Title: Can anyone tell me more about this Retro G1 Notepaper box?
Post by: Ponyfan on May 10, 2019, 03:22:42 PM
Hi,

I bought this from another MLP collector and was hoping someone might have some more information on it. I love the scene on the front. :)

Here's a pic of it on the wiki (not my pic) http://mylittlewiki.org/wiki/File:RetroNotes.jpg

It is made by Neca and has a copyright date of 2003. I think that's also the copyright date on the Windy Wings address book.

I'm not sure how much more there is to say about it...

Neca got a license to make retro MLP items in the early 2000s and this is one of them. They made a lot of stationery-type stuff with the vintage art, and they also made the Applejack and Sundance bobble-heads.

The image used on the box is a detail from the Y2 line panorama, although mirrored for some reason. I'm not sure where the Sundance image on the notepaper is from, but Neca used it on a lot of their MLP paper products.

There was a very brief blip around 2003 where a lot of retro pony items were being made.  I found most of the items a Hot Topic at the time.  I’m not sure if they were all made by the same company, but a lot of stuff came out all at once.  Around this time there were several items including a purse, some adult sized pink underpants, some stationary sets, a desk top trash can, a few tshirts, some tins of candy, and two bobble-heads(Applejack and Sundance).

For a while, Hot Topic had a decent G1 pony selection!  I think it only lasted about a year though.  It was right about the time that G3s first came out.

I have it!  The papers have an almost watermark style print of Sundance(I think) in pale blue on the front, and the backs are plain white.

Thanks everyone. :) My box is still sealed so I didn't know Sundance was on the notepad paper.
