I held my breath as I scrolled down...looks like none of the TRUs in my area are closing. I can't decide if I should be happy they'll still be within driving distance, or sad that I'm not gonna score those sweet, sweet clearance deals. :drunk:
It was probably wise of them to wait until after the fourth quarter wrapped up. Perhaps Christmas sales ended up more than covering operating costs for the past few months.
I'm surprised at the one in Colorado closing. It's a new store built only about 5 years ago moved from down the road to be an anchor for that shopping center.
Oo, I'm actually not in that area but interesting. Thank you for the heads up, anyway!I held my breath as I scrolled down...looks like none of the TRUs in my area are closing. When I was looking at the ones in NY, I noticed there was a PA one mixed in: the one in Williamsport, PA is closing. So I don't know if you caught it or what part of PA you're in, but that was an error I noticed in the list.
I only went to the park meadows one a couple times but it wasn't very busy at all compared to havana. I almost wonder it they are favoring keeping older locations, but you are probably right about mall proximity.I'm surprised at the one in Colorado closing. They're keeping the one by Park Meadows and the Babies R Us out by Southlands. I wonder if the Mississippi one didn't manage to pull in enough for the shopping center compared to the proximity-mall locations?

Not sure if this is true but I heard they are planning on closing 200 more stores on Good Morning America this week.
I went into the BRU that is closing near me. The sign outside says 40% off in HUGE letters, but when you get closer it says 'up to' in ant print. So I walked through the store and everything is 20% off. If you were serious about moving this stuff you should really give people a better discount. I walked right out. 20% is barely worth anything, especially when their mark up on some items is ridiculous. So basically they have learned nothing from this restructuring - LOL! Entities who claim bankruptcy rarely do.The prices some stores hold are ridiculous. They are still trying to stay afloat, though, so I can see why they would be hesitant to lower their prices. If they don't sell a lot at this location, I think they would just ship it to more locations for people who would be willing to pay the higher prices. Once they say they're going out of business, THEN the real liquidation sales begin and we get to lap it all up.
With the two TRUs that closed near me (well, 'near', they're both like an hour away, but, you know), they didn't start on the serious price reductions until they were closer to closing up shop. Maybe it'll be the same for the US stores?
Oh man, that sounds bad. Their online store is HORRIBLE. I try not to go on there unless I absolutely have to. I have told them several times that it is their prices that get them in trouble. Why would you go to TRU and spend $2-8 more for Barbie clothes. Sometimes their mark up is insane. I can get the same stuff at Target for a lot cheaper.
No articles have been mentioning the price, but even when I was little my mother would protest when I said I wanted to shop there because the prices are pretty up there compared to Target and Walmart, both of which are just easier to access. They also have the convenience of not completely relying on toys to make their sales and cover costs, and they both have exclusives around the holidays.Oh man, that sounds bad. This is what I believe is killing them. People like to get up in arms over kids only being interested in their screens but Toys R Us is probably the most expensive place I've ever been to. Even their outlet stores are expensive. The ONLY reason I shop there is for "exclusives", I can get way better deals at other stores. Why waste the money?
annnnnnnnnnnnnd more bad news: the store closures are not likely to stop, and furthermore, ALL of the TRU USA stores could be liquidating soon:Yep, I just read an article that said all TRU stores will be closing. But as everyone has already said, I almost never shop there because of the prices... and Target is more convenient.

No stores have been closed by the Administrators and all sites are currently open for trading. The store
closure plan implemented as part of the CVA will continue. The Administrators will manage the store
trading strategy whilst also evaluating the options regarding the company’s future and determining how
to obtain the best possible outcome for all creditors. It remains to be decided if some or all the stores will
be closed.
UKers don't need to worry too much just yet about losing TRU completely. From a member of staff on their facebook:QuoteNo stores have been closed by the Administrators and all sites are currently open for trading. The store

I will be honest, I had my suspicions that they wouldn't be completely closing every store from the very start of the announcement (based on several observations), and I still don't think they will.
I didn't get them for that. Just 20% off (the signs did say ALL MLP's under $17).
I am just sad for all the workers losing their jobs.
Does anyone know if closing stores are selling off displays and shelves? I really want a Geoffrey Giraffe costume if I can find it locally.Your best bet is to call the store (whichever near you are closing) as soon as they begin their sales. I remember when Borders went under we snagged 2-3 shelves for $100 each, which was a neat price apparently. I'd imagine they'd be likely to sell as many assets as they can, but try to be the first person to buy it if they are!
Step 1: Actually get the on the phone before the line disconnects. It keeps ringing and then changes to beeping like it lost connection without ending the call.Does anyone know if closing stores are selling off displays and shelves? Thanks for letting me know. I wish I knew people closer to closing stores cuz I'm 30-60 minutes away from a handful.I am an hour from my nearest one too. Sucks that they are not answering the phone anymore. That is kind of bizarre, I think.
I'm not surprised since I used to run customer service desk. You were expected to run both checkout sides of the desk and the phones all at the same time. This kind of news you can't keep up with the phone and check people out at the same time! Thanks for letting me know. One of the guys I have talked to for years said they are still getting trucks, which is weird. They had to hire people to come in just to unload them because they are so short staffed.

Not really weird. All the stuff from the warehouses has to come out and get sold too ;)

Imagine them finding a box of TE and adding a few MOC Mimics to the market. XD
The one in Savannah, GA is closing. It's very sad. My friend and I walked around it for a bit, and it looks like the employees aren't concerned about tidiness anymore. (Heck, I wouldn't if I knew I was going to be laid off.) Strange thing is, the sales are only 10% off on everything. Maybe they're not concerned about getting rid of it all and are planning on shipping any leftovers to remaining stores?
Often prices that say they're good through a certain date, just means they won't go up until that date, but they can still go down. Toys R Us will be gone by June, as they were only promised 60 days of operation.
I asked the manager of my local store (finally) and he said that the marketing displays will go back to their vendors. I want the Geoffrey Giraffe costume so he suggested I fill out a form for buying one of the fixtures via the liquidation company (racks, registers, etc.) which are after the checkstands, at least at my store.
Imagine them finding a box of TE and adding a few MOC Mimics to the market. XDI would place an actual bet that they have boxes and boxes full of G 3.5s in their warehouses. When my Kmart closed a few years ago (it was the one of the last Kmarts to close) they had never started getting G4s -- they just had piles and piles of G 3.5s left over. And I still didn't buy them...
I hope the sales drop soon, I'd like to see how long I can go without my store selling out of the 12 pack so I can get it at the lowest possible price!Pony stuff at mine went down to 20% off and they have like 10 of them.
Mine's gone :(
Good luck to everyone hunting for bargains <3
Has anyone been to their local TRU this week and if so, what are the sales at right now? The one in my town is still open. I'm trying to decide what the last toy I ever buy from a Toys-R-Us store will be. I think I might get a Breyers horse. I've never had one, and they're so pretty one could easily be a nice shelf decoration for the living room.
4 months ago, I saw a G3 at TRU:
visitors can't see pics , please register or login
I'd love to see more G3s pop up (G1s would be so amazing, but I doubt that will happen). I noticed a G3 Toola Roola dress up on Target's website and it lists a small number of stores as having her, but I don't know if it's accurate. My Little Ponies are still only 10% off at my TRU.

Good news for Canadians! Their TrU is here to stay!

oooohhh I wonder if some of the toys that were planned to be exclusive to TRU US but were never released, will show up at TRU Canada.. that'd be nice, there's a TRU exclusive Funko blind bag I've been keeping an eye out for and I've been wondering where it'll turn up.

I thought Funko redistributed most of their TRU exclusives, with the ones that they couldn't find an alternative channel ending up on their online store?
Well... I'll believe it when I see it.
Went to a Halloween store on Monday that was a BRU :/ it felt so odd since all the signage was up, and the makeshift "Halloween and toy store" randomly in the middle with make shift shelving and like 70% of the lights were turned off.
We have been going to TRU across the border (Canada). It is tinier than the one we are used to, but still fun to be able to go. You could fit the St. Catherine's TRU inside the baby side of our old TRU. It was huge!
So does that mean if you buy ponies they have to get through passport control and have their hoofprints taken? :)
