Title: Other toy conventions?
Post by: Stellaluna on June 23, 2018, 06:20:55 PM
It was really fun to see other childhood favorites pop up at the pony fair like Care Bears, Wuzzles, Fluppy Dogs, Strawberry Shortcake, etc. Does anyone happen to know of any events in the United States that are general girl's toy fairs or conventions. My friend really loves collecting Care Bears and it would be great if we could find any event that would give us more opportunity to interact with other collectors. Any information is a big help! Thanks!

I'm going to move this over to the Toy Box forum.

Thank you. I wasn't sure where to put it.

I've heard there's a Jem related one.

Thanks for the tip! After finding information about that one I want down the rabbit hole to find more toy conventions. I edited my original post to include a list and links.

More suggestions welcome!

"Girl's" Toy
JEM - JemCon
Breyer - BreyerFest
Littlest Pet Shop(Hasbro) - LPScon
Barbie - BarbieCon
My Little Pony - PonyFair

I know you put "girl" under quotation marks but I don't think Breyers should be considered toys. And Breyers have been marketed to both boys and girls over the years even though most collectors are female so I still don't think it should be there. Just a nitpick of mine.

Breyers are playable...just expensive. And they'd definitely go under neutral.

Agreed. Although some special runs are definitely not toys

Okay, I know what you mean. The lists were really for my own benefit but I guess I'll just start making it a general list instead of boy/girl since other people might use this.

As far as Breyers not being toys, I wouldn't go as far as to say that. They're well made model horses, but still sold at toy stores. So they are to some degree intended for kids to play with. If my mom knew about them when I was a kid, that's probably the horse toy she would've wanted for me because she doesn't like toys that have any motion or sounds.

Yeah. We played with our Breyers as kids.

Yeah. We played with our Breyers as kids.

I did too (and still do in a way- showing, photographing, and putting tack on them.) Breyers can be toys if you want to use them that way but I just have a hard time calling Breyerfest a "toy convention"

Basically I look at it like this; As long as I'd be welcome there even if I just collect the toys, I figure I can still enjoy it as a type of toy convention but with a lot of extra bonus stuff as well.
