Title: Somewhat legit Princess Cadence fakie?
Post by: freezestime on February 26, 2019, 08:57:17 PM
Hi friends.

I went to one of my regular second hand shops and found a Cadence with some tinsel hair, I gave her a 5 second overview and bought her, thinking she was legit.

On my way to do chores and I notice her mould is very different, not the usual hollow matte plastic. She was shiny, heavy and her mould was very off. She didn't have any traditional singular line indicating where the plastic was joined, she has a line of like glue around her edges, with random splots littered about and I can describe it as, someone took a mould of her while she was covered in clay.

The only thing that's throwing me off is her paint jobs were spot on, eyes in the right place, cutie mark and they even had different coloured plastic for her wings (they're beginning the process of becoming unglued from the hole they were put in now that I look at her)

So is this a horrific job on Hasbro's part or a bootleg with access to their legit stamps?

Can you post any photos of her?

Also I think she may be from something like this except she's meant to be displayed on her right side, she has a yellow tail and has more tinsel.

Oh btw it's the weird marks are on the back of her neck/head.

Hmmm, it’s tough to tell! Hasbro’s quality control is so bad that fakies are starting to look more and more like the real thing to me! :P I really think your pony may be authentic though, the eyes are way too good for a fakie imo. I also swear I’ve seen her with the gold tinsel in stores before! I feel like she came in some sort of set?
I honestly do have G4s in my collection who have weird seams like your cadence has, so that also makes me think she’s real, just maybe not of great quality.
Do her hooves have any makings? Even if fakies are using a Hasbro mold, they usually won’t have the same foot markings!

I tried making all of her hoof marking viewable but this is the best I could do.

Plus I researched all Cadence toys on MLPMerch.com and I think she could be from 2012 "Crystal Princess Celebration: 2 pack (With Applejack)" or 2015 "Cutie Mark Magic: 2 pack (With Applejack)" plus bonus info she's sun-faded on one side (Because Australia)

She looks legit to me. As Minty_Magic said, usually fakies tend to get rid of the text on the hooves when copying the molds. Plus, I've got a fair amount of G4s (many bought new) with what I assume to be a hole for the tail that they originally poked too low, and filled in later, just like what your Cadance has here. I think that'd be an oddly accurate mistake/detail for a fakie to have.

I'd say she's an authientic. They just always have those weird seams because quality has been in the gutter for a while. You're more likely to find the weird tall princess fakies in the wild anyway, the ones where they make everyone an alicorn. Even on those molds, it looks like the bottom hooves say simply "Pony" rather than "My Little Pony"

Looks legit to me. The "facial lines", chest lines, and, er, butt dimple are common on G4s.

Also I don't think a fakie company would bother with the batch number (the black number) on the bottom of the hooves.

That's a relief; although that really sucks about the quality, having legit merchandise mistaken for a bootleg is a big problem but thanks for your input everyone! It's very much appreciated!

I think she may be from the Crystal Princess set with Applejack too. I agree she's not a fakie. Hasbro quality control was pretty bad for a while.

QC is awful. I bought a Sandbar with terrible eyes, and pearly ponies with huge gaps in their neck. They don't bother to paint Spike properly anymore either, he has purple ears, chin, and fangs nowadays.

^ my lovely sandbar that i had to spend $30 on amazon for because no stores would stock him!

Oh definitely! My All About Starlight Glimmer's got a weird deformed hoof that goes out too far down on one side so her balance is weird.

I was under the impression that everything was okay, but I only got one G4 pony brand new in packaging is the reboot styling princess Luna with sparkles.

She was fine overall but once I started to brush her hair, it immediately began to frizz at the ends and I'm still in the process of straightening it out, and her coloured part of her eye goes beyond the white part of her eye on her right side (so it was visible from the packaging)

i have this set and whats funny is that the princess is in really nice condition but my applejack looks fake- shes so pale and her plastic is soft and she looks horrible truly horrible quilty but they are legit. its just hasbro making cheap toys.. thats all. especially with their tons of rerealse it make sense they will make some crappy ones among the rest

Real, just bad quality.

Keep in mind they switch factories and sometimes the dies/molds have to be redone so the later ones might not look as great as earlier-

Also once the G4 line was in decline I suspect even less attention to QC...

If it says Hasbro, there's no doubt that she is authentic. Hasbro's quality sucks hardcore.
