Title: Man at Target teaching good morals
Post by: Mana Minori on July 12, 2018, 04:25:25 PM
I happened to be out running errands at Target, today, and while I was waiting for someone at Starbucks to get out of the bathroom, this black guy walks up with two little boys. He very loudly and clearly instructs the boys to ask the cashier "may I PLEASE have a cup of water"? After they got their water, he instructed them on saying "Thank you." (and these were boys that should've known better at their age, mind you- they looked around 6-8) This immediately grabbed my attention, because so many don't instruct their kids on basic manners, and  good values and morals are in a constant decline nowadays. I was so impressed, that I had to commend him for doing so, even though I'm petrified at social interaction irl. What's more, when they left the Starbucks cafe and went back into the Target store, another customer was on their way out with their basket, and the guy gently pushed the boys aside and instructed them on saying "excuse me" to the other customers. Dude did a good job.

I work in retail and it always makes me feel good seeing parents do that sort of thing. My favorite is when a parent lets their child pay for am item with their own money and the parent tells the child to hand the money to me instead of throwing it on the counter. I'm glad manners are still taught these days

I’ve noticed this trend too. My mom works in an elementary school, and you’d think a six year old kid would know how to say please and thank you, in addition to following rules like “when the bell rings, it’s time to stop kicking your ball and go inside.” . Glad to see some people still teaching manners to their children. It’s a good thing to know.

Manners are not the same as morals.

But yeah, in general I noticed that some parents do not care anymore how their child behaves towards strangers and there is a new casualness I do not like.
The things random kids have said to me (ironically not appropriate for the kids on this forum) make my parents shake their heads. Their generation did not have to deal with that.

Well good. Unfortunately parents like him are so rare these days and I'm glad he's one of the few raising his kids right.

Reminds me of a book called how to behave and why.

Nice to see some folks care about such things and to pass it on. Call me old school but how some kids act today would have gotten me in serious trouble. It would never have crossed my mind to act like that, ever.
