Hi,
I was checking Target today for the 35th anniversary ponies and although I didn't find them I found this.

I thought the retro SSC line was over but I've never seen this Angel Cake before. Are there more retro dolls planned for 2018?

I saw Orange Blossom and Angel Cake on Ebay! So happy they are continuing these. So sad I can't find them in Canada. If anyone is willing to help a girl out and pick them up for me that would be wonderful! :inlove: I'm also missing Raspberry Tart. I was able to find the others when I was in California in October but my hubby and kids only let me check a couple stores.

I don't collect Strawberry Shortcake (though it does look super cute, maybe someday when I have more space...), but I also saw her when I went to Target yesterday!

I found orange blossom, angel cake and a single strawberry shortcake doll all Target. Same location as the 35th anniversary ponies. They are cute I had to get them.

Congrats everyone that has gotten these. :) I hope to get Angel Cake and Orange Blossom also. Bridge Direct said they had more retro SSC dolls planned for 2018, but I'm not sure if Angel Cake and Orange Blossom are part of the 2018 or 2017 line. I'd love to see Baby Without a Name or another of the international friends.

Oh yay! I've been waiting for ages for that Angel Cake!
I'm so glad the retro line has been successful- I hope they do Berrykins... (I wish most that they'd do the Berrykins that were never made, but as Bridge Direct is all about nostalgia, I'm thinking they are sticking to the basics...) ah well!
I hope our Target does the spring re-set soon...

I am actually fairly annoyed because I recently bought a nude Angel Cake off eBay, because I wanted the headdress mostly, and the seller was billing her has "long hair version". She seemed too nice and clean to have been just found that way, and now it's clear that the seller just sold me one of these that they stripped the clothing off.

They have Blueberry now at that Downtown Target as well!
Later this year they are supposed to come out with Peach Blush! SOO Happy about that!

Seems like Bridge Direct distributed most of its product through TRU (with just a little through Target) so I'm hoping it doesn't hurt that Company too much- I really love their retro toys (SSC & MLP especially)

I hope they will release Lime Chiffon by herself too. I didn’t but the TRU 3 pack. It would be nice to see a Plum Pudding retro doll too.

Seems like Bridge Direct distributed most of its product through TRU (with just a little through Target) so I'm hoping it doesn't hurt that Company too much- I really love their retro toys (SSC & MLP especially)
The Bridge Direct recently merged with Tech 4 Kids (the company that makes the Mashems and Fashems among other things) to make a new company called Basic Fun. Walmart carries lots of Fashems and Mashems so they definitely do business with the company. I bet it's a similar situation to the Zelfs where Walmart wanted them to lower the wholesale price and they couldn't budge because then they would lose money on each one. Or maybe Walmart just feels retro toys don't suit their customer base.

They do actually look just like the originals- Estrela did a brilliant job- I hope they continue making more too :D

I do like the retro releases and have bought most of them in the last couple years. My only complaint though is that it would be nice for them to include the pets in the single releases verses just in the multiple doll sets. I do hope they keep making more of them though.

Well ToysRUs USED to have a 3-pack that included Lime Chiffon. I think that set was exclusive to TRU, so who knows whether it will come back now that TRU is gone?
They did not have pets. There are a few pets that were made- Custard cat, Frappe Frog (for Lemon), Cheesecake Mouse (Blueberry's) and Pupcake pup (Huck's) - I don't recall any other pets in the re-make.

Yep,looks like a bear to me. As a kid I loved collecting the pets as much as the dolls. Makes me want to look up all of the old pets and see who had what critter.

I haven't seen her at my Target yet but I bet that's because they share a DCPI number. I remember getting a new Monster High 5 pack for clearance price because it shared DCPI numbers with the old packs they were clearing out. I wish I was lucky enough to find her near me so I can snag her for a bargain but knowing my current luck by the time they get her she will be full price again.

I never thought of them sharing the same DCPI number. If Target doesn't see the difference between Peach Blush and Strawberry Shortcake in their system than that makes sense why Peach Blush is being clearanced with the other characters.

I have not seen her at my Target stores either. Mostly Orange Blossom is who is left on clearance now. Perhaps more of them will come in with the next wave of releases or for the Xmas season.
*update* I just managed to find her on clearance at a Target in the next city over on the 31st. Her box was open at the top and a bit beat up but the doll looks fine. She was the only one there.

I have my doubts that they will. I would actually probably buy them both if they did. They were significantly larger dolls though. Although they did make a Funko Pop of him.
The question becomes how long they will continue the line. The 2018 toy fair showed Apple Dumplin', Apricot and Cherry Cuddler all with their pets (assuming for this Xmas season maybe). To some degree (I was looking at my retro dolls last night) they have covered a lot of the characters already.

Hmm, no way I think. They were poor sellers even in the 1980s, and don't seem very popular with collectors either (low resale value)
I wish they'd do Berrykins dolls though- but I suspect they are avoiding them since the little berrykin "critters" are slightly complicated, as are the dresses and long hair- so they'd probably be rather pricey.

No sign of the babies that were at Toy Fair? The only other place besides Target and TRU (RIP) that had retro SSC was Barnes and Noble and their toy prices were always a little high.

I agree, it would have been nice if they could have done the International friends. I suspect that we might see Apricot, Cherry Cuddler and Apple Dumplin' show up around Nov. - Dec. closer to Christmas.

I really wish Lime got a single release. I missed out on the 3 pack becausethey never restocked after the bankruptcy announcement and the pack is going for $50 on ebay. I guess I'm just going to have to hope she pops up in a Savers bag someday. Probably butt naked and partially chewed knowing my luck.

When they came out in 2016 I knew it would be one of those things that was a limited opportunity so I bought most of the ones that came out when I saw them. I still have only found the one Peach Blush I bought on clearance and I have been to 10 different Targets in the last month.

It looks I missed Huckleberry Pie, Lemon, and Lime (I do have an 80's Lime though) and Orange. I was going to pick up an Orange while she was on clearance but she disappeared quickly.
I'm also hoping we'll see Apricot, Cherry Culder and Apple Dumplin around Christmas time but sending Peach Blush out right before all the SSC characters went on clearance makes me wonder. :what:
A funny thing happened to me with Peach Blush. When I first found her on the shelf, she wouldn't come up in the Target system so a really nice employee typed in her code and came up with a price (around $3) The next time I went to Target she was regular price and the time after that she was on clearance. :lol:

I was thinking the same thing that SSC maybe discontinued since all dolls were clearanced and none have been restocked. I keep checking the retro endcap which seems to look emptier and emptier.... I haven't seen any sightings of Peach at all! Anyone know her dcpi #?

Hey guys, for those who missed them or are still looking, I don't know if this is all Cracker Barrel restaurants, but at one I went to today they had the retro dolls. No Peach, but they did have two Oranges, one Angel, and one Blueberry. They also had a Strawberry with her house.

I guess the SSC train is over! I hope they continue making them in Brazil, they seem to be more popular in that market (although they are so hard to get now that Mercadolivre takes in-country payments only)

That is encouraging news. :cheer: I was sad that the line seemed to end before the babies and they pets were released. Hopefully Peach Blush will reappear for those that didn’t get them.
Please pick the retro SSC line up again Target and I’ll spend more money there. :biggrin:
