So... I'm surfing eBay on the "newly listed" filter... and I am seeing pictures of all these blind bag characters, the seller (junjie1007) is describing them as a Hasbro product and they are shipping from China. Does anyone know about these, are they actually real?? I am curious if this has been mentioned before or if it is on Taobao at all.

They look pretty legit. Who knows, maybe they'll do what they did with the brushable fan favorites: Make blind bags of them then make them into an exclusive set.

I saw those! I thought they were customs but they look factory made to me. No idea what to think for sure, though. They're from a seller in China so who knows!

The same seller also has normal-sized G3s listed as "My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic Bling Bag" so maybe they're larger than the seller makes us think? :blink:

Those look like customs to me... Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure I can see brush strokes on Granny Smith and the Wonderbolt, and Shining Armor's horn looks sculpted.

Interesting. That Cadance looks different from the other (not yet released) blindbag Cadance...
So maybe they are a different type of plastic figures. Don't think they are customs.

I agree with this!
I am leaning toward legit for a couple reasons:
1.) They look pretty dirty, and a lot of stuff we see coming from China is dirty
2.) I've seen some customizers with a steady hand sure but those eyes and cutie marks don't show a single trace of a paint brush swipe, they look like a stamped paint job to me!
3.) The smear on Cadance's forelock isn't something I think a customizer going to these lengths would let slip by without trying to fix
Wish we had a size ref in the images. They do look too detailed to me to be blind bags.

It would be pretty hard for a customizer to make a custom Gilda out of plastic anyway (as opposed to out of clay or something else moldable.)

Do I think it is in the realm of possibility that some person trying to cause a commotion could made a mold (you can see the seam lines on Shining Armor where he came out of the mold), pour plastic, then did a shoddy paint job to try to pass them off as a real product...? Maaaybe. But likely? Nah.
Lots of other movies and tv shows release small molded, un-poseable plastic toy sets. In fact there's a bunch of Happy Feet penguin sets next to the MLP's at my TRU. Pokemon is notorious for that too, I think. Usually they come in 2-3 characters per package, and you have to collect them all to get all the characters? I'm guessing these might be something like that.

I didn't believe in this wave 5, but this seller has them all exept Golden Delicious and Sunny Rays. Oh, and Cinnamon Breeze.

Wow, after seeing people mention Waterfire being a blind bag figure, I had to go take a look on ebay! Normally the recycled G3s kind of annoy me, but Waterfire is one of my favorite ponies, so this is actually pretty cool! It's kind of a weird choice on Hasbro's part, though, because we already had Firecracker Burst, who looks almost exactly alike. I'd assumed Firecracker was Waterfire's G4 incarnation? Oh well, not gonna complain! :P

Hmmm.. they look legit to me, but I agree with those that said it might be a new form of collector's set or sets (just like the pokemon stuff) - For there are so many different molds. And so detailed.
Usually for the BBs they use a mold over and over again.. even when they make a new one, like the princesses or boys, it gets recycled.
But could they do that with Gilda or Granny Smith w/o taking too far a stray of the original show? xD OK, they could.. hmhm. :| But I hope they won't. xD

Shining Armour and Grannie Smith etc are not going to be part of Wave 5 blind bags as we already know the 24 characters from this BUT I actually do think these are going to be legit...
As others have said they are too dirty, scuffed and poorly finished to be a customisers. The seller is in Guangzhou, Guangdong - the heart of many of these factories.
I would suspect this is part of Blind Bag Wave 6 that we are seeing - as in addition to the "wow" characters of Gilda, Grannie Smith and the Wonderbolt there are other regular unis and pegs in blind bag poses which are being seen here for the first time! Woo hoo! Wave 6 BB I think...I love Grannie Smith! [so excited]

Oh my those are very interesting! They certainly seem consistent with Hasbro casting and painting.
I wonder if the ones in the first post might come in a set or something. They have some great details and since there is another blind bag ver of Cadance. Something else now to fawn over and wait forever to see if it hits stores....

I think they're legit. They appear to look very scuffy and have flaws. This means they were quality control rejects. Maybe Hasbro will be releasing a blindbag figurine collectors set. They did it before with another set, which was exclusively sold at Toys'R'Us.

But I do feel they are a bit too special to go into Blind Bags, maybe they will do figure packs or pairs like hasbro do with their Galactic Heroes StarWars packs and all the preschooly Marvel characters!
Maybe they are bringing back a proper ponyville style line with buildings etc.
That would be awesome to get all the sets from the show.
SeeetApple Acres, Ratities Boutique, Twilights Tree House Library, Fluttershys House, Canterlot Castle, Sugar Cube Corner, Cloudsdale! There are so many cool buildings they could do at ponyville scale!

They should also do Applebloom blind bag figure - then I could complete the entire "Apple" family. :D :D
As for the figures overall - I think they look pretty legit. I don't think they're customs - they just might be prototypes snatched straight from the factory. This could explain the paint smudges.

I saw these a few hours ago posted on ebay. I hope they are real b/c I would love to have prince & princess, wonderbolt, and granny (not sure about the eagle thing).
Princess Cadance does look different from the blind bag pic released already.
I'm saving up my money for the next wave of blind bags - non glitter ones.

I don't think they will be blind bags though. I'm seeing them as something more like the "Gift Set" that came with Twilight, AJ, Pinkie, Celestia, and Spike, only on a smaller scale.

I'm pretty sure these are legit. And I do think they're normal blind bag size, just based on how the photos are taken. They just seem tiny.
Pretty neat! I personally don't care about the Wonderbolts (don't understand the hype...) but Granny Smith looks kinda cute and the other new characters/G3 remakes are fun. Wasn't expecting to see Waterfire come back since we have Firecracker Burst but ah well, I'll roll with it! I'm a little disappointed that they used that eye shape on Shining Armor again though. :/

I wonder if the G3 remakes will be in wave 6 of the blind bags, or if they'll be in another set similar to the TRU one we already had, or the one that's coming up that had wave 1 and 2 ponies mixed with accessories?

Oh, I remember that, too! They were like assorted mini MLP figures or something and they didn't correlate to anything currently on the market. I don't recall the specifics though.

Gosh I feel like there is so much we have seen either at toy fair or on taobao or ebay that hasn't been released yet. It's already May! I wonder when were gonna start seeing this stuff in stores! I'm deathly afraid they are going to start skipping blind bag waves in the US just to catch up :(

Well I'm going with customs... for starters.. they are already going with a Princess Cadence BB in wave 5. They have been typically following the same mold pattern with many of the ponies except for the 3 princess ponies. Now it -is- possible they will be doing more molded ponies like the first G4 set. I really -don't- think hasbro is going to make molds for some of these because they will likely not use them again

Yes yes yess! That fits perfectly! I'm so excited that they're new things!
These are not sculpted customs, as you can clearly see the mold lines on some of them and the eyes/ cutie marks are clearly stamped not hand painted. No one would go through the arduous amount of tiny detail on a symbol then slop paint all over cadences horn and let them get all scuffed/dirty.
The fact that the seller also has many legitimate pony items and unreleased blind bags on there suggests to me that these are very much legit (though the seller seems to think everything is a blind bag pony from the g1 fakie to the g3 regular ponies lol)
Edit: I would also peg them at blind bag size, since if you inspect the horizon, the same amount of camera blur occurs as with the regular blind bags. In pictures of the regular G3S etc, the horizon line is sharp since they needed to zoom in much less. Yay for optics XD
Edit edit: The seller also says they are about 2-3 in, which she also states about the regular G4 Blind bags. She has a regular G3 listed at 6 in, so obviously her measurements are a little off but you get the idea.

Yeah the paintjobs are sloppy, but that's to be expected (remember the Toys R Us blindbag collectors set? Awful quality control).
Shining Armor in particular looks like a sub-average custom.
On the other hand, I'm gonna buy them anyway.

This is a good solution to the collectors who are crying out for show-accurate toys. Of course there will still be complaints from some ("omg there is no gradient on Cadence's wings!!11one") but for the most part, I think this is a good idea on Hasbro's part to make the fans of the show happy!
Commonly, movie/tv character sets like these will not reuse the same mold for different characters, too. Even the Happy Feet sets I used for an example in my previous post, each penguin had its own mold and was not a recolor of another mold. So these are quite different from the blind bag sets.
That being said, look to pay more than you would pay for a blind bag pony when these hit the shelves.

The more I look at the pictures in the very first post, the more I am inclined to agree with those speculating that they may be some kind of "Ponyville tiny figurine" set instead of being straight-out blind bags. The molding on the figures seems more streamlined and a little less "chunky" than the blind bag molds.

When I read this, I started thinking of the Sakura Miku nendoroid. GSC (the company that releases nendos) came out with a nendoroid petite charm, which is roughly 5 cm high.
Chinese knock-off companies have made a bootleg Sakura Miku, but in the normal Nendo scale of 11 cm. And currently, she's the only full-scale sakura miku available.
It just MIGHT be the case with these, but I guess we'll find out sooner or later. I'm in no rush to have everything NOW at ONCE. x)

But why would a Chinese knockoff company make distinct molds that didn't previously exist? It would be a lot of expense for nothing, when they could just copy existing molds.

The messy paint jobs are common for any small figures, including some of the G4 blind bags. So that tells me they're legit. And the dirt on them isn't odd at all. I've bought several ponies from the store that had dirt all over them. My Fashion Style Pinkie Pie had a huge smudge of dirt on her forehead. I just imagine that the factory Hasbro uses must be absolutely filthy and I wash all my ponies even if I don't see dirt on them as soon as I open them for that reason.
I still say these are from the miniature figure collection that was mentioned in the press release that came out just before the toy fair. They're most definitely real but I'm sure they won't show up in stores for awhile yet. I remember there being a long drought last year where there were no new MLP toys released for several months until like August when the Canterlot items were released at Target. After that, we got all kinds of new toys pretty steadily for the rest of the year. I remember one of the workers at Target telling me that the toy area reset they do in July/August is when they start putting out all the new toys that will be around for the Christmas season. I imagine that's when we'll see all the Fall 2012 release toys. I'm sure the same applies to Wal-Mart and probably other stores as well.

So these packs will be $8 each, and only have 3 figures per set? That seems like a rip-off, especially since the blind bags are only $2 each and of course, there's the problem of them including the same blind bag figures everyone has already. I don't mind the Big Mac figure, though, since I don't have him yet. Still, I wish they'd quit with re-releasing the main six blind bags over and over.

They're probably using the mane 6 figures as the "hook" in case kids haven't seen the show, or don't have any of the blindbag figures. After all, since the blind bag toys aren't "shown", it's quite possible that many kids don't have the main characters who want them...
I would love to see the CMCs in blind bag form, though! :)

There is Waterfire & Kiwi Tart based off of G3 ponies
Do we know what the names of the other three could be? are they based off of G3s too?
Also does that particular Wonderbolt have a name?

They're probably using the mane 6 figures as the "hook" in case kids haven't seen the show, or don't have any of the blindbag figures. After all, since the blind bag toys aren't "shown", it's quite possible that many kids don't have the main characters who want them...
I would love to see the CMCs in blind bag form, though! :)
Though for the kids that haven't seen the show it doesn't really matter which characters the packages contains since they don't have the same connection between the characters

Except Rainbowshine has purple eyes and Snowcatcher's cutie mark is different colors... I thought she might be her own character because of that. :D

The blind bag characters are included for children who HAVE seen the show, silly people. Of course kids want all their favorite characters! And there's no garantee that they have the blind bag figures already, so it makes sense to include them in these sets. We would call a company silly if they said they were just putting out 'side characters' in play packs without including the main characters! Why would a kid want to play with Glinda without a Rainbow Dash to join in?

And does anyone else think it's a bit coincidental that Hasbro put out this 'press release' on their facebook page RIGHT after we have been talking in this thread here on the Arena, and the ebay auction has gone up? The timing seems too much of a coincidence to me...
My guess is someone at Hasbro is either monitoring ebay or the Arena or both and saw this and decided they better make an announcement before rumors get out of control lol.

Pretty cute. Too bad they're still few and far between in NE WI. I just finished finding all of wave 1!
ETA: Just looked over the blind bags on the reef and they sure are using a lot of G3 characters.

I am so happy that these are going to exist. The more Equestria in my life the better!
I already have the mane 6 figures and Big Mac, so I'll be buying doubles of those... but I don't even mind! I need all of these, especially that Granny Smith! How awesome is she?
ETA: I'm predicting a second wave of these, sets based around Pinkie, Fluttershy and Rarity. Who do you think those would include? I think maybe Mr and Mrs Cake in Pinkie's set (although I would die of happiness for Pumpkin and Pound Cake, they may just be too tiny), and Sapphire Shores with Rarity? I would really like to have a Luna. Is it too much to ask for a CMC and Zecora set? XD

There is no official name for her, but the voted on "Placeholder Name" over at FiM Wiki (http://mlp.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_Wonderbolts) is Surprise (since the color scheme matches):

Pinkie Pie was originally pitched by Lauren Faust as being G1's Surprise (with wings). I hear Hasbro couldn't get rights for using the G1 ponies or something, which may be why G3's Pinkie Pie was used instead of G1's Surprise. If they couldn't use Surprise for Pinkie Pie's role in the show, I doubt they will officially name this Wonderbolt Surprise either.
Now that i think about it...i wonder if they will mention the name of that Wonderbolt on the package.
My guess is that the package will name that Wonderbolt something.

It took me ages to figure out that was supposed to be a crown. It looks like her horn has a tumorous growth or something.

The finalized product on the Facebook page has the crown looking a little better than the ebay auction. It helps to have a proper paint job. :)

I didn't wanna make it sound offensive, but yeah, it looked like a huge tumor or a giant pimple with cysts. lol XP
I'm glad they put details on her shoes, but made her wings all purple.
