So, I have a predicament, and I'm afraid it ends up as one of those "whatever you feel is best" conundrums, but... I'm interested in your input.
Until today, I had one MOC G2: Sugarbelle. I want to keep at least one MOC of each generation, but as of today thanks to a really great BIN price, I have something really special: MOC Princess Crystal!
Now, I'd like the experience of opening a G2 and I'm trying to decide which to open. Having MOC Princess Crystal is pretty amazing, but I'd like to have her loose to pose and display. Of course, I can always eventually get a loose one, too. Princess Crystal isn't CRAZY expensive...
So what would you do?

Honestly? Sell one MOC and use the money to get a nice loose one.

Id keep both MOC. :) I wouldn't be able to choose who to open.

Hard question to answer, I'm not a decarder myself but I get where you're coming from... but still, I would keep both MOC. Maybe search for a damaged MOC to open?

i would personally decard sugarbelle and keep moc princess crystal, then buy a loose one. finding one on card seems like such a score i wouldnt want to take her off!! you can find loose ones readily.

Then buy a cheap g4 and de-card that one instead ;)

keep both MOC, if you *really* want to decard a g2, try to find one on a card/bubble in bad shape. I feel it's such a pity opening up ponies that are no longer in production, unless the box/card is damaged bad. There's no knowing how many MOCs of a certain pony are still out there, and the more that are opened...
Ultimately it's your ponies and your choice. I would've probably opened sugarbelle out of those 2 (though if they were mine, I wouldn't have, at all).
Sorry if I'm sounding harsh, I just really love MOC ponies, especially g2s xD

Whichever one is least rare, or is there one where the box is in poor shape/peeling/faded/damaged? Maybe that one.
I will admit I've never done this with ponies, but I have with Shimmers and there is NOTHING like that brand new-out-of package hair and color- the ones you buy loose will have tiny flaws from handling... there is a difference...
They go back into their cards for storage. However, it does DRASTICALLY reduce the resell value, so don't open if there is even the slightest chance you aren't going to keep them for ever and ever...

Picking between the two -I'd probably decard Princess Crystal if you're planning to get a loose one already. G2 tinsel can be a nightmare to deal with once it's been handled improperly, and on some of the ponies it seems to break rally easily. By decarding the pony yourself you won't have to deal with that since you will be the only one to have handled her tinsel. I also seem to see her come up for sale cheaper and more often than Sugarbelle.

Oh dear, I feel that I owe some of you an apology. I never anticipated such a wide range of opinions!
In the end, I couldn't help myself-- I decarded Crystal! Thankfully, her bubble was already a little loose on top as it was, so it's still in good condition. Thanks, everyone, for providing your input even if I didn't do what you'd hoped.
