Hi,
Does anyone know the time line order for the Equestria Girls movies/shorts? I want to watch them in order but I’m not sure where the shorts go in the timeline?
This is what I have so far
Equestria Girls
Rainbow Rocks
Friendship Games
Legend of Everfree
Tales from Canterlot High (Dance Magic, Mirror Magic, Movie Magic)
Forgotten Friendship
Rollercoaster of Friendship
Is that the right order? :)

That is the correct order. Some of the stand-alone shorts fit into the movie storylines, but don't add anything to the story itself (more like a comedic extra).
On a side note, I've noticed several times that people refer to Equestria Girls with the abbreviation EQG. I'm very curious to know why the added "Q", as opposed to simply EG (the abbreviation Hasbro used, for ex. on the mini stands). I was wondering about that, nothing more :)

Yep, that's the right order. It's interesting because although EQG (I don't understand the Q either but it's habit now xD) has had a reboot, the continuity still pretty much works. I hope that Starlight Glimmer is going to come back if these continue, because she barely had a chance to do much, but otherwise there's still progression and not a break where the reboot comes in. Thankfully.
I feel like the short episodes have a continuity between themselves, esp 2nd and 3rd as they lead into one another.
But probably if you watched the shorts out of order it wouldn't matter, so long as you watched them after Everfree. Because the two newer eps (Forgotten Friendship & Rollercoaster of Friendship) reference things that happened in Everfree, but I don't think they reference the shorts...?

Hmm, I'm not sure either. Anyone know which part of the fandom coined the term "EQG", collectors or bronies? I guess there is that certain brony site that (I believe) is abbreviated "EQD" as opposed to "ED", maybe it's influenced from that or something.

Thanks everyone. :) I wasn’t sure if the shorts referenced things that happened in the other movies or if they were supposed to be stand alone shorts.

Without spoilering, certain plot developments up to the end of Everfree mean the shorts make more sense viewed after Everfree but I don't think it matters whether you view them before or after the two newer episodes about Friendship. Those also need to be viewed after Everfree though, for same reasons :)
Have fun watching :D
I like Rainbow Rocks (because it takes off Jem a lot) and Everfree best :)

Yes Rainbow Rocks is definitely the best. The amazing music has a lot to do with it of course.
Everfree has the most catchy intro song IMO, but Friendship Games has the best build up to a finale (so much going on during "Unleash the magic")

I like Everfree for reasons of character development. The plot...and Gloriosa in particular...I find a but jarring. But a lot goes on for the girls so...I forgive it. I feel like Rainbow Rocks is the best though I am certain that scene where the rainbooms perform is lifted almost entirely from Jem and the Holograms first performance of only the beginning...
Though that homage makes it awesome too. Adagio and co do have the best songs.

My favorite songs from Rainbow Rocks are “Under Our Spell”, “Lets Have a Battle of the Bands” and “Welcome to the Show” :)

Yep :D Adagio harnessing that Misfit magic ;) I really really would have loved them to make her as a pony. I've seen some custom versions of her and she looks awesome.

Rainbow Rocks, IMHO is by far superior indeed, its one of my favorite MLP things out there, I watch it at least twice a year and I have teh soundtrack on rotate in the old fashioned CD player inn my car...
Not sure where teh "Q" came from in EqG, but its a preference for me now as well, looks odd just saying "EG"
