*points to sig* I think its time to dump photobucket. Ive had it for...geeze...15+ years? And now they've done something that I think will be making 99% of their users leave.
So im looking into another image hoster. What do you use? I need space for my art/pictures and organization
-
Does this have anything to do with why I'm seeing "please update your account to enable 3rd party hosting" more and more the past few days here in the arena? I have not been able to see lots of photos here lately.
-
If you have a Yahoo account, you have Flickr. You just associate the two. :) Um. I am not sure what I am going to do either, except not post as much stuff online.
-
I just signed up with Flickr - it seems to be ok, just took me a while to figure it out! But I think that's just me, my IT skills are pretty rubbish!
-
*sigh*. I'm having the same problem with Photobucket.
I'm going to need to move my photos over the Flickr.
-
I just signed up to Imgur by recommendation of my husband since that's what he uses
-
I use Imgur, it's pretty simple to use.
-
I also recommend Imgur!
-
imgur, i've stopped using photobucket years ago. they've recently decided that you need to start paying a fee. someone was saying that photobucket basically said pay the $400 or don't see images on your forum again.
so yeah you can upload for free to photobucket, but now you have to pay to show them anywhere

This, yeah. A bunch of people pretty much exploded on PI about it. Said we had til the 20th...I guess they started early.
How is Imgur for organization and space?
-
Yes Photobucket is a thing of the past for a lot of us, as of right now. They decided to disable third-party hosting in hopes of making the money that their advertising isn't doing.
PB isn't really trying to hit people who use forums or share their personal photos, like you and me. There are big companies out there that use photobucket for THOUSANDS of images when they sell items on Amazon.com or ebay.com. Photobucket is trying to hit these companies, the big boys who won't mind paying $400 a year if it means they don't have to re-do thousands of items for sale on those sites.
Imgur as far as I'm aware does not allow you to create an account and store photos for personal use, the way photobucket does? Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think with Imagur you just upload a photo/image and you have to save the URL. It doesn't get erased but it doesn't save itself to a certain account, either.
I gave in and just bought a domain for hosting my photos. -_- I dunno if this might be a temporary thing with PB, maybe they'll go back on their plan if there's enough negative backlash, but I'm not waiting around to see because that might take a long time to sort itself out.

This isn't quite true. You can have an account with imgur and manage your images with albums, etc. I don't have one so I can't speak about the interface.
you can also upload an image to imgur without an account and that only stays up for 6months. (basically a quick share)
-
Oh thanks for the clarification banditpony, sounds like I overheard info about the two different versions of uploads and thought they were the same thing.
-
But I can share the photo with others with a link, whenever I want to, right? (not just when you upload)

Yes.
You can share an image at anytime.
If you don't have an account you'll need to bookmark the url.
If you have an account you can browse your images and grab the code like any other image hosting site.
-
I guess I'll be switching to DA's Sta.sh for some things... I gave up on ImageShack a long time ago and kind of stopped using Photobucket because it was laggy. I use Gyazo for quick share of things but after x amount of time you cannot access those photos again till you pay a subscription.
Google has Google Photos but I haven't tried it... though I know I have been able to get photo links for Google drive and Microsoft's onedrive but really haven't had a need to do so... I really dislike yahoo so I don't have their image uploader...

Yep I just looked at Imgur and there is a place where you can sign up. You can register with social media or just flat out create an account XD

I was going to make post about this. Time to check Imgur.
-
I've never used photobucked. I opened a private, password protected side blog on tumblr that I post images to and just link from there
-
Is it possible to make a sub folder on ingur?
Im still trying ot get used to things. I don't like how they have most popular on the front page.

Photobucket looks broken now... which is bad for me because my profile has some adopts on it that I needed to grab...

Yeah it sucks. Actually I think Photobucket did that on purpose... Every time I try to save an image there, it saves to my computer as a broken image. It did that right after they announced they would be charging people for 3rd party hosting.

terrible I wonder if it's even worth contacting them.. which I doubt I can
Edit: ok the site is working again... but I have a feeling it's going to break once more at some point
-
When you save images from photobucket to your computer, can you look at them on your computer? Or is it a broken image? Now I'm wondering if it's my computer and not pb at all...
-
I was hoping to find answers in this thread to my image hosting probs now that PB has gone rogue, but I'm still confused!!
Post Merge: July 29, 2017, 04:34:52 PM
ETA: I have started a Flickr account but stupid PB won't let me remove any of my photos.
-
I just signed up for Imgur. It's great so far! No pesky ads popping up 3 times....or at all so far.
-
I just signed up for Flickr. Their free account is pretty generous. Up to 1TB of image capacity, with images allowed of up to 200MB each. For reference, the images I usually upload are like 10MB. AND, you can embed images on third party sites for free, as far as I can tell.
Here's a test image to see if it works. Can everyone see this?
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

I can see it!

I use Imagebam for image hosting. Haven't really had an issue with it. @PinkRockSugar, your image isn't there anymore it seems.

I think it broke because I moved the image to an album on my flickr. Can you see it now?

Nope. Says "This photo is no longer available".
-
PinkRockSugar, I see the original image posted, but am getting no longer available for the quoted version. Weird. O_o
For those wanting to download their album from PB, SuzFrom Texas on troublefreepool.com said you should be able to do it:
"You can download your entire library of images by selecting Library on Photobucket, and then the download album link under actions."
I'm thinking I'll be doing this once I've my computer back up and running. If I recall right, I don't have photos of all the customs I've made saved on my computer anymore, and I definitely want those. :awake:

My images seem to be fine after downloading them off of PB
I still have not decided what to switch to though... I want a place where my stuff can be private but I can still link to it

Imgur is great. I started using them instead of Photobucket a year ago (I forget why, but Photobucket was getting hard to navigate with whatever device I was using) and it's been awesome. It's free, and you can make a private account so that the general public can't see your images. It's easy to upload and there are no ads. It even gives you the links you'd need for many purposes -- websites, message boards, etc. I sound like a paid advertisement or something, lol, but I've really been happy with that site. I'm not sure what the image limit is, but so far I have maybe 100 photos in my account and it's not complained. I don't make sub-folders myself so can't speak on that and can't remember if you can; I just leave my photos organized by upload date.

Yeah Imgur is a great one, it's what I use. There is no image limit! I've got 2,552 on my account! There are limits on the file size of images you can upload, but no limit on how many images that you can put on there.

What's the limit on file size and can you put animated images on there?
-
What's the limit on file size and can you put animated images on there?
20MB for normal images, 200MB for gifs.

I'll think about it, I do need to get something soon

Weird, I can see the image PinkRockSugar posted before it was quoted.
-
Just signed up with Imgur... now just kind of waiting for the verification email
-
What photo sharing website do people use now that PhotoBucket has changed? :what:
[merging with existing thread ~ Kiwi]

Can you make an image or album private on Imgur? Or will anyone without the links/ embedded to another site be able to see it?

I have an imgur account and yes you can make them private. I haven't heard anyone able to view them. Plus I haven't found any sort of limitation either :)

Yes you can. It's the default option on the website, although on the mobile app the default option is to make it public so you have to select private.
