Title: Ended Toy lines? + looking for newly released toy lines!
Post by: freezestime on April 10, 2019, 06:41:17 PM
Hi friends!

I stumbled upon some season 2 twozies in a Reject Shop and it reminded me of a few other Toy lines that I had forgotten (and maybe the general public too?) They were Shibajuku girls (Not a fan of them) and something along the line of Minxies.

Edit: a friend recommended that although the lines aren't around anymore, they're not forgotten so I'm changing it to ended!

Edit edit: Another friend recommended adding more info to each toy line so I'll be gradually doing that!

I'm wondering if anyone else remembers any more recent (2000-2020) ended toy lines? I'd like to make a list of ended ones and ones that may be be lost to the void of time.

Below section courtesy of MLP Sunsparkle!

Gotta dance girls - Tiger electronics - 2002
Dancing dolls which were controlled with a remote. Did not last long and only four different ones were made.

Keepsies - 2001 - Vivid imaginations
Very small line, only 3 different ones made it to production. Had batteries, A (Chloe) dog, (Millie) rabbit and (Sophie) cat were made. Came with a smaller item called a thingy. Which was/could be locked inside the compartment of the front.

Tiny secrets - FEVA? - 2005
Modern keypers with doll like heads. 3 produced

Totally glam stamps - 2008? - Moose?
Plastic accessories with stamps and ink, such as a playset with various (very messy) plastic stamps in the shapes of shoes and bags, like a boutique.

Nano eggs - Tomy - 2000s
Eggs with a scene inside, made small movements and sounds.

Magic Krysalix - Zaph Creation - 2010s
Caterpillar like creatures with hair that came with their own chrysalis shaped playsets that transformed into different things. (Potentially still available through wholesale websites but not on shelves). Likely extra stock.

Secret Central - Hasbro - 2003
Small dolls, based around school, they had a movie on dvd.

Microdancers - Tomy - 2003
All plastic dolls which responded to music and were designed after celebrities

My favourite babysitters - MGA - 2006
One larger (Barbies ish size?) babysitter doll and a smaller, toddler doll, don't know how many different ones were made.

Fairees - MGA - 2004
Small toddler dolls dressed as fairies, each with a different colour (hair and outfit match).

Trollz - Hasbro - 2004
Troll fashion dolls, interestingly some came with g3 combs or g1 original combs!

Doggie Daycare - Mattel - 2004
Series of playsets of babysitting dogs. They had a dvd with two short episodes on which was given away in various ways. Magnets allowed babies to hold onto sets and dogs. They were recalled in 2007 because the magnets could come out, some never did, but there were large piles of exposed metal filings all over them.

Pixel Chix - Mattel - 2005
A cross between a simple video game and a virtual pet, most sets were large houses.

Mystic Babies - 2008 - Mega
Colourful dragon babies with hair. Playsets were all egg shaped and could transform into egg or some kind of object.

Magic Merbabies - 2001 - vivid imaginations/Hasbro/Gigi
Mermaid baby dolls, each a few inches high, featuring a mer pet and colourful hair. Each came with ‘fizzy tints’ which coloured bath water.

Sugar planet - MGA - 2002
Small dolls with magnetic features that allowed them to move around small themed playsets.

This is me - TIM - 2006
13 inch tall fabric dolls, quite a few different ones produced.

Whirl Top Wonders - Playmates/It Irwin toys - 2002
Characters with petal skirts that fly out of flowers when launched. The look to be a similar idea to sky dancers.

Pets To Go - 1999/2000 - ?
A mix between Polly pocket, vintage lps and micro pets. They make sounds and movement, come with little pet care accessories, and come in wearable cases (watches, necklaces and a backpack). Internet search reveals nothing, only picture in spoiler below.

Lovable bears - 1999/2000 - (many makers) GP toys, vivid imaginations
They have many different names, and many lines were sold over the years. Bearable bears, lovable bears, love2love bears. Small flocked bears on keychains that were scented. Still produced today but by a different company and minor differences.

Lovable Singers - 2000/2001 - likely vivid imaginations?
Lovable bears, as above, with their arms out to the sides. They have magnets in their paws and connect to one another, and they sing when the magnets touch. Search returns nothing, picture below.

Smoochies - 1999 - TV Toys
6 inch plush toys, with sounds and light up cheeks.

Little Snoozems - 1990s to early 2000s - Happiness Express?
Large 17 inch plush animals in pyjamas. Seems to be a couple different sets.

Pozin Pals - 1998 to 2000? - TV Toys
Small animal plush with magnets in their paws. Many different ones made.

Maggie Raggie - early 2000s - Zaph Creation
Ragdolls that can be posed and can hold things using Velcro. Some later versions could sing?

Puppy Magic - early 2000s - Toy Biz
Features a mummy dog with her puppies. She has a special bark for each puppy and can recognise them. Many variations were released.

Me & my puppies - 2002 - ?
Soft toy puppies which make sounds and can wag their tails, at least 6 were made. Names I can make out (I kid you not) are: Dizzy, Flea bag, twitches and scoop.

Snubbies - early 2000s - ToyQuest
Small puppy (and later kitten) figures with large heads, playsets and talking plush were also produced.

GloE - early 2000s - Cepia?
Colourful plush animals that light up and act as a nightlight. 16 inch bears, 12 inch babies, and sparkle fairies, fabric dolls with glowing wings. One special bear with a storybook and a wand which changes the light pattern.

Fur berries - 2005/2006? - Spin Master
Fruit scented and themed animal plush which operate like popples - they start off as a fruit and pop open to reveal a cute plush with large eyes. 6 different ones were made.

Royal opera house ballet dolls - 2006/2007 - Aspirations/Golden Bear
Bendable all cloth ballerina dolls. Some versions had plastic heads and hands with inset eyes. They were named after famous ballets eg. ‘swan lake’. One had a stand which allowed her to twirl.

Lil Luvables Fluffy Factory - later 2000s - Spin Master
A build a bear style machine, you get the bear and use the machine to stuff it. I remember it taking a lot longer than the commercial showed, as you use a crank to do it yourself! Outfits, an accessory pack and new bear skins were released to ensure the machine didn’t become redundant after a few days.

Doodle Bears - 2005 - Jakks Pacific/Play Along?
Bears which you can draw on and then put in the washing machine to clean them off again. Ponies, pets, babies and girls were also released!

Rescue Pals - mid to late 2000s - MGA
Line of large eyed plush animals (mainly dogs) which could be ‘adopted’ and cared for. Some all plastic, moving toys were also released.

Micro Babies - 2003 - Tomy
Spin off of micropets, there are two sets, one lot of sitting babies and one lot of crawling babies. They interact with each other and come with a bottle (first set) or dummy (crawlers) each.

Crystal ponies - 2000s - Licensed from Genie to Moose
Colourful plastic pony figures with brushable tails, no idea how many made. Can only find a picture of a set of two, perhaps mother and foal. They came with dress up accessories and a comb.

Fashion Surprise Petz - late 2003? - licensed from Genie to Vivid Imaginations
Poseable dogs, cats and horses that came with earrings, clothes and brushable tails. Some of their names were Tara, Emilia, Nicole, Millie, Natasha (blonde dog) and Naomi. There were at least two playsets - a car and a fashion boutique.

Misstiques - 2004? - Moose
Set of 12 small plastic dolls, each based on a different style.

Tu Ta Bella - 2006 - Jakks Pacific
Small dolls with many accessories, some came with pets. A car and one larger playset released, called the Sleek Boutique (this was made by genie and licensed to Jakks, not sure on the rest of the line).

KeyTweens - Bandai - 2009
Small moulded doll figures. The bodies, trousers/skirts and heads can be swapped. Many different ones were made. Some were sold with an extra outfit, others were sold with a fold out playset.

T Neez - Bandai - 2005?
A large line of small dolls with many playsets. Dolls are moulded plastic, some with moulded hair and others with real hair. The dolls look to have magnetic features, like magnets in their feet.

Sweet Secrets - Vivid Imaginations/play along - 2008?
Small, 2 inch dolls with hair that each come in a container shaped as a lipstick. A purse shaped playset was also produced.

Twilight ponies - vivid imaginations - 2009
Hard plastic, small ponies with hair and glow in the dark hooves. Came with an animal friend and necklaces with a charm on them. One playset - magical midnight star palace was produced. It had a light inside to charge their hooves so they would glow brighter. Names are Wish, Surf, Blossom, Storm, Valentine, Sunbeam, Flying Twilight and Snowflake Treasure. Were either produced for a long time or shelf sitters, as they were still being offered in the 2010s. At least 8 different ponies produced.

Hot Trotz & Friendz - ? - 2000s
Ponies with removable shoes and accessories. They look odd when the shoes are removed as they have feathered hooves. At least Three were produced - purple with pink hair, pink with pink and chartreuse hair, and hot pink with chartreuse and Pink mane, with an orange tail. One purple one is shown with a pink paw print brush. The “& Friendz” points towards other animals or dolls being involved in the line, but sadly there is no information or pictures of anything but the loose ponies. They are stamped with the logo and made in China on their tummy, manufacturer unknown.

Just Grrls - Chicco - 2002
Dolls that came with many accessories and a locker with their name on. There were many produced and are still available quite cheaply secondhand (even mib) now.

Hairmonies - ? (Exclusive to ToysRUs) - 2012/2013?
Singing dolls which make noise when their hair is being brushed. Thermoooks to have been 3 produced; blonde, brunette and dark brown hair. They came with long hair, a “magic” brush that activated the singing, and some styling accessories. Their clothes are moulded on, with the exception of one fabric piece each (jacket, jumper and skirt respectively). Their feet are large and moulded together as one piece. It looks like their arms can move and may activate sounds or phrases.

Tini Puppini - Spin master - 2008
Large Plush dogs with clothes and accessories. They look to be possible to an extent (possibly wires inside) and they also had brushable hair. 3 were produced; Toffee (tan) Tisha (black/white) and Tutu (Brown/white). They had at least one playset, the sparklin salon. A carry bag and fashion packs were also made. I have seen toffee with either red or purple streaks in her hair so it’s possible there was a second wave too.

Little Cousins - Playmates - 2002
Dolls with very similar faces to galoob’s baby face dolls. There are many different dolls in the line (there seem to be 16), with each being around 8 inches in height. The faces may look alarming to some, as they have very piercing large eyes. Each doll had themed clothes and accessories some matching their name. They are: Parker pop star, Cassidy Cowgirl, Sophie Star, Sydney soccer, Amanda artist, Rachel campfire, Becca blossom, Brandey blades, Vanessa veterinarian, Paige Pom-Pom, Savannah belle, Sara schoolgirl, Scarlett skier, Bailey Beach, Bella ballerina, and Jenna jammies.

OOglies - Playmates - 1999
Interactive electronic pets with tails and extremely large, clear plastic eyes. They are likely based on furbies, speaking their own language “Ooglish”. They have a variety of different functions and sound effects, from laughing to answering questions. Each has a different theme and tail. Mini OOglies were also produced, these have keychains attached to them. Names are: hamhock, Mara-thon, cowlick, gridiron, gorlon, chicken tickle (what!?), splash, Hanchu, bump-along, kanian, Quinn, swandrea. I have also seen a pirate, baseball and fireman.

Blinkies - Playmates - 2000s
Odd, almost pear shaped plastic figures/pets? with moulded ponytails on top and a gem on their face. They have large eyes which are screens, looking a little spooky when turned off. As with most virtual pets, you need to keep them happy and entertained or they will become upset and/or sick. At least 6 produced: Blaze (Orange), Skye (blue), Perri (purple, commonly turns brown), Twink (yellow), Maxie (green), Zoe (pink). I have seen a couple others, purple with bright pink hair and purple with yellow hair, so it’s possible they came in different colours at some point.

B.F.F. (Best Friends Forever) - Playmates - 1999
Virtual friends (tamagotchi style). The one photo I could find shows a square case with a keychain on top, and what looks like a flip out screen. The back appears to be a container of sorts. Not much known - one post online states that two are Sheila and Ashley, with Michelle and Whitney being the other two. They come with accessories inside their cases that line up with their interests and personalities (lip gloss, comb, clips and mirror in fashionista Ashley’s, and paper and pencil in poet Sheila’s).

Lacies - Spin Master (also appear on F.E.V.A’s website?) - 2003
A series of dolls with brushable hair, moulded bodies and thread for their arms and legs. It looks like each has a design on their clothes that matched their name. Came with many beads, including letters to spell their name. The idea was to remove the hands and shoes, then add beads to decorate the arms and legs. The shoes and hands then worked to keep the beads on. At least 6 were made: (main hair colours in parentheses) Hip Hop heather (pink), Butterfly Brenna (teal), Star Staci (Orange), Flower Fiona (green), Rainbow Roxy (yellow), Glamour Gloria (blue).

Jaggets - famosa - 2000s
Large (around 16 inches tall) toddler dolls, each featuring a unique style. Some of their clothes are reversible to give each doll different styles instantly. Many different dolls and a few play/large accessory sets were released for them.

The G.U.R.L.Z - Irwin - 2002?
Interactive Robot/alien dolls that came with a pet. They look like they can be posed and will recognise when this has happened. According to the box, they seem to understand if they are upside down etc. and can tell you what poses they want to do. The dolls all have a small amount of brushable hair (pets have brushable tails) and come with a brush and hair clips. The pet could be plugged into them using their leash accessory and they would communicate with one another. At least 4 produced. They are (doll’s name, pet’s name respectively) Shishi and Kwak-up, Daloola and Mizoo, Zazi and Yazoo, Franika and Tiko.

The Beatrix Girls - popstar club inc. - 2013-15?
A band of 4 girls named Lark (red hair), Ainsley (blonde), Chantal (brunette), and Brayden (purple hair). They had a web series and even some songs on iTunes. Several sets of dolls produced, who all featured large heads and slightly angry looking eyebrows. Some of the original dolls came with their debut album on cd, along with a poster and stickers. Oddly, they were released without their instruments at first!

Below courtesy of Shaz!

Miss Party Surprise - Toybiz between 1999 and 2002.
Small plastic dolls with hair and poseable limbs. There was a Dance Party Friends pack, there was a little ballerina doll with pose able feet! There was also the Molly Make-Up Party Doll that came with this sort of giant skirt that opened up into a playset.

Smunchies - Lansay's.
These were late 90s but might have gone into the early 00s. Plush animals attached to scrunchies. They were made by a French company.

Lotta Littles - Company unknown.
They came in packs of teeny-tiny animals, there were cats, dogs, rabbits, horses etc. They often turn up in Puppy in my Pocket bundles on eBay though they're not actually related to the In My Pocket line.

Fairykins - Little tiny dolls made by Lanard, mid-2000s, sold with various accessories. There were mermaids with little fabric tails!

Magiki - 2010s, might still be going. Various blind bags made by De Agostini. They're usually little flocked figures, but sometimes they're just hard plastic. Examples are a pink bunny, some mermaids and a few fantasy ponies (pegasus, unicorn) over the years.

Animagic Rescue Hospital - Vivid Imaginations (need verification) around 2014.
Little animals sold in blind bags. They have 'injuries' which you can cure by putting them under cold (Maybe) water. They might be a new incarnation of the 90s Animal Hospital/Puppy in my Pocket line.

Pixy Punks - 2014. Monster High type dolls made exclusively for Wilko.

Mini Chou Chou - Made by Zapf, mid-2010s. Toddler baby dolls with little animal companions (birds and foxes mostly, I think). A bit like Enchantimals.

Ghoul Dolls - 2010s Monster High style dolls by Funtastic. They're small, about the size of a vintage Pippa/Dawn doll. A bit cheap-looking (their clothes are awful) but quite cute. Usually turned up in £1 shops.

Below courtesy of dragonlady!

Struts - 2008 - Playmates
Horses that came with high heels and outfits, articulated limbs, have detachable feet like Bratz.

I was thinking just the other day that Cutie Pops seem to have faded into obscurity pretty quickly. And that other one... La-Dee-Da? I think that was the name.

I don't see Lalaloopsy around much these days, either; not sure I'd call them "forgotten" just yet, though.

In Australia La La Loopsy has stopped being stocked on shelves but there's plenty of second hand ones floating about! I think La La Loopsy is pretty safe for now. I'll look into those names to see if they're online, but do you remember when those were out? Or what company?

Edit: Pics of them are abundant plus their info, so I'll add them to the list.

I was able to id the "Minxies" as "My Mini Mixies" and I think I'm gonna add "Smooshy Mushy" "Baby Secret" "Pikmi Pops" "Hair doos" "Pomsies" and "Fingerlings" to "currently in store but may be forgotten"

Splashlings suddenly came and went here in the UK, just long enough for my kid to move on to another fad. It's a shame as the seashell blind bags were seriously cute to open up!

Splashlings popped up here in Australia as well! Although I didn't seem them for very long. Also added.

Tyco Quints

Although Tyco quints may be forgotten, they were released in the 90's. I'm asking about 2010's forgotten toys but thank you regardless.

Ever After High/Monster High

Barbie’s friends Raquelle, Ryan, and Midge (New Barbie Dreamhouse Adventure don’t have those three in it)

You might want to add that to the original post, because I also thought of some older ones until I saw this comment ;)

Shibajuku dolls are still on sale here.

If not for the show I would say Miraculous - except they have snuck back a little of late. The toys completely vanished from stores here 18 months ago...

Lalaloopsies are plentiful at carboot sales here (or they were last summer).

But interestingly so were Shopkins and the newer LPS. I tend to take flooding a carboot sale as being a sign of the decline of a toyline, but I think Shopkins at least are still going strong in stores?

I think the thing is a lot of toys are faddish now, rather than inspiring long term commitment. I imagine a lot of the 'blind' toys like LOL Surprise will also vanish into the mist once the fad is over...even though right now they're thriving.

Shopkins have been around for a while now though, right? Can't remember off-hand when they were first released... but yeah, they've probably been around long enough for some kids to have lost interest in them. That could explain why they're all over carboot sales. I dunno, kids seem to move on to new things quickly these days, from what I've heard. I agree, there's a lot of "fad" toys nowadays, not a lot of long-lasting lines like you used to get.

And yeah, Miraculous really did vanish quickly here in the UK. It's a shame, those dolls were cute.

Ever After High seems to have vanished. They stopped making the dolls and the upcoming movie got cancelled I think? I'm sure they're still around in shops but they might have stopped making any new ones

Yeah, at least in Australia Shopkins are still going strong and I can somewhat agree with that, but I think there'd a niche market for LOL dolls once they stopped being produced, probably not as big as the MLP or MH community.

Ever After High seems to have vanished. They stopped making the dolls and the upcoming movie got cancelled I think? I'm sure they're still around in shops but they might have stopped making any new ones

They haven't been seen in shops for a few years, they started after Monster High began and ended before Monster High finished.

I really want pinkie cooper back, I thought those were so cute...

I didn't recall seeing them in Australia but I do see their appeal. Added to the list.

Ever After High/Monster High

While EAH and MH have ended, they certainly can't be considered forgotten, there's still quite a lot of people collecting them.

Tyco Quints

Although Tyco quints may be forgotten, they were released in the 90's. I'm asking about 2010's forgotten toys but thank you regardless.

You might want to add that to the original post, because I also thought of some older ones until I saw this comment ;)

Shibajuku dolls are still on sale here.

If not for the show I would say Miraculous - except they have snuck back a little of late. The toys completely vanished from stores here 18 months ago...

I think Miraculous still qualifies but I do feel that in the US the toys were on the market when the show was relatively unknown and so the toys didn't sell. Now that the show is airing on Disney and is on US Netflix I think the toys would be more popular. I know I'd buy some. :)

I think the biggest problem with Twozies was the "treasure hunt" aspect of trying to find the matching pairs.

While they were released in 2007 and (I think) didn't last until the 2010s, I think Hi Glamm is a doll line that has its place on your list. I personally think they were fun dolls, but I can see why the long legs didn't appeal to everyone.

Wow, didn't realise Monster High has officially ended?! Too bad... but that said, it has lost its original charm a long time ago already... I still have a big collection of them and still love them, but the newer series were just no longer appealing to me, as I used to love their edginess.

I think MH will be back in some shape or form. Sometime in the future when goth becomes chic again.

Mattel is still using MH in their brand catalogue, on their websites, promo material for the company and so on.

They are here too.

I would actually count EAH as forgotten, at least in a UK perspective. Not MH, but EAH. From a time when the shelves were full of them (here Entertainer stocked them even when they wouldn't stock MH, and then so did TRU, Smyths in abundance...) they are now completely gone. Series is gone. And has been for some time now. They also don't show up at carboot sales that much. I see MH and EqG dolls often, but rarely EAH.

And on top of all of that...the dolls that Smyths had even when the line was ongoing were often surplus end of line unwanted stock from other European countries. Principally Spain  and Scandinavia. So it was becoming unwanted and forgotten in some places even while it was still out.

...I don't even know if the show is still on Netflix but the concept has even been swallowed up now by the very strangely similar sounding series about the descendents of fairy story characters, name I forget...

So yeah. For me, EAH fits forgotten.

MH, not so much. It's been dead in the UK for a few years now but occasionally they still appear out of the woodwork in Smyths or Home Bargains.

Just because a few people still collect something doesn't necessarily mean it isn't forgotten as a toyline. At least in my opinion.

Something a bit different, might not count, but remember the MLP POPs or whatever? Like the mix and match kits? I always forget those were a thing when thinking about G4. I remember seeing a lot of hype about it on the official Facebook page, but I don't think anyone actually picked them up. Other lines had their fanbase, like FiM Collection and Funkos, even GoH, but POPs? Nope.

Something I think that could be forgotten over time are those Moj Moj toys. A lot of these "blob" and surprise toys are really taking over, pick one or two from the dozens listed on Amazon and I don't think people will remember them in a couple years. "Off the Hook", a bunch of clothes hanger-themed dolls (yes) came out this year I think, I don't think those will go anywhere. I haven't seen anyone talk about them.

I like Off the Hook, I'll be very surprised if they're remembered though. They're already starting to go on sale over here. They're cute but definitely seem like a "one line wonder" to me.

I miss Pinkie Cooper so, so much. I knew it wouldn't last long but I still miss that line. I loved them.

And yeah the POPs, they did fade into obscurity very quickly!! Those were odd. I don't think it helped that they had such a similar name to the Funko POP series either, that was pretty confusing.

I agree w/ EAH being forgotten in the UK - they never really took off over here. They were around but they were never anywhere near as plentiful as MH and they disappeared pretty quickly. Wouldn't call them forgotten in general sense, but they definitely are over here.

And oh! Hi-Glamm! Those are weird little dolls. I agree w/ them getting a spot on the list, never seen many posts about them but they do have a certain charm...

edit: Oh, I just remembered - what about Chicks With Wigs? They seem pretty obscure, doesn't look like we're getting them over here, either. Pity since they're v. cute.

Lost Kitties faded into obscurity pretty quickly, too.

They would look super cute on display especially now that we are getting close to Easter, and I can see so many customising options within them (like rerooting or body flocking). Too bad they are not available around here...

I still mourn the loss of Mini Mixie Q's, they were fun. Although my inner grammar freak never understood why they had an apostrophe in their name.

Looking through my drawer of tiny toys the other day, I found some Charm U charms. I'd certainly forgotten them, took me ages to remember what they were called.

I never hear anything about Regal Academy dolls these days, though it could just be that they're confining themselves to their native Italy.

I guess it's just the midlands ;) Albeit it mostly shows up for some reason in commercial breaks for Miraculous on Disney.

On another note, I only ever saw the pony CMC commercial once. So I guess commercials don't reflect anything more than how much the company paid a particular channel to advertise a product...

I've never heard of these, but I really like some of them, and would like to have one or two :)

This reminded me of Club Hello Kitty dolls - they were never available here, I bought mine in Italy 3 years ago (they seem to have been clearing them out, as different toy shops all had discounts on their prices), and then some from Spahish Amazon. IIRC I also saw one in a shop in France once 2 years ago, but I may remember incorrectly/mix things up. They were made by the Spanish company Famosa. I'm not sure where else they were sold, and/or if they are still being made.

Half off-topic, but what dou you mean by "Wowee versions"? Did they change the company after awhile, or what happened? I became aware of the line via TheToyBoxPhilosopher, and, probably because of the timing of her review, I thought all dolls were Wowee.

I am also sad to see them gone (well, they never even appeared here, but gone in general) - even though I didn't really like any of the dolls as is, I do have some that I plan to customise (make more monochrome) because I love their skin tone and adore their faces.

What about Animal Jam? My daughter got me hooked on hunting for them. We completed I think 2 of the series before she got bored and moved on. Haven't seen them at all in stores lately.

That's a good question, I only recall seeing them once or twice. What about others opinions?

Last time I saw 'em was the UK McDonald's promo from a while back (man that was a good promo! Didn't last long enough, tho), hadn't seen them for a while before then. I'd say they probably qualify.

I looked at the current list and I'm sorry but just because a line has ended does not mean it became "forgotten". Ever After High still has a fandom, Cupcake dolls are still going on in several countries... I just don't get some of the reasoning here.

Hmm, I can see your point, although do you know of a better fitting word? Unpopular? Distant?

Ended or gone.
In case of Cupcake dolls I wouldn't even consider them unpopular. They are just not a must-have or it-toy anymore because the gimmick is no longer new.
They are no longer talked about, I guess.

But EAH collectors are still active and trying to complete, making customs and so on.

To be honest, I'm not sure what the idea behind this list actually is? ^^; Most toy lines fall into obscurity when they're no longer being made (of course there are exceptions), cause... well there's only so much you can say about a toy line that ended years ago, you know? Doesn't necessarily mean they've been *forgotten*. Like... I still love Pinkie Cooper and all, but I don't post about it because what more is there to say that wasn't said at the time, I guess.

Ah, my idea behind this list is to help for future identifying purposes, like ghost of the doll and just keep track of toylines so a toy history thing can be established.

Breyer Wind Dancers. They're not completely gone yet but the brushables have all been discontinued and the only Wind Dancers product left is the blind bags. It's going to be odd not seeing them in the collector's catalog anymore. They've been around since 2005 .

EDIT: Apparently according to Identify Your Breyer the blind bags have been retired since 2018 but they're still up for purchase on Breyer's website. I'm guessing those are going to disappear soon as well.

I have the same question about Snapstars - did they really end? They never showed up in my country, and the first time I've ever seen them was about a week ago when I was on a trip abroad to the Czech Republic. I would have thought they are fairly new and can't be over just yet - unless this was confirmed by the company?

I thought the general idea of this thread was to record the names of more obscure toy-lines for future reference, to help people identify toys from the '00s, '10s and '20s. A bit like a modern version of Ghost of the Doll.

With that in mind, Freezestime, have you thought of maybe writing a little description of each toy-line explaining what it is, which company made it, and how to recognise it? That's the sort of thing I'd really find helpful when I'm trying to ID random charity shop finds.
Title: Re: Ended Toy lines?

that's a great idea, Shaz! :D Especially since a lot of toylines have confusingly similar names.

Is it really over after that? That would be a crying shame.

Huh, they might've halted everything due to the corona virus? But Yeah, I can't find anything to suggest it's been cancelled but then there's nothing to suggest it's still going.

Due to this predicament, I'm going to create a new category called "Status unknown"

What about Glimmies? They're sort-of dolls - they're humanoid/animal fairies. I mostly only heard of them because there was an ENTIRE endcap at Toys R Us when I went to their closing sale, virtually untouched. It looks like the line was more successful in Europe, and had a second wave? I don't know if it's still going on, but I find them charming. Here's a comparison with a, uh, nakie friend, sorry for the dolly nudity. ;) (It's Molly from the MLP line!)

Each one is based on an animal and they light up! Their little houses are so cute too, they just didn't seem to fit any easy 'niche'.

Ooh, Glimmies are cute, I remember finding them in Tesco back in 2017. They were distributed in the UK by Flair, but I think they were made by an Italian company (Giochi Preziosi, I think).
They have their own Wiki! https://glimmies.fandom.com/wiki/Glimmies
At some point I ended up with a mini Glimmies colouring page, I think it came with one of those magazines that combines things from different toy-lines.

There were actually 4 different series in Europe. The first one, the Rainbow Friends, Aquaria, and Polaris. I was really hoping the later ones would get released in the US but unfortunately they seemed to be a victim of the death of TRU. I wonder how many other European only things would have made it here if TRU hadn't fallen. Even if they are taking small steps to come back they are a shadow of what they were. As it is to import them would be $20-$30 and as cute as they are I can't bring myself to spend that much on a $5 toy.

Hi! Sorry if these are older than you’re looking for, but there’re here if you need them :) I will keep digging to see what else I can find! Also added a short description of what the toys were, where possible :)

Some very obscure and short lived 2000s lines

Gotta dance girls - Tiger electronics - 2002
Dancing dolls which were controlled with a remote. Did not last long and only four different ones were made.

Keepsies - 2001 - Vivid imaginations
Very small line, only 3 different ones made it to production. Had batteries, A (Chloe) dog, (Millie) rabbit and (Sophie) cat were made. Came with a smaller item called a ‘thingy’. Which was/could be locked inside the compartment of the front. Erm... yeah...

Tiny secrets - FEVA? - 2005
Modern keypers with doll like heads. 3 produced

Totally glam stamps - 2008? - Moose?
Plastic accessories with stamps and ink, I also have a playset with various (very messy) plastic stamps in the shapes of shoes and bags, like a boutique.

Nano eggs - Tomy - 2000s
Eggs with a scene inside, made small movements and sounds

Magic Krysalix - Zaph Creation - 2010s
Caterpillar like creatures with hair that came with their own chrysalis shaped playsets that transformed into different things. (Potentially still available through wholesale websites but not on shelves). Likely extra stock.

Secret Central - Hasbro - 2003
Small dolls, based around school, they had a movie on dvd.

Microdancers - Tomy - 2003
All plastic dolls which responded to music and were designed after celebrities

My favourite babysitters - MGA - 2006
One larger (Barbies ish size?) babysitter doll and a smaller, toddler doll, don’t know how many different ones were made

Fairees - MGA - 2004
Small toddler dolls dressed as fairies, each with a different colour (hair and outfit match).

Trolls - Hasbro - 2004
Troll fashion dolls, interestingly some came with g3 combs or g1 original combs!

Doggie Daycare - Mattel - 2004
Series of playsets of babysitting dogs. They had a dvd with two short episodes on which was given away in various ways. Magnets allowed babies to hold onto sets and dogs. They were recalled in 2007 because the magnets could come out, mine never did, but there were large piles of exposed metal filings all over them

More well known

Hi! Glad I could help :D

Some more - the ones that were from the 90s were being offered for sale until 2000, therefore it’s likely there was a lot of excess stock and they may have been available in the early 2000s, so I’ve included them here.

Pics of the two I couldn’t find on google at all:

Ahhhh I love my Lottie dolls, good to hear they aren't completely gone yet.  They used to take up a whole wall at Chapters Indigo but then... disappeared  :(

:0!! This is exactly what I'm looking for!! Thank you!

The 2004 Trolls were actually spelled Trollz. With a "z" because Xtreme Kool Letterz were a thing in the early 2000s.

Sorry about that! I think my autocorrect eyerollz just as hard as we do with the 2000z toyz namez! I wonder why it became such a popular thing to do? It seems every other toy line had to have some funny spelling - Bratz being the main culprit! No ex, s or c was spared by MGA

I also remembered:

Sassy Stables - 2002 - Funrise
Interactive horses that can blink and move their eyes. 4 were produced - Morgan, Roxy, Shimmer and Sienna. Accessory packs were also sold under the name of ‘sassy gear’.

All the best,
Jas :D

I remember Sassy Stables!! I haven't heard that name in so long I forgot they even existed!! They were like... Diva Starz for horses. XD

Also, something from my childhood that I loved: The Fisher-Price Loving Family Friendship Stable horses, from around 2002 I believe. I know Loving Family isn't necessarily obscure, but I love this specific line of ponies (Loving Families had other playsets with horses too, but they look much different). The main playset was a stable, which came with a human girl and one horse. You would put the horse and girl in a certain spot and they would talk to each other. Other horses were released and they could interact with the stable as well. They all came with accessories and a little book.

They're too cute! I'd love to collect them again one day if I had room!

(Looking at the box, maybe it isn't Loving Families? It just says "Friendship Ponies", but I don't remember, and listings always mention they're Loving Families...)

Mlp Sunsparkle, I am having such a great time reading about all these 2000s toys! It is like walking down Memory Lane! I had totally forgotten about Pets To Go but I remember now that I had a couple of playsets with them around 2001 (I think I got one for my birthday that year). Not sure if I still have them. Time to rummage in the attic, maybe?

Here's a few I remember:
Miss Party Surprise - Made by Toybiz between 1999 and 2002. Small plastic dolls with hair and poseable limbs. I remember getting a Dance Party Friends pack for my birthday, there was a little ballerina doll with poseable feet! There was also the Molly Make-Up Party Doll that came with this sort of giant skirt that opened up into a playset.

Smunchies - These were late 90s but might have gone into the early 00s. Plush animals attached to scrunchies. They were made by Lansay, a French company.

Lotta Littles - I don't know who made these. They came in packs of teeny-tiny animals, there were cats, dogs, rabbits, horses etc. They often turn up in Puppy in my Pocket bundles on eBay though they're not actually related to the In My Pocket line. I remember buying a load of them in 2003.
Spoiler

Fairykins - Little tiny dolls made by Lanard, mid-2000s, sold with various accessories. There were mermaids with little fabric tails!

Magiki - 2010s, might still be going. Various blind bags made by De Agostini. They're usually little flocked figures, but sometimes they're just hard plastic. I've acquired a pink bunny, some mermaids and a few fantasy ponies (pegasus, unicorn) over the years.

Animagic Rescue Hospital - Vivid Imaginations (I think), around 2014 - Little animals sold in blind bags. They have 'injuries' which you can cure by putting them under cold (I think) water. I think they're a new incarnation of the 90s Animal Hospital/Puppy in my Pocket line.

I can only put the knowledge down to being a g3 nut and 2000s baby, I go looking for g3 stuff and ads and come across a lot of old toy lines in the process. I’ve also found a bunch of 2000s stuff either online or in person which has prompted an ID spree  :P I was born in 2001 so a lot of the early 2000s toys have been found by my endless g3 searching, but a lot of the mid to late ones are some that I remember from when I was tiny! Browsing the 2000s Argos catalogues has been so much fun! And I hope the full later 2000s ones are scanned in one day! Wish I’d kept them! I remember staring endlessly at so many of the pages and it’s lovely to see them again!

I love this thread, thank you!

Here’s some more that I unearthed:

Has anyone mentioned Diva Starz yet? Made by Mattel back in 2000 and ended in 2004. They were interactive  they talked to you/each other and react to their clothing. I never really understood the appeal as you couldn't really play with them though I just found out (when trying to find the name) that they did make regular dolls of them.

edit: Ooh, ooh, Struts! Horses with high heels, 'nuff said lol. Made by Playmates around 2008.

If you have Facebook, I suggest following the Ghost of the Doll Toy ID page, I have been seeing loads of lovely late 90s/early 00s toy-lines that I remember!
Two recent (re)discoveries were Puppy Dog Tails by M. I. G. (little plastic dogs with brushable tails and fuzzy ears, available between 1998-2001); and Chad Valley Charlie & Cate dolls (early 00s, they were £1 shop Barbie knock-offs but had some really cute outfits and accessories. I had a ballerina Cate!).
Also, I don't know if this is a bit too obscure, but back in the early to mid 00s, the RSPCA in conjunction with Golden Bear Toys released an absolutely adorable line of plush animals called Perfect Pets :lovey:. There were also some play-sets with plastic versions of the same characters. I remember sending off to the RSPCA kids' magazine Animal Action and getting a plush Ziggy the cat! I wonder if they were only available in the UK though? Not sure if you could get them in shops or only via the magazine. There are lots of pictures of them online anyway.

The Twisty Petz are made by Spinmaster and are copying are Bizu, which was also made by Spinmaster. Which is also the same company that made Liv. They actually have made a lot of things but frequently get forgotten about when talking about big toy companies.

I think a lot of newer toy lines are not collector friendly. Any sort of squishy plastic thing (e.g. Squinkies) decays quite rapidly. Ooshies too, I think will not hold up, any sort of squish filled thing (like I had an orbeez dog apple. I gave it to my niece and nephew. I do not know where or what it is now but I suspect it will be gross) or those fash 'ems I think they were called? Num noms too, they will split easily. And the actual jelly/foamy squish toys, they will not last. I don't mean the plush ones, the ones that are like a shaped food or whatever and you squish it in your hand and it slow rises.

I thought about collecting the 'girl' ooshies - care bears and disney and what not but decided against it because I think they will degrade very easily.

While those water and bead filled things will probably not hold up to time simply because water will evaporate, the other things you mentioned might or might not last depending on how they are handled or cared for. There's been vintage toys that have been made out of similar materials like Monster in My Pocket and Madballs. Good condition ones can be found but that's because they had the right kind of storage conditions that would not lead to decay.

@pixiemouse Just tried to message you via your website but not sure it worked. I ended up clicking the submit button like a loon, so if you have multiple messages from me I'm sorry!

I just wanted to say that I had the Pound Puppies Pet Paradise playset when I was little, and I still have one of the puppies, so I can definitely confirm that it came with a cream-coloured puppy with white paws and ears. I also remember a ginger cat with white paws (I mostly remember it because I lost it in the car and my mum had to dismantle the seats to try to find it!). I can't remember the other figures, but hopefully that helps! I can send a photo of the puppy if you like :)

Sorry it’s been so long, Hope it’s okay to add some more!
