Title: Do we still do Pullips?
Post by: brightberry on July 04, 2020, 08:44:12 PM
I remember they used to have a following here and I wonder if any one else still loves them?  I'm so excited that my Pullip KUROMI is arriving sometime this month.  I ordered her months ago and I love having at least one fun thing to look forward to.

In December, my husband ordered me a Pullip for Christmas.  She arrived just a couple of weeks after the pandemic started.  Hilarious timing I guess.  My family thought it was great.

Here are most of them.  The others are placed strategically around the house.

So show off your Pullips! Or, what's left of them.

I'm still too poor for the full size girls, but I love my minis. I really wish they still sold them. Been thinking of getting a knockoff to try and customize. Dunno if I ever will though.

Brightberry, that girl with the face mask is the only new release I was relly into and then I saw her price and did a double-take. Huge congrats on getting her! :)

I used to have five Pullips: Meg, Bloody Red, Naoko, Peter Pan and a Mocca MiO. I recently gave Meg away because I realised I needed to cut down a bit but she sure was one sweet little dolly.
Problem with Pullip these days is that they have become such an expensive brand. Don't get me wrong, they were never cheap, but I am under the impression prices keep getting higher.

Rant ahead where I am not being nice about Pullip, so please ignore if you are still a big fan:

Spoiler
Thinking back, I got my Bloody Red and my Meg both complete for 80€ pre-owned in box. I thought they'd be my most expensive dolls ever. Then came Naoko that I reveived as a get-well gift from my family and was 120€ x__x

I simply can't justify this hobby anymore. If I had to take all my pets to the vet at once it would be cheaper. That's the epiphany I had a while ago.
I also hate how they seemingly stopped with the MiO kits. Probably because they were selling like hot cakes and people would rather make their own than buy an overpriced lolita pile of cloth with a stained doll underneath so sewn into her dress that taking it off at least once would ruin it all. Yes, I am bitter. I am glad Isnagged a Mocca one before everything vanished.

Pullip is kinda like Integrity to me. Only the rich can afford keeping up with them and that's why the line got taylored to suit this elite circle of collectors wants and needs. I miss when Pullip had chracters like the lesbian mechanic with dreads, the love detective or the goth mermaid in a top hat. Now it's pastels and cake dresses out the wazoo and brand collab after brand collab. Not my speed. But I know people are still loving it, so I'll just step back in silence and let them enjoy all those powderpuff characters and Sanrio gijinkas while I am concentrating again on making my own characters with their own styles.

Hannah, Awww! Your girl is too cute! I love her dress and hair.

Thimble, I love the littles! I have a few from Tuesday Morning.  They are so cute.

Zapper, I know what you mean when you say expensive.  I try to limit mine to gothy types but even that is costly and I have to hold out for my very favorites.  A few of mine are actually Tuesday Morning finds as well as sample dolls from Groove USA.

I did see that PullipStyle.com has more Make It Own and some nude dolls for sale.  I don’t know if you’ve seen them.

Kcherry, I’d love to see yours too.  I have Peter Pan and a nude doll (from here) that I’ve redressed and rewigged several times:

I still haven’t come up with shoes for the pink haired girl yet.

I actually started collecting them fairly recently, just this year! AmiAmi sells them and that's where I buy most of my anime figures, which makes it easy to obtain new Pullips since I can preorder them over there just like I do my figures. I've got these so far:

https://myfigurecollection.net/item/1001827
https://myfigurecollection.net/item/960393

(also https://myfigurecollection.net/item/141971 who I got a couple years ago at Tuesday Morning)

And I have this one preordered:

Wow!  I love your new girls.  And I’ve been considering pre-ordering Keres.  I love her dark feels.

I really miss looking for Pullips at Tuesday Morning.  I found several actually.  Those were the days.

I can’t afford pullips anymore! I may get another couple of used ones in future, but I adore my two. Akemi was my xmas present in 2018 from my parents, she came nude with no stock, but in lovely shape  ^.^ and Peter Pan, who I got in 2016, also as a gift  ^.^

If I could get any more I would love to have Eileen, Rovam, Kaela and Celsiy
Here are my two!

Aw, Sunsparkle... yours are adorable.  I love how you redressed them.  Peter Pan has such beautiful eyes.  I had zero interest in Pullips until I saw her in person.  Too cute for words.

I agree that the price has gone up way too much. I used to get quite a few releases per year but it's hard to justify $150+ for one doll. I also have A LOT of the older dolls so space is a factor. I usually decide to keep my older girls vs getting new releases for these reasons.

That said, I did preorder Sherbet and My Melody, lol. (Come on Pullipstyle, where's my Sherbet?)

@SummerSkye  I saw that PullipStyle was shipping Sherbet on facebook! I hope yours comes soon.  I told myself I wouldn't get her because she wouldn't match the others.  But, she's hard to resist.  Her face-up is so pretty.  Maybe next year.

They’re going to re-release Pullip Seila!

She’s been a wish list item for me for years. It would be nice to finally have her.  I am hoping that her hair won’t get too frizzy.

I was just looking at Pullipstyle the other day. I would still love to get Akemi, but I just can't justify the price of Pullips anymore. The quality just isn't there. Its a shame because Pullips were my favorite dolls for so many years.

I agree that they just are not very good quality! The leg pegs break, the shoes break and the eyes always break!

The quality makes me afraid to touch my Sasha Sorc at all - if her body breaks I have no idea where to get a replacement!

When I got my only Taeyang in 2009, his foot was broken out of the box. At this point I may just try selling him if I can figure out where to do it; eBay prices are ridiculous and all of the old Pullip forums I used to frequent seem to be gone.

I would love to rebody my Ala but last time I tried there weren't any bodies that match her skintone. Its a beautiful color but makes me so paranoid about damaging her fragile body.
