Title: NBBE baby Cuddles without freckles
Post by: Barnacle_lady on August 11, 2020, 06:09:02 AM
Past weekend I found this cute NBBE baby Cuddles on my first fleamarket since corona.
And when I was cleaning her I found out she was a no freckles version. I was wondering if there is more info about her since the wiki doesn't give a clear answer. Image search and books didn't got me further either. Hoof marks are the same like the regular version.
I do recall there is something like this with baby Tiddly Winks too.

I have this vague memory of a discussion about this before but I am not sure we came to a conclusion.

I know that odd things happen here with Baby Cuddles including a set where the box says made in spain but the pony inside appears to have HK hooves.

The box in question comes from at the earliest 1988 because of the change in the rainbow art between 1987 and 1988...but I don't know if any of that translates into that particular mystery, esp in europe.

Also freckles can be removed/can rub off. Which also makes it a bigger problem to nail these things.

Was Cuddles included in the "playset pony" mail order set?  I think the Tiddley Winks from that was NBBE but without freckles.

I don't think so, but we're talking about a fleamarket pony from the Netherlands, and I'm not aware of any evidence of that MO offer being made in Europe anywhere.

Normally I would also think freckles wiped out but then I should have seen more of them through out the years.
I still have my original buggy remembering I got the box with Lickety Split on it back then.

@LadyMoondancer, our first mailorders were the 3 baby Embers

I have both versions :) I feel like the plastic is slightly different in both, plus the freckled one is more blue in colour. (non-freckles is yellowed, but her plastic has this more semi transparent look/feels thinner?, and a greener base tone than freckles) Freckles also has slightly greener eyes than non freckles, who has a clear blue colour. I can't compare the hair as non-freckles is a rehair. the hoof markings are identical.
(why her bonnet is on like a bib? No clue. only realized after taking and uploading the pic xD sorry!)

My version is also green. The regular versions tend to differ in blue and green shades.

My BBE Cuddles is also that semi-transparent green plastic, versus my 2 NBBE ones being the more blue shade. I think 2 different plastics were used for different batches.
