TBH, I used to photocopy the G3 colouring books and play around with colours on those, and that's how I came up with FadedIvy originally. She's my favourite shade of blue, with purple hair, to match my very first pony. Then I picked something I felt an affinity to as a symbol. Ivy covering her like an old wall, like it hides the real her, like I have most of my life. Ivy is also said to signify femininity and loyalty, both traits I identify strongly with in my true personality, but not necessarily the side of myself I show the world. She's an outward representation of the inner me. I also adore TAFs, so she was perfect. No two pictures of FadedIvy have the same ivy placement, I like to let artists draw her as they want to, (even TAF optional) as ivy is always growing and changing, and so is my life and my emotions. I love every picture of her being so different!
Just play around and have fun. Your ponysona can change, and you can have more than one, too! Just as long as you're happy, that's all that matters!

Ponysonas are really fun, I made my first one pretty quickly after I registered to a FiM-forum, in 2012. I got carried away a bit and it became a powerful Alicorn who travels in space. Her name was "Princess Comet". As you can guess, she used her magic to be a pretty comet in the sky. It was supposed to be me, but boi, it was too overpowered. :lol: I was 13.

So yeah, I had her for some months (March-August 2012) and then, I calmed myself down an decided to change my ponysona, make it a bit more regular and drew it.

August 2016, long mane like I did. I went in some sort of depression and isolation from july 2014 to september 2016. This is me, being nostalgic of some good times I had before and also still grieving my precious cat who brutally passed away. Now I 100% moved on from that sad period. ^.^

And now - 2017 -, I'm 19. I don't draw that often anymore, but my pony changed again. She got a new hair cut, is joyful and her eye color changed again, her previous green eye is now a lapis-lazuli blue.
So yeah, in conclusion, a ponysona is a reflection of yourself. But you can do whatever you want really. It's up to you and your creativity. =)

I struggled with making pony forms for my main persona Koudo who is a dragon and still have never settled on one but I think when I finally decided to make my pony persona, Cavy, it just kinda clicked. The white coat and reddish orange mane are in tribute to my guinea pig Atomic Fireball who was a red and white guinea pig. Her name is Cavy because that is the other word for guinea pig. Her eyes are green because mine are and I love green eyes. Her mark is a black guinea pig because like me she has an affinity for guinea pigs and unlike me she can also communicate with them. I also love black animals. At first she was just a unicorn, then I gave her wings because Koudo is a dragon and has both wings and horns also and Cavy is supposed to be me in the pony world. Cavy can be seen in my sig^^

You know what could be cool? A single flower, but the stem has a nib at the end, instead of an angled cut. That would be awesome, and could be really subtle, depending on how you drew it.

I've had trouble settling on a ponysona! I made my first one, Melodica, maybe a year or two after Friendship is Magic came out. I wasn't happy with her, so a while later I made Leaf Cascade and have been using him as my ponysona for years. (Leaf Cascade is the one in my profile pic and signature)
Now I'm going to remake my 'sona again... just not happy with the colors since they're not really "MLP" enough.
But it's been about 5 years and I'm still working on my final design! So I think a lot of people change theirs every once in a while, or the design slowly changes as the person changes.
I keep changing my designs wildly and never settle on one...my sig has a design that I'm still working on the G4 version of. I'll try to whip something up tonight, maybe I'll post in this thread when I've got it.

I love the bee symbol! The colours are also really neat and I think it was a great idea to make her a sparkly pony, you don't really see those as personas so it's something unique! And the sparkle effect looks great with the dark red.

My favourite colour is red and I love red against bright, pigmented oranges and golds. I might try a lotus-ish design and try add the bee into it.I love the bee symbol! This site doesn't like my photo links so I can't show ya but I went through 2 different ponysonas....and now I have over 50 story ocs they aren't me but they are characters I own I love writing pony stories.
My first ponysona was stardust. She had palimino fur matching my skin color brown hair matching mine wore pink bows on her pigtails and tail matching my style and had blue eyes...just like mine I rl. Oh and silver hooves but thats to match a real horse. She was and earth pony and aside from being a draft breed because I connect with drafts was as boring as they come. A young adult blank flank who felt she would never get her cutiemark i had a blog for her and everything but she was super boring.
I did a design trade with a nice brony on Tumblr, they are a cat, if you know them you know exactly who I mean lol they sign thier art "a cat" we each ended up drawing blue Pegasus for each other. The one they made me was this light blue foal with white blanket appaloosa markings and white ears. The eyes were covered by a deep blue forelock. The mane amd tail were short and i couldnt tell the gender. I made her a 12 year old filly gave her emerald green eyes and wrote her into a story i hacent officially wrotten out of my mind yet besides sending piles of detail to my writing partner lol. I ended up putting way to much of myself into her and when i realized this i made her my new ponysona. Thats sapphire or saphy the filly in my icon. I later added the leg markings. Cause cute.
I could tell you tons about my story characters too....I should make them a forum they answer questions on my fa account.

Have you tried the shine tool on paint tool sai?
Making her seethrough (turn down the opacity on the fur color layers) could help too

(not 100% fond of the name either anymore xD ugh. poor pony) I've tried redesigning her in the past, but nothing has really felt right. Except for when she went from pegasus to earth pony. I like the colours on her a lot, and I definitely want my 'sona to have the septum piercing, but I'm thinking once again of scrapping the wings (they were an add-on through the meme, so I didn't choose them xD).
Thing is I'm a bit of an all-over-the-place-person.
I LOVE pastels, kawaii stuff and lolita clothes (especially sweet. but I don't wear them >_>). I dress very goth/metal and do my makeup like that, and I love everything dark and spoopy, piercings, tattoos, corsets etc as well xD (and I definitely don't want a white pony with black-and-purple mane and heavy eye makeup. :V). I'm also a huge geek and play WoW for example. I do art (obviously), mostly traditional and when I'm at home I just artsy fart about in totally boho clothes like harem pants and huge knitted jumpers and drink lots of tea (and some wine if it's a weekend), messy (well, for me. I'm particular about keeping my hair as healthy and long as possible XD ) hair, no makeup etc. I'm a witch (think wiccan) and love crystals, tarot, all the tumblr-witchy stuff basically (before it was cool >A< !!1!!11 )
Aaaand then animals. I'd have all the pets if I could fit them, but currently just cats and a reef tank (in progress), but we want to get rattos, more tanks, snake etc.
So yeah, what's my ideal ponysona? XD Something that screams me, even if not everything above is represented. I think you can see why I have a problem ^^' But yeah I'll make my own thread, I don't want to swamp yours :)

The image of me I tend to put out there pretty much only shows my spoopy side, with a hint of rocka/gothabilly (forgot that in my list... lol. love burlesque and rockabilly/40s-50s style, also 20-30s, also super into recreating authentic-ish medieval clothes... hahaha), but I want to change that in some way because I just can't be so niche like that. I guess I have the same issue with my YT like I have with Neko, and just things in general. I struggle with what I want to identify myself as. AT the same time I want to scrap labels completely, because I sort of feel like it's restraining me. I get very locked into things when I do that. (hence why I say 'witch' instead of wiccan, for instance, and I guess my practices and believes don't follow wicca to a T, either, but I'm pleased with it since I did that change :) )
For a while there Neko's symbol cat was a black manekineko holding a pentacle, actually, but yeah. I still don't feel like I connect with the design anymore.
I actually am very pleased with the design of that pony, except for the wings and symbol. Focusing on aesthetics instead of representation should help, thanks a lot for that tip :)

I think that sounds like a very good idea ideed, I should take that to heart with characters in general x) I'm not used to creating characters visually (I'm good with writing them up for like DnD/WoW rp or the fiction I've written in the past), but I'm trying to work on a couple characters atm for other projects, so I think doing what you suggest is a great idea :D When I do get around to doing that, I'll be putting it in my ponysona help thread I made ^__^

This is Lilac, the first one I made. He sort of reflects the more fanciful side of me, the dreamer. He's blue because I like blue, his symbol is lilacs because that's the state flower of Idaho where I was born, and he's a Flutter Pony because I really like Flutter Ponies.

This is Double Gulp, a more "down-to-earth" representation of me that somewhat more reflects me as I am (hence the brown hair). His symbol and name come from the fact that I consume lots and lots of Double Gulp refills.
