Title: Which Ponies Should Be Posed Differently?
Post by: Ragamuffin on July 23, 2019, 09:27:26 PM
I was thinking about how much I like Locket, but don't like the Dancing Butterflies pose because the hair blocks out the symbol easily. But then I thought about Sweet Stuff too. Sweet Stuff comes off as dainty, and the Gingerbread pose always looked more masculine to me. It fits Gingerbread fine, but it would've been cute to see Sweet Stuff in a shyer pose. And Fizzy I think would've been cute in a more playful pose like Mimic's!

Which ponies do you think don't match their pose at all, or what kind of alternate poses would you like to see them in?

I know a lot of people feel that way about Lemon Drop...

Surprise's pose never fit her.

I think Parasol is lovely in her shy pose, but I always thought she'd look stunning in the Posey/trotting pose. I could be sorely tempted to get her in a custom like that one day...  :satisfied:

Oh goodness, yes, you nailed it with Lemon Drop. It's always bugged me that a showjumper should be in that pose. I'd have liked to see her in a walking pose. I'm still tempted, one day, if I find a suitably wrecked Posey.

As a kid I always hated the Tootsie pose and wanted CJ and Snowflake to be in other poses. Also Magic Star. Now I don't hate it at all, and Magic Star has another pose, and I don't like it as much...so I guess I came to terms with that one.

I like the Dancing Butterflies pose, it's dainty and elegant to me - though you are right about the hair arrangement issue with display.

I think I would probably just re-pose all the collector pose ponies, though. Especially the birthflowers - so they all had DIFFERENT poses to make them unique.

Actually yeah... THAT would have been cool!

And you could tell from a glance in an ebay auction which one it was in a lot rather than squinting at a blurry symbol hidden behind someone else's tail and then making a wild guess xD.

Agree on Lemondrop!

I've also never been a huge fan of the Tootsie pose and I think Tales Bright Eyes, for example, would look much better in another pose. IMO she'd look great in the same pose as Patch! I really like that pose and I think it was way underused by Hasbro. It's a bit odd that they decided to repeat the shy pose and the Posey pose... to add some variety, I'd love to see one of the ponies in the Rapunzel pose, Melody perhaps. :)

And speaking of Rapunzel... she would look lovely in the Bride pose!

I actually love the Rearing pose! I'd love to see some more active ponies be done in it. Perhaps they could have put some extra weight into the bottom hooves to make it stand without the stand.
Shady should have been in the shy pose.

I could list so many (and I might, later), but the first pony that comes to mind is Pillow Talk. :pillow: She would look so much better in Sundance's pose. It's sweet and soft and dreamy, whereas her actual pose looks so arrogant and distant.

I would love a 2nd pose for all the G1 ponies.  I have no idea why but it makes me gleeful when ponies in the same pose are lined up next to each other.

But, even though I love Flutterbye's pose... I think I would rather see her in Paradise's pose.   Actually, I think I would like to see all the pegasis ponies in a pose that doesn't have their heads turned.

I'd love to see Starglow in the Firefly or Surprise pose. I'm not a big fan of the pose she's in.
Also, Sundance in the Posey Pose.

Well, even the least liked poses have their fans, so its all subjective but:

The Collector Posed Ponies. I do not like that pose at all personally.

Snuzzle-I think she'd look cute on the Posey or Tootsie pose
Butterscotch- I'd say the Crumpet, Bowtie or Truly pose.
Minty-The Truly, Bubbles or Bunny Hop pose.
Bluebell-I think she'd look good on the Bowtie or Gingerbread pose.
Blossom-The Bride pose would be super cute!
Peachy-The Tootsie pose.
Cotton Candy-The Gingerbread or Bubbles pose.
Lemondrop-The Sugarberry pose.

Mimic,  Moondancer and Milky Way:
Moondancer-The Glory or Gusty pose.
Mimic-The Powder Pose.
Milky Way-Buttons Pose.

Baby Frosting-The Baby Glory pose.

Sea Light and Sea Mist-The Sand Dollar pose.

Queen Rosedust-The Honeysuckle or Cloudpuff pose.
Hollywood-The Honeysuckle pose.

Speaking of Firefly, I like that the movie version used the Surprise pose. I wish a similar thing had been done with Medley. I would love to see her in the Surprise pose, Paradise one or the Dancing Butterflies one. The original is fine but I am not a huge fan. Knowing it's the first ever pegasus pose is nice, but it's a little jerky and the front leg is annoying.

Unfortunately Hasbro didn't love Medley as much as Firefly, so those remain pipe dreams of mine :)

I'd quite like to see Moondancer in the Gypsy pose as well. Peruvian Glory looks very good in it (I think she's peruvian) too, but it would be nice to see Moondancer in that style.

I like the Rosedust pose, but for some reason Morning Glory reminds me of kermit the frog in it. I have no idea why, but I can't shake the image from my head.

I prefer it to the Cloud Puff pose, though, personally.

@LAW - totally agree, walking pose for Hollywood all the way.

I'd like to see Truly and Skippety Doo in non-rearing poses. I'm not sure which.

Also...Shady would look cute in the shy pose, but I feel like her actual pose suits her UK character best so I'd be happy for the SS to go shy and the movie star to stay as she is. Different poses for the SS and movie ponies would make life easier for everyone anyway, identifying deflocks.

The BBE ponies should all be in NBBE poses, ha ha ha.

I'm not a big fan of the Tootsie pose, Powder pose or Moondancer pose.  I think the Gypsy pose would have worked better for Moondancer.  I also think that the Bubbles pose would have been cute if it was used a few more times.

all ponies in the dancing butterflys pose, its my least fav but i do have and love tiffany and blueberry basket but that pose bugs the heck out of me, so i would own dancing butterflys and locket too otherwise.

also would love if quackers was in a different pose, such a weird pose for a toy pony to be in but i like her theme so i have the baby ;) to me its a perfecly good waist of a TE pony, also in that pose i would be interested in love letter and cranberry muffins

The BBE ponies should all be in NBBE poses, ha ha ha.

YES, lol, this very much

I know they never made one, but a sitting baby pose would be super cute.

In general, though, I'm happy with almost all the poses.  To me the pose is part of the pony's personality . . . way more than whatever they were like on the TV show or whatever.  Moondancer is Moondancer because she's in the pose she's in . . . she looks calm and wise.

I do have a couple exceptions, though.   I feel like Lemon Drop would benefit from a more active pose because she came with all those jumps.  Like the Scoops pose or Posey pose.  I think the Precious Pocket pony poses are kind of strange because I don't get why they're so big?  Would rather have them more in scale with the other ponies.

I also wish the Soda Sippin' ponies . . . didn't have that mouth-hole thing.  Which I guess kind of counts as "I wish they were in a different pose"?  Like, just include a soda and have them pretend to drink it.  That would be way better than a hole drilled in their face, especially since most kids lost the soda.

That would have been interesting! I wonder why they didn't make unicorn and peg shs...maybe too hard with the slender pose?

That is such a good idea re: Posey and Lemon Drop (pauses to make notes)

For me... it is Mimic and all ponies in that break neck pose. I feel sorry for those ponies who can do nothing but stare at the sky all day long. Never can they chat with their friends. Why? Too busy staring Up There. I would prefer Mimic to have been in TAF Buttons' pose - oh yes!

I forgot this till Ponyfan mentioned it but Bubbles and Seashell need standing poses for me. Dislike the sitting pose, it is so impractical.

Seashell for the shy pose as she had that kind of personality. Bubbles in the walking or CJ pose I guess as she was more outgoing.  Though I think the walking pose would suit Seashell's colour scheme too.

G4s. The Mishmash Poses is what they all shoulda been in, bar the wings. G4 wings are the nicest thing about this gen.

Didn't Seashell fling around a sea pony who wouldn't let go of her hair? I say Sugarberry pose then. Because it evokes images of cantering along the shore.

*sees mention of seashell*  :woot:

Even though I adore the sitting pose and think Seashell looks fantastic in it, I do wish she were also released in a more neutral pose like the tootsie pose or the *gasp* collector's pose. Those two would be good for collecting shells in the afternoon.

The story that springs to mind for me with her is the Stolen Shadow, of which she is basically the star who has...well...her shadow...stolen...>.> and then has to go rescue it while avoiding ending up in the whatever it is of forgetfulness (see, I can't remember >.>) where she'd forget all about ponies...

Rosette.  Dear lord, Rosette!  She’s a gorgeous pony, except for being in Tootsie’s pose!  I hate that pose.  It nearly ruins any pony that’s stuck with it.  Pretty much any pony in that pose really, but Rosette’s orange/yellow color scheme is so unique and pretty, she’d be a spectacular pony in a different pose.

I have a hard time wth Dancing Butterflies pose as well.  I looks like she broke her neck.

Not really a fan of Toosies pose, Shadys pose or the reversed shy pose (like strawberry surprise)

And the BBE babies. Not just the eyes that are weird. the poses are too!

I think G3 Moondancer, Pepperberry and Crystal Crown would look darling on the Sunny Daze pose. I can live with the Sweetberry pose, but its not a favorite.

I'd like Tangerine Sunset to be on the Fizzy Pop or Valenshy pose. I can't stand that pose. She's such a pretty, vibrant pony too, its a shame.

Alphabittle, Toboggan, Autumn Crisp and Bubblecup would look much better on the Daffidazy and Precious Gem poses.

I wish they'd made more then 4 poses for the unicorns, and I wish they'd made all the unicorns. 8 is too few. And while  I'm wishing, I wish G3 had made baby unicorns.

Overall I am not very fond of the early years poses, maybe except for the Bow Tie pose which I actually think is very adorable (ironically, I also believe that the ponies from that time had the best animated desings), I especially dislike those weird poses that make it impossible to put a costume on the pony, like Firefly or Bubbles pose, that is also why I prefer the Firefly that came with the Rescue at Midnight Castle VHS tape.

I basically agree with this.

<--kid who used to dress her pegasus ponies in ponywear in defiance of the cards that said they didn't fit pegasus ponies.

It's possible to dress Bubbles and Seashell in dress type outfits. Medley and Firefly, Sprinkles...I admit defeat.

I love Medley and always will. But I wish she'd had a better pose.
