This is a great show! I love how it's influenced by stuff like magical girl shows and video games. I haven't been able to watch the new episodes that have aired this week, but hopefully can catch the reruns. I like how Steven looks up to three females as his role models, and how his powers are defensive and healing, but no one considers him to be weak because of it.
I like all the gems but Amethyst is my fave.

The fandom did make me apprehensive at first, especially when it looked like one of the less desirable Brony factions was going to try and take over- but that seems to have dried up.
My only complaint is that there is no toys! I really would love a set of Steven Universe figures...
I LOVE this show more than MLP:FiM. Steven Universe actually makes since, and its the only cartoon that actually grows and develops :) I can connect to it, and it makes me feel all emotional at times :P (not many cartoons can do that to me)
And at first I was turned off by the Uncle Grandpa crossover episode, but I gave it a chance and actually liked it :3 (even though I HATE uncle grandpa)
I'm just glad I have Garnet as my actual birthstone :D and plus she's black? That's another plus for me ^_^ Estelle was really the perfect choice for Garnet's VA. (I still like Estelle's song, "American Boy")
But my personality is more with Amethyst. We're both scrappy XD.
My boyfriend is annoyed that his birthstone is a "nerd", which is Peridot. I say, "Hey, she's one of those advanced gems. " and he still dislikes her. :lol:

Pfff apparently December's birthstone is turquoise, I hope a turquoise appears in the show at some point.December also officially has blue zircon and tanzanite. They have blue topaz too, but I think it is more of a commercial thing because blue zircon is hard to find in gem grade quality and turquoise is not "fancy" enough I suppose for jewelers. Tanzanite was only added recently to December's official list. So any of these can stand for December's stone.
If you go by zodiac though, some places say sagittarius is lapis lazuli. This is good!

Amethyst, Steven and Rose are super easy- Pearl is do-able, but Garnet is a little more complicated! But I do have the shades and wig down so far!

Id like to see this show! I saw a lot of people dressed as Rose Quartz at Akon and I think the show looks funny! It reminds me of Flapjack or Adventure Time! Is it like a kids show?Its a cartoon yes. But a more mature cartoon IMO, nothing like Flapjack or Adventure Time :P
I think it has a lot in common with Adventure Time- but I can only take Adventure Time in small doses, as it can get very annoying and there is no real underlying story.
Steven Universe started out seeming like there was no underlying story- but then it becomes clear that there definitely is.

All the new episode except Renaldos almost had me in tears. Though I'm more assured of Peridot's character as a "do it for science" experimenter who doesn't let morality get in the way of "technological' progress. Of course if there's one thing this show has taught, its that people are a lot more multi faceted than that.
As for cosplay, I'll be Stevonnie with Steven's shield and Rose's sword at Otakon in July, and I'm working on Opal, but that's no where near done, so not this time. I'd love to cosplay Garnet too at some point, but I feel like I'm not sure if it's really OK for me, being white, to cosplay a basically black character...I mean, technically she's an alien, but still...I don't want to accidentally do something offensive. Even Stevonnie, I'm not entirely sure...

I think they might not understand human romantic relationships (at least not without effort, like the effort Rose Quartz made for Greg), but they do have their own equivalent. Ruby and Sapphire are in the equivalent of a romantic relationship--Garnet says as much when she turns down the postal worker in 'Love Letters.' "Three's a crowd."

I think all the fusions are metaphors for relationships--some romantic and some platonic. Fusions like Jasper + Lapis Lazuli are the equivalent of toxic, unhappy relationships.

There are a few Season1 episodes on DVD, but they're not in order and the color transfer seems *really* bad, at least on my copy. All the shades of pink this show is so fond of are all this weird glowy red.ouch! I'll wait til its released as a season to buy it. Then I can binge watch it again!

The idea is that Pearls are servant gems back on homeworld which would explain why she cleans, is very knowledgeable about many things, and was not meant for fighting. My boyfriend also believes Pearl shows clear signs of PTSD.

I think Amethyst constantly feels the weight of her past. I watched "On the Run" again the other day and Amethyst says she was in the kindergarten for "a while" before Rose found her. By herself, I guess?
Anyway, she talks about the her time in the kindergarten very fondly, and then Pearl warps in, looking horrified, and tells Steven "I'm so sorry, I never wanted you to see this HORRIBLE PLACE. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CaGRSWPoNt0)" And I think Amethyst has insecurities about what that makes her. If she comes from a "horrible place" and even loves that horrible place, does that make her a horrible gem?

I gave it a try recently and liked it too. Along with Adventure Time, it's got a surprising amount of adult humor.which is funny because the creator of Steven Universe worked on Adventure time too :lol:

LOL!! She is pretty adorable!! She seems to be taking on a very Zim-like characteristic, I think? Like, she's SUPPOSED to be the villain, but she's too adorable to take seriously, so people just think her evil schemes are cute! But I never really went for Invader Zim, so that may be my problem. :lmao:
I took a plunge and decided to try this show again, and got caught up in ...a very short amount of time. I think I liked the episodes after episode 15 a lot better than the ones before, probably because everything started building up (whereas I thought it would follow more of an episodic format that most cartoons do). And then when I was getting excited for all of that buildup I was afraid they were going to pull a Sailor Moon and go back to episodic stuff making you wait for anything too exciting for a long time.
I know... Comparing to Sailor Moon is random. Just two shows I watched around the same time, that's all. :silly:
I did find the Hospital episode a little off, though:SpoilerIt's nice that Connie's mom has learned the truth, and has saw that maybe being so strict isn't the best form of parenting... But the whole setup to it was weird for me. Why was Connie's mom so casual with the ...cluster (is that what you call them?) as her patient? You'd think that would have been something completely foreign and scary to her, and not an average patient, as she was treating it.
With that, the storyline just could not feel natural to me at all.
"Catch and Release" sold me on Peridot, while before I was like "Eh, she's okay I guess." (I actually don't like Invader Zim, so even if Peridot was inspired by Zim, she's far enough away from him that I like her, ha ha. But partly the "gross" aesthetics of the Invader Zim show is what turned me off.)

I saw preorders up for several SU plushies on Toywiz. They seem a bit pricey on there, but Toywiz is usually very overpriced... so I'm not surprised. Anyway, they had Steven (small and large versions), Amethyst, Garnet, Pearl, and Lion. ^.^
I got my SU leggings the other day and I want to wear them all the time now. They're so comfy!

So one thing I thought was odd about the Garnet fusion in The AnswerOf course I loved the episodes and can't wait for more :DSpoilerIt was so upsetting and "disgusting" to the Gems when Garnet fused- and clearly two different Gems - it certainly could not have been the first time since Gem culture is so ancient-
And yet... when Jasper wanted to beat the Gems, she and actually Lapis didn't really hesitate before fusing.
You could say that maybe things evolved since that first Garnet, like maybe in Gem society two different Gems fusing became more okay- but that doesn't make a lot of sense given how old Gem culture is right? Plus Lapis was trapped in the mirror, so wouldn't she at least have been reluctant or think that it was unnatural or disgusting to fuse with Jasper? Just a thought.
But of course the real answer is that they wrote "The Answer" fairly recently right?

I started playing the app game "Attack the Light", and I highly recommend it to anyone who's a SU fan! It's $3 or $4. Very cute and surprisingly true to the show in terms of dialogue and items. (For example, you can use Cookie Cats to heal, Rose's Tear will revive a poofed gem, etc.)
I'll have to look into that app! Especially now that I've sorta hit a standstill in the Rick & Morty game I've been playing on my phone. :lol:

Those won't be keychains, those are mystery minis, so they'll be blind boxed. Usually Funko keychains are based on the Pop! figures. :) I might buy an entire box, depending. Hopefully they don't make a super rare chase figure or anything.

Hmmm, these last three episodes. They were cute, but I guess I was expecting a little more. Doesn't SU usually have a bit more depth? These seemed very fillery.

Yikes, I didn't like Lapis to begin with, and with every new appearance I like her less and less. We, the audience, knows that Peridot is reformed, but Lapis doesn't, and it's frustrating to see her refuse (as always) to accept the truth she doesn't want to hear. I hope she comes around eventually.
I'm really confused as to why "Steven Floats" didn't air here. It was in the French leak lineup after all? Did they decide that more people watched it when it leaked online so just didn't bother? Huh.
Oh, I didn't even know about the leaked episode. Oh well! I can wait for it to air this summer- I assume it's part of the Summer of Steven lineup?
The SU dog tags are very cute! I'd consider collecting them if I wasn't already thinking of selling off my entire collection of MLP dog tags. I just don't know what to do with those things. >_<
The episodes are not "leaked" - they aired on Cartoon Network in France. France just got the episodes before the US for whatever reason.
Oooooh, but that does explain why when my husband and I watched 'Hit the Diamond', the opening was the old one and the little logo at the bottom was in French. We had watched it early because we weren't going to be home on Thursday-Saturday. Which brings up another question: France doesn't use the newer opening? Because when the episode started I was like "Did we click a link for a season one episode instead?"
Is it really surprising that Greg would spend his money that way, though? :lol: I mean, the guy lives out of a van. He probably could be used some sort of financial advisor, haha.
I've enjoyed the episodes so far. It may sound stupid, but the one about Sour Cream and his relationship with his step-dad and actual dad kinda hit home for me. I thought it was a really interesting subject to touch on, one that you don't get in cartoons.

The oonl minis I've picked up have been the small blind bags at Target. They have tiny stands for the figures and they're adorable! I've gotten Steven, Connie, Pearl, and Garnet so far. I hope they make others because the price is better than the Funko ones- even if I really want Greg, Lion, and Rose from that set. :lol:
Episodes like the most recent one are why I will forever suggest Steven Universe to anyone who thinks American made cartoons are garbage. This show evokes feelings within me that I don't typically get with other cartoons, and the music...oh the music! :blush: I'm so glad that most of my friends watch it, this summer of new episodes has given us a LOT to talk about, haha. I'm also glad my husband loves it as much as I do. We have some pretty in depth discussions about it and I love that.

That was an amazing episode. I could relate with Pearl's awkwardness so much, plus "mystery girl" was beautiful. That's the type of episode that makes me love this show.

That was powerful. I love how this show can go from silly moments, like them playing catch with the football, to tear inducing moments in just a few short minutes, but still make it feel so fluid.

...Even to the point of questioning the purpose of emotion itself:
"Why keep up her silly zoo? Oh tell me... what's the use of feeling, Blue?"
In that same scene, Yellow criticizes Blue for sentimentally hanging on to the bubbled Rose Quartzes because "...they were hers". Pink Diamond had a penchant for "unecessary" things, like the aforementioned human "zoo". Maybe Yellow felt that Pink's frivolities were damaging their mission, and decided they'd be more efficient without her?
