So, I just found a better way to remove a neck plug from a G4. Using an exacto knife is effective and works but can be dangerous for both you and your pony.
So I started looking for other ways to remove it.
I looked in my scrap booking tools and found the perfect thing!
It's a Cricut tool for removing paper pieces from their cutting mats.
I believe they call it a Scoop tool. It's slightly spoon shaped. I was able to push it between the neck and the plug all the way around and then scoop out the plug.
Worked wonders!
You still have to be careful but I think it's much safer and easier than the exacto knife.
Here's a couple pics.

Sweet thread! I've been using a metal nail file with a round tip but this looks even better. This could prevent so much future damage xXx

Thanks so much for this! I actually sliced my thumb waayy open on Sunday trying to get the plug out of a Celestia and in the process hurt myself and destroyed the pony. =(
I'm definitely going to give this a shot!

Oh, duhh! I'll bet that a Speedball tool ( I got it to work with paperclay BJDs) would work great, too!! I never thought about that! I'll have to try it, for sure! Thanks for the post slj!! :lovey:

Yep! Come to think of it there are probably a few similar tools that will work. I think I have a clay tool shaped similarly as well that would likely work.

Oh man I actually think I may have one of those. Great idea!
Now any tips for getting celestia's wings out of her back lol...?

I haven't done one of those yet. So I'm not much help. I just read people saying to use an exacto all the way around the wing base then pull them out. Maybe using this same type of tool could work?

Thank you so much for this tip! I had to go and buy a kit so I got it but all those other tools looked useful, too. Can't wait to try them, I also cut too much with an exacto knife and it doesn't look pretty. :(

Oh I'm definitely going to show my husband this!! He always helps me take the neck plugs out and be sliced his finger a few weeks ago. I don't know why they did t make G4 necks like G1's! It would have been sooo much easier!!

If this can save me from slicing off my fingertips, I may actually start customizing G4s again. Thanks for the tip!
