kids-

The library only books out rooms three months in advance, but we've never had a problem getting it in the past. But if you are wanting to be sure I would wait until then.

Yes- as Katygirl noted-  the library opens for booking 3 months in advance, usually we don't have trouble getting a room, but just as soon as we are able, I will send a request for the date we want- and report back when confirmed!

I'm in Vancouver WA. We're planning on being there. My daughter is so excited! (So am I for that matter) My service dog may not be able to come depending on how his leg is doing. In that case I'll have a helper with me.

Also, I'll be bringing cookies. Cause a girl can live on cookies alone!

Oh don't worry- we will get the date-  I booked a couple of weeks after the slot opened last time, THIS time I'll book the same day !   Plus I know a lot of people have made travel plans already so even if we can't get the location (very very unlikely) there are back-up plans.   Another library- or even my house! (I have a HUGE crafting area now that would be perfect).

Also-  people-  the things I usually have for the Pony Party are very low key!  If anyone wants to add some more organization/events/projects-  please do so!!!!    I will absolutely NOT be hurt if someone seizes control!  Otherwise- the way it usually goes is we sit around and swap/sell/buy ponies, chat, color, craft, snack-  there is a brief pause for the custom contest voting and winner announcement, another for the coloring contest voting and winners,   aaaand-  that's about it.

Does anyone have a projector screen?  It would be pretty cool if we could project a MLP movie!

Oh wow, i'm sorry to report that the Maple Valley room was IMMEDIATELY BOOKED on August 6th- that is the day we wanted it.

I'm pretty bummed, I know that area was really close for many of you.

How do people feel about having the pony party in Seattle?  I actually have a nice large space and actually, we could then put on MLP movies.  However, you will need to PM me or email me for my address.  I live in North Beacon Hill, cross streets 15th and Hanford. Parking is okay, or you can get there from the light rail, 36, 60 and 39)

We can also set up the swap meet in the yard, I imagine August 8th is probably going to be pretty nice.

I'll check into some alternate locations as well...

OMG I just looked up Seattle park reservations, picnic reservations- and the cheapest one for one of those "shelter" things at the park is $130!

There is a library room available in White Center-  but... it's not very scenic out there, and kind of far for everyone, and not on the light rail or bus lines.

So I'm thinking my place!  We just had a party for 50 here so I think we can accommodate a  pony party even with a good turn out.

Looking around, it seems most of the large rooms are booked at every King County library. People must have caught on to how cheap it is to rent them (free).  I think there are probably a lot more events in the summer when kids are out of school...  but I had no idea how competitive it would be.  We're still 3 months out and reservations JUST opened!

I found the artwork from last year's SUPERFASTART CONTEST at the pony party!
The kid drawings are so adorable... not everyone signed their artwork so I couldn't credit all of them...

1. Firefly scene by Beth McBeth (who also did our sign/logo last year!)
2. Twilight by Larisea "Katygrl"
3.  Snuzzle by (unknown child I think)
4.  MY LITTLE PONY by Anthony age approx 7
5.  Twilight by ....?
5. Pinkie and TAF Dancing Butterflies by ....?
6.  TWO BLANK PIECES OF PAPER BY ME! Sorry, not sure how they got in there...
7. Pony scene by ...?
8. Carousel pony by Salli

Sure! I didn't see a notice come through- thanks for letting me know!

Hmm, are you sure she asked to be added? I just checked and there are no pending requests.  If you'd like to send me her name on facebook or email address, I'll be happy to manually add her.

Yes! If there's anything specific you think you might like, let me know. I haven't made my big fair order yet, so now's a good time for requests. I think just about everything I have available is in my gallery thread (sig link) except the special fair ponies, which won't be revealed until the fair. :ninja: ;)

Yay!  Oh, your art is so pretty. I need to think about what I would "request" :D

Do you ever make things like tote bags?  I was thinking you could print one of your designs via spoonflower, or like via vistaprint.com or something?

I'm kinda approaching the merchandising of the watercolor art with some trepidation... Fair pins and my Gallery Pendants are about as far as I'm comfortable venturing at the moment... might relax my feelings in the future, but idunno...... :/ i just wanna make sure the quality and integrity of the art doesn't suffer. :art:

If you (OR ANYONE) can't join the group-  send me a PM with your REAL NAME (the name you have on facebook) or address linked with the facebook account and I will send you an invite.  Hopefully that works!

Oh I just saw this!

So we have cats in the house- so the dog would need to stay in the yard, hopefully that is okay?  We do also have chickens, they are in a chain link area but I know that some dogs find chickens to be too tempting to resist so just thought I'd let you know!

oh dear. I didn't even think of it before. I also have a service dog. 33 lbs of cuteness!
Is the yard fenced? I live close enough that I could see about leaving her home, though it would cut my visit much shorter.

Dogs are probably a bad idea. We can't let them into the house as I have a Bengal cat, who will wage a piss war when everyone leaves. We have learned the hard way, it is just not worth it.

Next year maybe someone can find a location that is more dog friendly, maybe a park?

I might not make it because of mine. He's only 13lbs, but whenever he looks at a Chihuahua, they piddle on the spot. I definitely understand about the cat and territories. Cat urine is so difficult to eradicate the smell of. I just don't know if we'll make it away from each other that long. Aside from his surgeries, we've never been apart more than two hours and the drive one way is longer than that.

Well I hope you guys can make it even if it means leaving your dogs behind, but can understand if you can't bear to be parted with them.  Maybe someone can organize a more outdoorsy event next year?

In other news- it just so happens I have a very small Strawberry Shortcake fan group (about 4-5 people) who also like ponies- so they are joining our event!  What does that mean? Not much, we all like the same kinds of things but I will add Strawberry Shortcake coloring pages for the coloring contest, and if any of them would like to do a custom that would count too :D

Also it turns out our neighbor's kid (I think he is about 5) is a hard core pony fan so I invited him :D

I was thinking of doing some prizes as a Raffle-  wherein you get a certain number of tickets for each event you participate in- wouldn't that be fun?

Raffle tickets sounds fun!

Yay Strawberry Shortcake! This calls for more strawberry/sugarberry themed foods for the potluck!

I am excited for this event and looking forward to all the activities! I love celebrating pony love with adults and well behaved children. ;)

Back from the fair! Now I can plan for this meet! Are people interested in buying ponies/things & stuff at this meet, or is it more about games and cake? (either way is fine!)

Items I could bring for sale if there's interest:

--watercolor art/prints
--Giant Rainbow Brite Itty Bitty from Hallmark (I'd need a committed buyer if I bring this)
--Italian ponies, and a Dutch Baby Rabbit
--Serendipity books

Not much going on-  it was started originally because there are people who don't check in on the arena much, but who do check facebook.  Basically it is a placeholder for the date/time/etc.

I think most of the comments are duplicated here-

Joyce (a ssc/pony person) DID just ask people to let her know if they are bringing a kid- as she wants to put together goody-bags for the kids.

If you are not on facebook, and have a kid who is coming, let me know and I'll pass it along to her :D

Hm, something to keep in mind for next year. My OH has friends in Seattle he wants us to visit..... would be handy if I somehow could make that overlap with next year's event.

Would you consider this event G1 heavy or minimal vs. G4's? I like G4 too, but I am a G1 girl at heart and so out of the loop at my friends place when they were all talking FiM.

I'd say it is primarily G1 focused but definitely people collecting all of the generations come.  I think the largest group are 30-somethings who obviously love G1 the best, but there are often a few older and 3 or 4 younger people to who like G1 but seem to focus on G4-  and then there are people there who just like ponies in general, but might actually be more focused on other things these days like monster high or BJD clothing...

Personally I love all the generations! (Except maybe G3.5)    I think the G4s are easier to customize since they are plentiful and if you mess up your custom, it is no big deal. :D

The biggest number of things to trade/sale are usually G1, G3 and G4-  rarely do I see G2 stuff.

BTW Does anyone have Rescue at Midnight Castle on DVD who could bring it ?

only 7 more hours until I get home! then it's time to take more pics of things for sale, (more dolls, more ponies, horses, scentsy, random toys, plush...how did I get so much stuff?!) and find out which DVDs i have!

No worries Olymus- maybe next time :)

So we still have about 20 people who have said they will for sure come- plus an undisclosed quantity of kids- and there are some other people who have said they might come (there are always people who join or bail at the last minute so don't worry if you are one of them!)

We have lots of great things planned- don't forget the party is THIS SAT.

Hi, is anyone interested in buying or trading for my g3s? Last time I brought a lot and no one was interested.

We're pretty maxed out on G3s... so I won't likely be buying any. :/

so far no one has expressed interest in anything I have posted for sale (to buy, or to trade) so as of right now, I'm not planning on bringing anything to sell and do not plan on buying, either.
I'm still bringing Bingo and some other prizes and a secret game that I think will be fun. :)

I will admit I will mostly be giving away ponies and toys- I am trying to thin down the stuffs so I probably will not be buying much (although I do find customs to be very tempting!)

Hi! I didn't look at your post earlier because I don't have a facebook account, but I just got someone to open it so I could take a look. I am interested in three of your g1s: Princess Tiffany, Flower Bouquet and Princess Royal Blue. I'll have some g1s to trade and cash.

Lyra, thank you!!! I will put them on my list to bring with me. It's a short list, but I'm happy some ponies will find homes. :)

I'll have plenty of Copic Markers on hand so everyone can have a chance to use and create a airbrushed pony! And coloring as well! :D

Great party everyone!  We had quite a turnout this time!

I posted the people pictures on facebook (since not everyone is okay with having public photos of themselves on the forum)

Thank you everyone who donated prizes- it really made it fun that so many people could win cool stuff! And great prize-ball and door prize Jasmine!  And thanks Joyce and Patty for the craft pages and crayons and things, and Monica for the cake! And thanks everyone who brought snacks and goodies and prizes and most of all, yourself!
